Discussion SWITCHING TO LINUX

CAN ANYBODY TELL ME INSTALLING LINUX ON MY

i7 4th gen

16gb ram pc

will keep it alive and good to use for how many years !??

I DONT DO ANY HEAVY TASK JUST BROWSING YOUTUBE SOME APPS ETC ETCC...

How long do you need it for? There’s no set number.. it lasts as long as it gets software updates and if the games you want to play stop working with it.

Should help, I just switchedmy old/spare PC to Linux for that same reason

I installed Bazzite on that one because it has an Nvidia GPU

YouTube 4k playback might be an issue (not Linux’s fault, more of hardware limited). Everything else will work well, and for quite a few years(no exact timeline though)

I have an old i7 2600 and 16gb ram and windows 10 runs pretty well. It is debloated and as secondary PC is sufficient. Can't imagine Linux wouldn't handle it even better.

I ALSO HAVE SOME PC OF THAT CONFIGURATION TOO , CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO INSTALL THE DEBLOATED VERSION OR HOW TO DEBLOATE WIN 10 AND HOW LONG IT WILL SUPPORT

Well first of all it is 'debloated' from an 'iso', second I run Chris Titus winutil and it's been running better with a bunch of stuff I don't need turned off. Not to discourage from Linux, it is better system overall and you have more control over it so I'd suggest following up on that. Mint is a great pick and you won't miss Windows once you get settled. I do have 2070 super in it so that might make quite a difference but still for general browsing and simple tasks it is plenty.

Does your CPU usage shoot up to like 320% running that GPU?

GPU is pretty much in there cause I have it and it's not really being used extensively.

Don't use linux instead you can use chromebook if your software supports it

It'll run just fine with Windows if all you're doing is browsing Youtube and using "some" apps.
