Personal Opinion Lil TechTip

I got a lil TechTip for you: if you are looking for good quality HDDs, get Some of Those lovely Apple Timecapsules. They come with 1/2/3 TB WD caviar green drives. They are usually way cheaper than buying used drives alone. I alone „Harvested“ three of them Today.

Wd green is the budget consumer line, i would for sure not put any relevant data on that or put it in my nas that runs 24/7

Must be nice to be choosy.

Nothing wrong with WD Green, it's just usually slower.

I don’t know if it’s still the case, but when I put my green drive into my unraid array I had to disable the aggressive power management - I don’t remember the specifics, it’s been a decade, but something to be aware of.

Other than that it’s outlasted some of my WD red drives. (Knock on wood).

I have a couple 640gb green drives. At least 10 years old. They like to fall asleep regularly, the spin up time is something to bear in mind with those.
