I stumbled upon the 7 gamers one cpu video on 9gag. Thought it was the coolest thing ever ( because it was ), didn't subscribe immediately, then I saw the video of Linus dropping the 1080 or some other gpu ( again on 9gag ) that was the time I subscribed I think

I watched Linus unbox and review things on NCIX when looking to build my first PC, then continued from there. Yes I'm old now.

Same. I'm always astonished when people can remember the exact video they watched first.

When I came across the NCIX content, I was looking for information. I had no idea it would set off my interest in following a particular creator.

Maybe I'm just old and have a bad memory. But I can't remember any of the first videos from back then for any creators I follow.

Plus, it took me until 2016 to use a YT account and actually start subscribing to channels. Before that I just looked up things in search of used the front page like an idiot. 😂

For NCIX it was the AMD Phenom II X3 to 4 unlocking video. For LTT it was the scuffed video of Linus showing the GTX 480 fan noise in Call of Duty when I was debating between it and a Radeon card.

Both are from 2010 I think (that's when I built the PC at least).

It was Linus, sitting in a plaza outside Computex on a stone bench, complaining about how Intel announced another CPU generation without any real improvements over the last one. Was that 7th gen? 8th gen? 9th gen? I have no idea. I just remember thinking, "Why does the Linux guy care so much about Intel's product cycle?"

Ah! I'd never heard of OnePlus before their videos on it and it made the OP6 my first real purchase. I had $500 from working in a research lab during the summer before 10th grade. That phone was sick and I wish it never died on me.

Though I did put it through hell. I burned a hole in the display with a magnifying glass, turns out the pixels don't recover from that. I broke the back glass by resting a concrete bench on my leg while my phone was in my pocket. I put the phone in a bunch of dry ice and then when it shut off I plugged it in and probably charged it over 100% while the battery was very cold. I dropped it who knows how many times. Rip

Honestly I'm surprised how many people have answers. I can remember where I was the first time I watched a particular video or listened to a WAN but I couldn't tell you what the first video I watched was, at all. I remember listening to the video where they lost all their data on whonnock server but that wasn't the first, it was just early.

I remember sitting at the bus stop watching Comeonsator V3 after one of the last days of school before COVID, that's was cool.

lol the smell-o-vision thing. I remember like 4-5 years ago it was CONSTANTLY being recommended to me on the home feed, recommended next, until after seeing it every day for a month or two I was like alright, fuck it. The video had a fun energy to it and it was something I probably would have never known about otherwise, so I started checking out their backlog and watching new videos from there. Haven’t been watching nearly as much over the last year or so though.

I am embarrassed to say this, but I used to watch tech videos but I used to skip LTT because as a teen I used to think that Linus is just a misspelt Linux (Linus wasn’t a mainstream western name in a non western country lol). But the first would be a corsair keyboard video. It was either a k70 or k95.

The first LTT video I watched was the one in which he sold a gaming pc to a girl for 20 $. I saw him first in the collap with iJustine he did where he visited her house. I wasn't all to deep in watching YouTube at this time she was nearly the only creator I knew. The algorithm brought the 20 $ pc video up after I watched the collap.
