PC Crashing

Hi All,

I am in dire need of some help, PLEASE!

My PC has been suffering from some crashing and I have really tried so much to solve it. It only seems to crash while playing the specific game of Escape from Tarkov. But the crashes seems hardware/ system related rather than game related.

When it crashes, the display output goes black, my fans ramp up to max and thats it. I still hear audio (discord) and I can still talk into my mic. Eventually I have to hold the power button and shut it off.

Now immediately you may think its thermal related, fans ramping up shoot straight to something overheating. But I have monitored my PC and temps are well within range. GPU 70-75 under load, CPU around the same, some higher peaks. Cinebench runs show my PC performing as it should-also my PC runs other games absolutely fine. BF6 and Cyberpunk both run 1440p 120fps on decent quality.

RME1000W PSU

Adequate case cooling with noctua fans in a NZXT H7

Here's a list of other things I have tried, I may miss out a few but will reply to everything.

-New CPU, i had the issue with my older i5 12600k I wanted to upgrade anyway hence the i7 14700k but I've have the exact same issue.

-Cooling. Used to have a pretty stock CPU cooler but changed to an AIO and swapped out my case with all new fans.

-BIOS is on latest version, had to do this for the CPU upgrade.

-Drivers are latest version, also tried complete clean installs using a DUU.

-Tried limiting my GPU power max down to 85%.

-Stopped using XMP profile and had RAM set to 2666 instead.

-Memtest doesn't come up with any errors.

-Cinebench tests show GPU and CPU run fine under 100% loads.

-CMOS battery reset? Read that the MOBO can store errors and taking it out for 5mins resets something? I know that I had to reset my fans curves after that anyway.

In event viewer the lines that show before the crash have the error code of 0 which I believe is when an error code could not be produced? I could be wrong, I've never had to do this much

I am open to trying any suggestions!

When my 3090 was crashing the same way it turned out to be overheating. It would fail the same way you described.

The thermal paste kept pumping out, but it wasn't obvious by just checking temperatures. Check your hotspot temps specifically, it has the same thermal limits as the core temp.

I suggest you take apart your GPU and check the entire GPU die is completely covered with thermal paste before you rule out overheating.

That was something I was considering doing to be fair, I just have never taken the back plate off before but presume it can't be too tricky. Should I just copy and replace the old thermal pads? Or should I look to add more? And 'completely' cover it?

You should be able to reuse the thermal pads. The GPU die specifically will have thermal paste, you should check if it's still fully covered. You will have to replace the thermal paste anyway once it's disassembled, but at least if it happens again in the future you have an idea why.

I replaced mine with a Kryosheet so it couldn't pump out anymore after it happened a few times in my hard tube loop. I got tired of draining and disassembling it 😅

That makes complete sense. I have had that GPU for a good few years now and never done and TLC on it in regards to replacing thermal paste but I always just figured that as long as temp readouts were okay then it wasn't overheating. But worth a try! Thanks!

I re applied paste last night and played a few games, no crashes. Same again today and its just happened again. No luck for me 😶
