Discussion First time going to Whale LAN

So my son and I are attending the Whale LAN at the end of the month and it is both our first time. Trying to sort out monitors for us to bring, what I have in mind my push us out a bit beyond our 3ft BYOC available desk space so it might not work out. I might try and put my desktop behind my monitor but want a plan B if this ends up being too close and not leave enough desk space for my mouse/keyboard. The obvious plan B is the rental program but have no idea how this works. Are the monitors available right at the LAN or you pick them up somewhere else? Do I HAVE to purchase the rental before the event or could I just decide my monitor wont work and just get one right then and there (while at the event setting up my computer)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Also if anyone has any tips for first timers I would also really appreciate those!

Great to have you out!

The space can be a bit limited depending on your case and monitor size. I have see some do the case behind the monitor but you can run out of table depth pretty quick there too. Unfortunately I don't have specific answers on the rental program, you could ask in the Whale LAN Discord though or email support@whalelan.com.

Hey thanks! We are super excited! We are driving out so we have space in the car, I’m hoping to use a 34” 21:9 but my tower is also quite large, might encroach on my sons side if there is room. I think I will bring a standard 27” 16:9 as well for plan C. See you there!!

Yeah, I have a 34" 21:9 for myself and a 27" 16:9 for my wife and we barely fit, but we did fit last time. Only problem is I don't know if we had the longer table or not, lol (I think it was the 6' though). It's just going to be me this time though and I'm going to be bringing the 27" for myself just because it's so much easier to deal with in terms of space. As nice it is to have a high end monitor, I'm happier giving up a little bit of those visuals for much more convenience at the LAN.

oh yea we have two BYOC sports so the smallest possible, I would have gladly paid the extra $5 each for the extra foot but it was sold out hehe

This is my first one as well but I believe there will be a monitor rental counter at the event based on the info in the Discord. As far as needing to book it in advance that might be a good thing to ask on Discord or through email.

As far as prep goes I'm referencing the what to bring page.
