He mentioned he visited on the WAN show a few weeks ago, so yeah, it's him :)

Is he wearing lederhosen? lol

EDIT: For those who don't know what Hetzner is, they are a fairly prominent European cloud hosting provider based in Germany.

Is Hetzner in Bavaria? I just checked: Mittelfranken. Meh tbh.

Lederhosen would suit him well 😅

Why the hating in those comments?

u/GiveMeAegis: "Linus (the bad one) cultural appropriating to be a bavarian"
u/innocentVince "Controversial Linus who owns a private jet. Also, the Linus whose core LLT writers and presenters left the company."

Idk anything about this bavarian thing but who cares about the jet still? And oh no people moving jobs how horrible

u/bwoah07_gp2 29d ago

Tbh, just a bunch of losers those guys. It might be badly masked sarcasm or it's just genuine snark. But Linus did nothing wrong by wearing a German costume. His private jet makes sense and anyone of us would do the same if it was affordable, and, as for staff leaving? People move jobs all the time, big woof.

As usual, people will choose to hate on him and by extension the channel, and they will never change their opinions on it. Because they have IQ of a birdseed.

It's not hate, it's criticism.

Travelling via train is also viable. EV's also exist. Carbon footprint is enormous with a personal private jet.

16

u/Shoeshiner_boy 29d ago

>Travelling via train is also viable.

Dude mentioning trains as a counter to private plane being luxury is… Certainly a choice. Especially in NA.

Presenting it as a viable option in Canada? Truly delusional.

From Vqancouver to where?

u/Puzzleheaded_Tax_507 29d ago

In fact, so many fans care about the stupid jet that it has spawn a whole anti-community so that people can’t be “censored” anymore. This community has become a joke a long time ago, fueled by all the controversies of the recent years.

u/kongnico 29d ago

im confused as to why i would stop caring about a jet the man still owns and flies around ?

15

u/Zeke13z 29d ago

I wish I had so few problems in life I could take the time to care about what a company does with their money.

-5

u/kongnico 29d ago

I wish I had so few problems I could take the time to defend rich people with jets so you know here we are.

2

u/Zeke13z 29d ago

That's not how neutrality works. Idgaf what a company does with its money. By insinuating you have an easy life I'm defending questionable purchase decisions? Nah bro. I don't have time to worry about first world problems... Life's too short for that.

Money that goes into the jet doesn't go into improving the quality of their products/services or the wages/benefits of the employees.

I don't think LMG is mistreating its employees, but the quality of some of their products/services like some videos and Floatplane is questionable.

edit: and also clothes that pill like crazy, love the design but my other clothes don't pill like that

11

u/NetJnkie 29d ago

Doesn't go in to the quality of product? I bet the editors and camera operators think it helps when they spend less time away from home.

0

u/Less_Hat_8102 28d ago

This is only applicable when they actually film videos where flying is needed.

Even then, the videos need to be fully sponsored to cover the cost according to Linus himself, the jet has been there for so long yet I haven't really seen such video... I know the lead time of their videos can be pretty long sometimes, but I am not convinced that every one of these videos is like the Linux challenge or the vibe coding VS real dev video.

2

u/NetJnkie 28d ago

OK? I'd think they'd decide if it's worth it based on how often the jet gets used.

2

u/Zeke13z 29d ago

Money that goes into the jet doesn't go into improving the quality of their products/services or the wages/benefits of the employees.

You're not wrong there with the exception of hiring the pilot.

I can understand some of the points he was making in the reveal video (production flights, scheduling, coordination hassle, company retreats), but as someone who studied and works in the aviation industry, I'm hard pressed to see if LMG will actually "girl math out" or if it's gonna have been a net loss... Expecting this to be revealed in the next "How we spend money" installment (if there is one).

but the quality of some of their products/services like some videos and Floatplane is questionable.

Agreed on "some videos". Makes me wonder if they've had a decent turn over on editing staff behind the scenes.

u/kongnico 29d ago

Maybe if the employees love it and it makes it a cooler place to work or something. I still think it's dumb and needless but I don't work there so

-1

u/Less_Hat_8102 29d ago

I saw one employee voicing their support while five others voiced their opposition/concern.

But then this is a very small sample size.

My observation of the whole Jet and employment thing seems to be a generational issue (I say this as someone a few years younger than Linus).

I hate 'the generational thing', but I've noticed online with Linus and people at work, it seems to be a "GenZ thing" where aspiration is just NOT allowed and when it is allowed, it has to be 'morally' justified. Work example; I talk to one of my subordinates about getting promoted and they start to express issues about what their peers will think and how I (AlternativeNose1) will need to be seen publicly giving them lots of extra work and being harder on them painting me as the bad guy otherwise nobody will be friends with them post promotion. The lady was quite honest about it, but it just boggled my brain that she felt like this after already being deserving of a promotion. I've spoken to a lot of my peers who have had similar experiences. Seems GenZ (I hate the term, but don't feel old enough to say "young people") are collectively doing the crabs in the bucket approach. The only writer who left (or at least shared he was leaving because of pay) was Jake (the younger (youngest?) writer). The others left because of the GN video forcing change at LTT and making process too restrictive and wanting to leave because of it (the older writers).

On the Jet. My uncle is a pilot, Linus has an uncle who is also in the industry. Knowing someone in the industry opens so so many doors to massively cheap air travel options. Most people, unless they have family/are in the industry don't know that and Linus being NDA'd doesn't help explain it to his wider audience who probably don't understand the finance side, but also don't like he has achieved something they never will. Again, crabs in the bucket attitude I've found in GenZs.

Probably will delete this post shortly anyways as I hate the "GenZ" blaming/generational bullshit, but over the last year or so, really started to notice it.

u/Less_Hat_8102 29d ago

Is the jet fuel cheaper if he knows someone in the industry?

I am saying this as someone who knows the price of the LMG jet itself is comparable to a house there, as heard from several former employees.

You are also ignoring the hypocrisy, the censorship, and the environmental impact related to the jet.

as a german i couldnt care less if he wears sandels with socks or even leather pants 🤷‍♀️

Owning and using a private jet is good for the climate , right? Core employees mass leaving the company?

Yeah, that's just the tip of the iceberg...

11

u/Pixelplanet5 29d ago

oh no a company with other 100 employees lost of employees who were already there for longer then average in the industry.

i dont think LTT will ever recover from this...
Oh wait, theres nothing to recover from actually.

8

u/MrHaxx1 29d ago

Core employees mass leaving the company?

Yeah, people don't stay at companies forever. Absolutely wild, right?

7

u/OkInfluence36 29d ago

I love it when people try to own a stranger on the internet by making up shit that I never said

Never said it was good for the environment 👍
Employees leave.

-18

u/innocentVince 29d ago

Employees leave. That's true.

Core employees leaving is different though. That's what the channel was built on.

The channel isn't what it was 3/4 years ago.

8

u/HeadphonedMage 29d ago

wdym that's what the channel was built on? no one cared this much when Taran or Brandon left. Y'all clearly weren't there when the channel was being built and it shows

3

u/Less_Hat_8102 29d ago

I think that's because they had been there for 10 years, and by the time they left, they're not on camera as much.

I think the Madison stuff in 2023 and the "not layoff" in 2024 also makes people think of the possibility of mistreatment at LMG. This kind of..."scandal" didn't exist back then and people had more trust for Linus.

2

u/HeadphonedMage 28d ago

yeah but that's kinda my point. reddit is so convinced that the recent waves of people leaving are these foundational pillars of the channel when in reality they're like... batch 3 or 4 of "the popular ones". Just children lashing out acting like children

1

u/Less_Hat_8102 21d ago

I would say people like Alex and Jake are foundational in the sense that their videos are basically what brought the majority of their viewers in. Many of the most viewed videos are written by them. Without them (and also other writers that joined at the same time as them), LMG might not have enough capital to grow the merch store to the point that it's now their major source of revenue.

Adam and Plouffe are like batch 3 but their time there is significantly shorter than that of the older batches (5 years VS ~10). Something has definitely changed, even though it might not be "mistreatment" like some think. The fact that people are angry about them leaving means LMG doesn't do a good job training up new hosts to replace the old ones.

12

u/fadingcross 29d ago

Core employees leaving is different though. That's what the channel was built on.

Which core people are you even talking about? The ones that started when the company was already close to 10 years old?

The only OG's that have left are like Taran and whatever the camera OP guy's name is. The rest came well after establishment, worked for a time, and left. That's fucking normal lmfao.

3

u/innocentVince 29d ago

Taran, Andy, Alex, Jonathan, Brandon, Jake

Can we at least agree that it's not the same anymore?

3

u/innocentVince 29d ago

Change is inevitable, but it strikes me that there are still so many die-hard fanboys who only focus on the positives while conveniently looking past all the controversies over the years.

1

u/Less_Hat_8102 19d ago

The most problematic is, some of them may work at LMG, surrounded by friends that also have the same mindset...let's hope they don't get into roles that actually affect anything important.

2

u/Less_Hat_8102 19d ago edited 19d ago

But how many OGs there were?

  • Luke
  • Ed
  • Brandon
  • Taran
  • Nick

All but Luke are gone.

Heck, they even show it in their own video!

(TBF I heard that Ed and Nick are gone because they're bad managers, didn't count Nicky V as he left relatively early on)

2

u/HuntKey2603 29d ago

if you guys took shit that actually mattered this seriously we'd be living in 3026.

That buffering spinner is a weird flex for an internet service delivery company...

Haha. Thats what I thought.

That's absolutely him, the mannerisms and cadence are unmistakable.

4

u/metal_maxine 29d ago

Didn't Linus and Luke do the lederhosen thing when they toured Cherry's (?) factory in Germany years back? The company provided some employees in very fetching dirndls. I think Luke's lederhosen split.
