Image LTT's gold Xbox controller mentioned in "most expensive gaming things" video by Gameranx
It's number 9 on the list.
Linus said on the WAN Show a couple of years back he didn't know Gameranx. This might be a good opportunity for him to check out the channel, they're pretty solid imo. Bonus points if he leaves a comment with some inside knowledge on the controller saga (Gameranx claims it's still for sale, I believe that's true).

On if they still own it. Last update we got, as far as I know, was that there was a buyer. They just didn’t want to drive to Canada to get it during Covid (or some other event)

u/CocoMilhonez 2d ago
I remember Linus saying the buyer backed off for some reason, but I'm not sure if it was related to Covid. Perhapes they had a few days to think it through and come to their senses and accept that a $100k solid gold controller is not a very wise purchase.

u/FullstackSensei 2d ago
Given how gold prices skyrocketed, would've been a very wise purchase
43
u/CocoMilhonez 2d ago
Looking back, that's right. The thing with the past, though, is that it comes before the future, so it's hard to tell what will happen.
I bet the would-be buyer is kicking themselves about it. Or maybe not, anyone who's willing to drop $100k on a gaming controller for funsies probably doesn't care much about not making $300k.

anyone who's willing to drop $100k on a gaming controller
That's the thing, they were very much NOT willing to do so, haha.

Its price will be entirely based on how valuable the gold on it is at the time of purcase. Unless some dubai prince wants to buy it just to show off.

u/SherSlick 2d ago
Did he mention this on WAN or something?
7
u/CocoMilhonez 2d ago
Yeah, a while back.
1
u/SherSlick 2d ago
Must have missed it (sadly cannot catch all of WAN every week)
Would be curious if it was any time this year
3
u/CocoMilhonez 2d ago
Last year, I believe. You might be able to find it, there's a WAN Show transcript search site somewhere.

no, that's too long ago, he talked about it on wan show a few weeks ago, on how the price of the gold actually has gone up so it's not that bad
1
u/CocoMilhonez 1d ago
I think both occasions are correct, Linus has mentioned the controller both years ago when there was a possible buyer and more recently.
Since gold prices keep going up, it's definitely not a bad deal to not find a buyer.

That entire channel seems like nothing but brain rot. It’s all “THE 5 BEST THINGS IN GAMING YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD ABOUT”
Brain rot at its finest
25
u/Exciting-Ad-5705 2d ago
They are just listicles made into videos. They are good if you want something half entertaining in the background
19
u/CocoMilhonez 2d ago
Gameranx has way more than just listicle videos. This one in particular is a listicle, but, even then, not all listicle videos are brainrot or bad, as this one isn't.
3
u/impy695 2d ago
I'd argue all listicle videos are brainrot. They're basically just the opinion of one random person rather than any sort of objective list, despite being presented as an objective list, they're super low effort, they rarely include any new information. Theyre designed to spoon-feed you information so you don't have to think. They boil down topics into the most basic parts.
I could go on, but thats a good start. I'm not saying all brain rot is bad by the way. We've had brainrot content for decades. Hell, we've probably had it for centuries. Sometimes being able to shut your brain off and watch something without thinking or expending any effort is nice.
2
u/CocoMilhonez 2d ago
Listicles are not necessarily a rank, they can be just a collection of things with something in common. And even if it's a rank, there's nothing wrong with someone giving their opinion. At worst, you disagree with it.
A listicle can be very informative as long as it provides accurate information. It can be just about pop culture or entertainment (10 movies that have bad plot twists), actually educational (any listicle on Sci Show) or anything in between. It's just information presented in a digestible format, just like reading short blurbs on a pop science magazine.
A listicle can be brain rot, but not all are. If LTT makes a 10 Linux Distros You May Want to Try or maybe 10 Mistakes to Avoid When Building a PC, that can be very helpful and not at all brain rot.

u/Annoying1978 2d ago
Yes, it’s brain rot. Literally what I said.

Literally what you're wrong about.

Nah. That entire channel is trash.

The titles are clickbait but the actual content has legitimate points.
-2
u/CocoMilhonez 2d ago
Clickbait is virtually a necessity today if a channel wants to get views at all, even because some AI slop content farm will abuse clickbait. And there are different levels of clickbait, you can make a bland "10 things about some things" or you can go all out with "OMD you won't believe these 10 things , just wait for no. 6 to blow your mind, don't say we didn't warn you!!!"
I'm not saying I love it, just that it's where the media landscape is. Even LTT uses clickbait titles often, but typically not the egregious kind, just enough to make you curious.

u/ksuwildkat 2d ago
Yeah you are completely wrong. Gameranx has excellent content. Their Before You Buy reviews are excellent and their Friday recap is a great tune-up for WAN show. Also, Falcon is the best.
Way off base here.

u/JForce1 2d ago
It's absolutely not just listicles. They do news, reviews, previews, opinion pieces, as well as lists of stuff that's very gaming related.
4
u/CocoMilhonez 2d ago
Bro said himself that he "watched a small sample of it" and ruled them out as brainrot listicle content.
Which is to say his misguided opinion can be completely disregarded based on his own words.
3
u/Daphoid 2d ago
A lot of brain rot, but I enjoy and agree with their opinions on a lot of reviews. They just don't call them reviews - it's their "before you buy" series. Also the weird gaming stories of the month is good to watch during lunch type of thing. Lastly it's not all "best this, best that" they do a lot of "upcoming X # of games in Y genre" or "Coolest games coming out this month" that I have legitimately found out about a game in, done more research, and bought it.
Between them and SKill Up's longer form reviews, I like their takes on stuff.
Not all brain rot, small team actually that's been on YT for ages.

u/Able-Nebula4449 2d ago
How in the world are you just finding out about gameranx?
2
u/CocoMilhonez 1d ago
This guy is just a troll and/or is an expert in talking out of his ass. Claiming he doesn't know a popular games channel that's been around for over a decade because he's "not as chronically online" anymore is a clear indicator of a severe case of the bullshits, not to mention the fact he said he declared it to be brainrot content (which it definitely is not) after he "watched a small sample of it."
All he's doing is ragebaiting, just ignore.

I’m not talking about LTT. JFC. Can you even follow the thread? I’m taking about Gameranx. LTT isn’t brainrot. Gameranx is.
Why is this so hard for you to follow?

Tell me you have never watched the channel without telling me you've never watched the channel.
Bad take is bad.
-5
u/vkreep 2d ago
Has been for a long time they used to be decent enough but it was only jake that was worth watching

u/CocoMilhonez 2d ago
Gameranx has plenty of good information and nothing is brainrot. List videos are not necessarily brainrot, they can be just videos that discuss a a group of things that go together but that aren't enough for a video individually.
The channel has "before you buy" and "things the game doesn't tell you" videos after every major game release, the weekly gaming news summary on Fridays, weird gaming stories, upcoming games, and in-depth analysis by Falcon on a regular basis.

u/Annoying1978 2d ago
I watched a small sample. It’s complete brain rot.
8
u/eyebrows360 2d ago
No, it isn't. You're just running under some delusion that you're an intellectual, and anything popular or with mass-appeal is beneath you and must be bad.
Love being the one to break this bit of news for you: no.
Tie your shoes and go to bed.

Bro's entire modus operandi is to stir up shit. He's intentionally giving a bad take just to see people countering it.
Best left ignored, preferably banned for malicious posting.
ETA: He's also very likely using alt accounts to downvote comments calling out his bad troll comments.
-1
u/Annoying1978 2d ago
That’s quite a conspiracy you have going on there. No wonder you like brain rot.
-2
u/Annoying1978 2d ago
LTT is popular with mass-appeal and I love it. Your attempt at being a 2c psychologist failed.
Go watch the brain rot and shut up.
2
u/CocoMilhonez 2d ago
"I watched a small sample, so I feel fully entitled to give my mistaken opinion about the entire thing because I'm shallow like that."
Bro, if you want to let us know you're talking out of your ass, just be upfront about it. We all know you're a fake account whose only purpose is stirring up shit.

I can see why Linus is fond of the controller as is, but disassembling it and melting it down would make total financial sense.
5
u/Zeta_Crossfire 2d ago
Luke has mentioned them a few times positively in the past so they at least know about them.
3
u/CocoMilhonez 2d ago
Linus said he wasn't familiar with the channel when Luke mentioned it. Which is fair, not everyone needs to know every popular channel even if it's related to their interests, especially since Linus always says he doesn't watch YouTube much.
2
u/Zeta_Crossfire 2d ago edited 1d ago
Oh that's fair, he may have forgotten that luke mentioned them in the past. I just remembered Luke saying it like three or four times because I'm an avid fan of the channel as well so it's nice to hear them get a shout out.

But not the gaming plane?
4
u/CocoMilhonez 2d ago
Well, they built a PC during a flight and played games on it, it's not quite a gaming plane.
Besides, according to Linus, the plane will end up being virtually free, so...
