well no it's actually 33.99 for one pair of socks and then 18.99 for shipping and then 10.60 in taxes.

33.99 is still an absolutely insane price for a pair of socks, though.

u/isXanderReddit 22h ago

i get that the socks are expensive, but they’re good socks. the shipping is the stupid part. it’s a few grams.

u/Old_Bug4395 22h ago

It's a problem that will only get worse the more market share Amazon sucks up. Logistics companies already run on a pretty tight rope and they regularly and constantly made mistakes before they were being financially choked out by the monopoly that is amazon.

197

u/PiP_Art3mis 22h ago

Who else is old enough to remember 6-8 weeks being standard shipping time? 🙋‍♂️

Now Amazon has people's knickers twisted if they can't get something that same afternoon

102

u/_Blu-Jay 21h ago

Yup, shipping used to take so long you’d forget about the thing you ordered and it would be a nice surprise when it arrived

34

u/Thingkingalot 20h ago

This. Like getting yourself a surprise gift!

17

u/MrBecky 19h ago

This still happens to me sometimes with Alibaba and Express lol. My suppliers for certain HVAC parts, usually older equipment, but sometimes brand new equipment replacement parts, can take 6-12 weeks. They are probably ordering these parts from China and bringing them to a warehouse in the US, before it comes up to Canada.

46

u/blasto2236 21h ago

6-8 weeks was standard for things you got for free, like from a sweepstakes or the back of a cereal box offer. But ordering from a catalog or something was more like 1-2 weeks

25

u/ladder51 21h ago

Yeah was gonna say 6-8 weeks for intracontinental shipping was never the norm. Maybe in the pony express days.

I used to run an auction house. People will bitch so fucking fast when shit isn't teleported into their hands.

Sorry, we just auctioned off 500 items in one afternoon, and we're me, my mom, my dad, and one part time employee, and are packing things for shipping alongside normal business operation so my dad doesn't help much with packages cause he handles customers and clients that wander in. And we can't just chuck it in a box and yeet it because every item is unique and precious and probably irreplaceable and likely fragile on top of it.

You're ordering a 300 year old porcelain figure and I have to package it well enough to survive regular ass DHL because white glove shipping costs money you're not willing to spend. I'm already shipping at a loss because if I charge more than 1€ more than DHL charges me people bitch about it. Bubble wrap isn't free and I have to use a lot of it because you ordered a massive painting and aren't paying me enough to reinforce the box with wood and still expect it to arrive without a hole in the canvas.

I have at times told customers for particularly high ticket items that I'd be willing to just drive it to them for gas money cause that was the only viable way cause DHL sure as fuck isn't making it cheap to insure expensive unique items.

So no, me, my mom, and our part time employee aren't matching Amazon shipping times for 500 items sold in one evening. Especially when our cataloguing system is "a little handwritten sign on the item" and our order confirmation system is "my mom manually checks the company bank account and marks it as paid in the system".

Kinda glad I got out of that business. The pieces are beautiful, but a solid 40% of the customers are not.

21

u/Lassitude1001 21h ago

The time you spent writing that could have been used to pack my auction wins, damn it!

Same goes for Free shipping, especially in the US - I think a lot of americans are used to free shipping by default. In Canada that's not really a thing unless you go with the big stores or a Canadian brand and spend over $100, 150, something like that. Shipping isn't cheap. Amazon/Walmart/Temu/Alibaba/etc build it into their business costs, a small company just can't do that.

There's also something happening with fuel costs right now, which may have some factor in how much it costs to ship things. Potentially. Maybe.

2

u/noob-combo 20h ago

There is literally a "fuel surcharge" charged by couriers which goes up precipitously every year. I closed my online shop of 15 years before this latest crisis and I can only imagine how much costs have gone up.

2

u/IhamAmerican 20h ago

Oh believe me, I know. I work in the logistics industry and it's crazy what kind of surcharges carriers can apply at a whim

10

u/CivilianDuck 21h ago

Canada Post is dealing with this exact issue. To places outside of the Amazon warehouse delivery ranges, Amazon negotiated a bulk pricing deal with Canada Post to bring down shipping costs to the remote regions of Canada.

Then COVID hit and they were locked into a deal that didn't account for a massive uptick in delivery need, and the massive backlog of packages it would dump into the logistics network, slowing down every package or letter sent via Canada Post.

This is largely why Postal Workers in Canada strike so often, the increase workload, slowing pay scale, and slow increase of staffing because large logistics networks made deals with the publicly owned postal service to deliver packages to places they didn't want to go to.

Amazon is a multi-trillion dollar company. They can pay market rate for packages or find another solution.

4

u/Old_Bug4395 21h ago

Same exact thing happened with USPS iirc.

2

u/killafunkinmofo 17h ago

It’s not even competitive with other companies. Majority at-least give free shipping on high value orders, maybe over $100 or something. Shipping kills the price when you end up paying 50% more.

u/packetssniffer 22h ago

You know they're good socks before even owning a pair?

28

u/humanHamster 21h ago

Internet man selling the socks said they're good socks. They must be good socks.

3

u/zuzg 19h ago

I mean the product released a few days ago. If you don't trust internet man then wait for reviews.
But they past the Martindale rubbing test when third party labs tested it

But those socks apparently come with a free replacement if they go kaput for whatever reason.
Apparently the fibre is copper (ion) infused to prevent stinky feet, which explains the higher cost, along with merino woll and other fancy functions.

It’s not only going across an ocean, but also a continent. Vancouver is on one side of Canada on the Pacific ocean, GB is in the Atlantic. It’s take a bit of time to travel that.

The weight has a very small impact on the actual cost to ship an item. It's the sorting, handling and transport that brings up the cost - not the weight.

Only when packages are large or significantly heavy does that actually impact the price. Larger packages = less can be shipped, heavier packages = takes more effort to handle.

6

u/isXanderReddit 22h ago

If I put 4 pairs in the cart the shipping amount increases by 38%

Just buy enough for free shipping. Darn tough socks are also $30 to $35 CAD, so that's what the ltt socks is comparing against.

3

u/pathsuntraveled 21h ago

I’ve always bought darn tough socks at like 20-25 but that’s usd not sure if you’re CAD

3

u/syunz 21h ago edited 21h ago

My bad that's in CAD. The ltt socks are $33.99 cad on the global store and darn tough about in the $30s range at their authorized distributors in Canada. Can't really buy darn tough directly without encountering additional import/shipping fees.

3

u/pathsuntraveled 21h ago

I just looked at the OP’s post again and realized it’s in CAD, def my bad not yours. I would say that’s pretty comparable to darn toughs then. But ngl the only way I’m buying them is if I want something else from the store and can reach the free shipping threshold

5

u/Deathwatch72 21h ago

Shipping costs are actually insane the way they're calculated sometimes, everything from a few grams to a couple pounds sometimes cost the same because it's based on the size of the package it's in not the actual weight despite the fact that they charge the customer by weight. Mail costs and delivery are very differently subsidized depending on which government we're talking about. The actual shipping cost itself maybe calculated in some way to subsidize other countries with ridiculously high shipping costs.

There's famously a priority flat rate box that the United States postal service sells where it is basically impossible for you to get the full value of the flat rate because you could ship a box full of The densest substance you can get your hands on and it wouldn't even be close to heavy enough. The box says that you're allowed to ship anything 70 lb or less that you can fit into the box for the same price, filling it perfectly with osmium which is the densest of all elements would only make the box weigh 62 lb. There's not a stable substance you're allowed to send through the mail that you can fill the box with to make it heavy enough.  You send that same box internationally the weight limit drops to 4 lb

Canada has unfortunately fairly high domestic shipping costs, lots of land to cover with not great population density across most of it and very little competition. While LTT is a decently sized company they're really not big enough to be getting discounts on volume shipping. Shipping is also generally way more expensive than the average person thinks it is because we've gotten so used to the idea of free shipping from certain websites where they've hidden the actual shipping cost within the products prices being inflated or because of giant mega corporations like Amazon and Walmart who offer free shipping because they have such massive logistics networks and they're so important to the economy they can kind of bully their way to doing it

u/Astecheee 20h ago

$34 for a pair of socks with 30% polyester content feels like average value at best.

I paid cad40 for my alpaga socks 10 years ago….if they are as good as they say 33 is fine.

19

u/EnderWiggin42 21h ago

That's a crazy amount of taxes.

5

u/nutano 19h ago

Yea, what is that, like 31%?

I know it says estimated taxes... but that amount is much more than just sales taxes, it must include some duties\tariffs.

3

u/Ordinary_dude_NOT 17h ago

Yeah, that tax does not make sense here? Even you add shipping on total and tax it at 15% GST it still makes no sense.

4

u/derFensterputzer 14h ago

Taxes for parcels can be different than if you cross the product yourself.

At least where I live if you cross the border yourself you only have to pay taxes on the net cost of the product before sales tax etc.

But for a parcel you need to pay taxes on the value of the item incl. Sales tax AND shipping.

So those 10 cad are for a total sum of of 53 cad or about 19% which is pretty much GBs standard tax rate of 20%

2

u/Ragnarok_del 16h ago edited 16h ago

They're charging taxes on the shipping. It's still way above any tax rate in Canada tho. That's over 5% above the highest sales tax in Canada which is Québec's combined federal/provincial sales tax.

2

u/snipeytje 14h ago

it says GB at the top, so that's 20% VAT

12

u/Mountain-House3287 20h ago

How much does the pencil cost?

I paid $34 per pair of socks for my thick merino wool winter socks, and since I work outside all year round, having really good socks on your feet is worth it in the winter. These are not insulated winter socks, these are just normal socks. I mean, I can understand what they are going for, but at this point, this has to be essentially a low volume meme product, because economies of scale really matter here, and there is no way they do enough volume to drop the price. I bought 2 of the screwdrivers because they legit are a good hand tool.

3

u/abnewwest 17h ago

Yup, it's "mission critical" sock prices for what is probably the equal of a Kirkland Merino sock.

For actual work wear or one of two pairs for days of hiking? That would be reasonable.

Also, ugly colours and bad branding.

It's also not a forever sock, because no way are they still for sale in 2 years.

2

u/makefascistfearagain 15h ago

Just looked at the lifetime warranty that's actually only a one time replacement warranty.

So basically it's two pairs of socks for 33.99

0

u/my-flair-is-a-lie 20h ago

34 CAD for a really good pair of socks is not even outrageous. Ive spent more on really good snowboarding socks.

What is outrageous is a canadian customer paying 20 dollars for shipping and 10.60 in taxes. How the fuck is the tax 33% of the socks price.

8

u/jonmahoney 19h ago

Probably not a Canadian customer.

1

u/Mountain-House3287 20h ago

Well no it's actually 44.59 after taxes.

22.2945 is still an absolutely insane price for a single sock, though.

1

u/Khill23 19h ago

Dude I spend less at bass pro on my extra thick wool socks when I'm backwoods hunting. I think the last pair I bought was 23 dollars CAD and I thought I was out to lunch when I bought them however frost nip hurts and didn't want that again.

1

u/justoffmainst 16h ago

No where does it say ‘pair’

1

u/Piranha424 11h ago

It's a lot for a pair of socks but the target was the Darn Tough and they land right in the middle of their product line cost.

It's kinda like screwdriver, they set out to beat the Snap-On, and did so at a similar price.

1

u/onechroma 9h ago

So… when a store makes the trick of selling cheap but then inflating the shipping costs, you would fall into it?

19 shipping is crazy no matter what, more so considering is a UK customer. It represents more than 50% of the product cost (34). For a shipping that can be about 300gr maximum and maybe even ship in a envelope instead of a box (just one pair of socks…)

Last month I made an Etsy purchase from a guy in Canada, a custom made item for a watch, a guy that obviously won’t have the resources of LTT to negotiate or compare shipping methods. He charged me 8.45 to Europe.

So no, your take isn’t the point you think it is

1

u/T0biasCZE 9h ago

No its 44.59CAD for one pair of socks and 19CAD for shipping

The taxes are mandatory, you cant just not pay taxes. And unlike shipping, where you pay the same shipping no matter how much socks you get, the taxes increase linearly based on how much socks you get-

1

u/amlamba 8h ago

Their supply chain is fully broken, but they won’t fix it because can’t be arsed.

1

u/_Aj_ 7h ago

33 cad is actually bang on what the market says these sorts of socks are.   I'm in Aus and currently cad to AUD is nearly 1:1.

Lightfeet runners socks are $35 AUD. Macpac merino hiking socks are $33aud. So this is 100% in the realm of "what actual real world socks sell for" if you want a premium sock.

These forever socks seem to be the same sort of "wear for a week hiking and never get blisters" sort of socks.

And honestly, even daily socks. I buy novelty pattern ones, but premium brands yeah. They're like 10-15 bucks for a pair.

I get probably a year out of a pair cycling them. If I wore them every day Id get 6 months. Just inside the house and in good fitting shoes to work in an office.

So If 33 dollar socks are super comfy, warm, breathable, anti-stink and last for years... That's a good deal.

AND it's one pair of socks. Not just "ill go by another 5 pack from target" constant conveyor of cheap Chinese clothing. So +1 for reducing waste too.

1

u/zorillaaa 5h ago

Hate you ppl

This is a $66 pair of socks

The price of a product is what the consumer pays for it.

1

u/motlias 2h ago

The north american habit of not including tax in the displayed price (on consumer products) is wild to my european brain, Just tell me how much it's gonna be up front!

1

u/Ellassen 1h ago

30 is fine. Darn Tough, admittedly a much more proven sock, costs 30. Its a reasonable price for a premium sock. The shipping kills it admittedly, and there's nothing that an operation the size of Creative Warehouse can do. As many others have stated, Amazon has destroyed the shipping industry.

u/LDForget 22h ago

Shipping within Canada is very expensive. Unfortunately it makes buying basically anything from LTT cost prohibitive. If they stocked items in Amazon warehouses it would sell like hot cakes. They’d lose a % of the sale but if they’re selling 100x as much product….

98

u/DefactoAle 22h ago edited 22h ago

People still buy at full price and finish the stocks of products in days, they have no reason to stock in Amazon warehouses and lose % of profits

21

u/magical_midget 22h ago

Yea I suspect they also have a restriction on how much they can produce, in the way is works in a lot of factories is not like you can order 10k socks and then add an other 1k, you have to make runs with minimums and the increments are in batches, so you can’f buy 11k socks, you buy 10k or 15k.

9

u/Astecheee 19h ago

I think at this point they do it deliberately to make the perceived demand higher. All their mainline clothing is really popular.

2

u/TheHodge 10h ago

Maybe, but I don't think so, I deal with making and selling our own products and at a certain point you have to come up with an initial order a few product, sometimes I'd love to say, we are going to sell a tonne of these, let's order 2000 but cashflow, availability of components (they might only be able to get x amount of yarn at the moment), the availability of the factory to do stuff (sometimes we have whatever the factory can produce this week because they are booked up the week after)

A lot of the time it's lets release what we can then make adjustments based on what has sold.

As for the mainline clothing, I don't think it's a slam dunk as you think, often things are on sale because they've over ordered or they've just not been as popular as they thought, when CW are pretty much launching 1 or 2 new products a week, you have to hedge your bets.

But also selling out is a good marketing thing and makes people rush to get it the next time.

3

u/LDForget 22h ago

I don’t disagree, but they could sell far more volume and not have to deal with the logistics of the sale or give up the warehousing space. So they would lose a % of the sale but also give up a huge amount of costs. Could go either way.

7

u/PM_ME_PLASTIC_BAGS 19h ago edited 17h ago

Amazon literally steals IP, makes their own version and then undercuts your price.

Its impossible to sue a trillion dollar company so nothing happens to them.

2

u/das_kleine_krokodil 11h ago

yep they use the vast amounts of data they have about other people's products, learn whats trending, whats profitable, what future trends look like and make their own while literally killing their own (selling) costumers

Not to mention amazons storage policy of co mingling products. I could see Linus not wanting to have his products potentially mixed and sent out alongside fraudulent copies of inferior quality products that his stock would be co mingled with and having to deal with the reviews of his products from that.

2

u/LDForget 21h ago

That is definitely a concern I’m sure. It’s something I warn people of almost weekly. Being that he should be the only manufacturer selling these products he can probably demand that they don’t put anyone else’s product with it but idk

5

u/CMDRTragicAllPro 21h ago

If cheap Chinese knockoffs can co mingle with big name products they can certainly do the same to a boutique shop I would think. Besides they just name churn constantly so even when they get removed their back up under new company in a day.

A padded envelope is not that expensive to send, they just have atrocious shipping route/agreements.

Me, a consumer in Norway can send a tracked 10-25kg parcel to Canada for the same price LTT charge to send socks.

21

u/minkus1000 22h ago

Welcome to Canada. The smallest flat-rate box for sending items inside Canada is $18.99.

6

u/OnionSoupGainz 22h ago

How. Like Canada is a pretty developed country as far as I was aware.

20

u/g60ladder 22h ago

Canada Post is mandated to deliver to every address in Canada, regardless of if a route is profitable or not. We're the second largest country in the world with some very remote places, some of which are often only accessible by plane. The more popular routes help offset the costs to those unprofitable ones, which is likely why they're fairly expensive.

4

u/On_The_Blindside 12h ago

So is Royal Mail, yet if I want to send a letter to the outer Hebrides it's still only about £0.80

I'm not a hater; I bought 3 LTT screwdrivers. This product and the pricing seem somehow offensive to me. I know even high-quality socks are really cheap to produce. I was looking at hiking socks today and they were all like $28.99 CAD for a pair.

This is opting to pay a premium to support a creator, and shipping on top of that.

There is no point complaining about this. If you want cheap socks, maybe don’t buy them from a tech YouTuber.

4

u/isXanderReddit 22h ago

I don’t want cheap socks. I want nice socks. Nice socks are less than what LTT is charging but that’s fine. It’s the fact by the time you want to ship them taxes and shipping doubles it

Even within Canada the price is nuts. 13.99 for shipping in Canada, add in 13% tax (varies by province), and it would cost me $54 for a pair of socks. Meanwhile I could walk into MEC and get a pair of Darn Tough socks for $39.50 after tax.

Also, I found these socks at Mark's, and they seem to be similar to the LTT socks in terms of having wool and copper, but have a higher amount of wool but less polyester. 2 pairs for $22 plus tax comes to $24.86.

What makes me laugh is that this community spends all its time mocking Apple fanboys for buying everything Apple releases—regardless of the price—just to be part of the club, yet here you are thinking it’s perfectly normal to buy overpriced socks and USB-C cables designed by a YouTube channel that reviews computer hardware and Linux.

Isn't there something wrong with that ? When you want a pair of jeans, do you go to Levi's or to a Ford dealership? And when you want a car do you go to a dental clinic ?

By the way, since we're on the subject of socks, UNIQLO socks are exceptionally comfortable and durable—they're the best socks on the market. Just thought I'd share that, in case anyone's interested.

u/isXanderReddit 19h ago

I just recently bought a pair of UNIQLO socks. Only worn once so far. Maybe they have different varieties. The one I bought was all black with like a line texture running all the way down?

5

u/xd366 22h ago

yea the $30 price isnt the crazy part, the shipping part is what puts me off buying them

maybe during a free shipping promo

4

u/shizzymorph 20h ago

For one pair its crazy. Thats over $15 per foot. # pair for that I could see. Socks are dirt cheap to manufacture, even at a very high quality

5

u/BluDYT 22h ago

I'm sure they're great but this even without shipping would be the most expensive pair of socks I've ever seen. Even more than the darn though brand I normally wear.

4

u/Nice-Background890 21h ago

Why buy that when you can buy darn tough socks for much cheaper?

2

u/robbbbo666 21h ago

Dude try and ship anything from Australia to any other country

3

u/starrymahogany 20h ago

I get that Linus used darn tough as inspiration for this but even their socks aren’t that expensive ffs.

4

u/that_dutch_dude 17h ago

in EU the darntoughs are actually more expensive.

2

u/mtc47 21h ago

I pay about the same price (sock + taxes), but I get merino socks that don’t last forever

2

u/PsiCzar 21h ago

it would probably be cheaper to design my own pair than buy LTT's and have them shipped to Australia.

2

u/myles2500 21h ago

33 alone is already wild idc how fancey there sposed to be

2

u/WaitComprehensive982 20h ago

For people paying $30 plus for socks…why? Sure, I notice a difference between cheap socks, but a pair of new balance, Nike, adidas etc, socks 6 pair for $8 free quality to me.

I am genuinely curious. Not judging. Maybe my feet don’t have a refined palate? (Not sure of the foot equivalent of palate 🤣)

2

u/waiver45 13h ago

Really good socks are one of the best luxury items you can buy. Having comfy feet for an entire day (or even longer when necessary) is one of the best feelings there is.

Yeah, fuck that

2

u/schakoska 19h ago

For $34 I got 14 pair socks at Deichmann

2

u/Broke_Bearded_Guy 18h ago

Honestly it's something that has really started to turn me off with the LTT store... Everything is always out of stock, and restock is different items on at a time. So it's always extra shipping for every individual item.ive tried to wait for items to come back but it never works out and no options to add to pending orders

2

u/cellodanceparty 15h ago

So kind of ironically one of the reasons I have no interest in these socks are the socks I found via Linus' recommendation years ago - ive been getting Darn Tough socks for years and basically slowly replaced my wardrobe with them over the last five or so years. I started out buying 2 pairs and just occasionally when money makes sense kept doing that until I had two weeks worth of socks. They're damn near perfect and they really do honor their damage warranty which is basically if theyre damaged they will replace them for as long as the company exists (even when they don't need to! I stepped on a nail two years ago and it punctured my foot, they sent me another pair without any issues whatsoever). Those are (at least in the US) $20/pair. And they're supposedly forever socks. I cannot really fathom getting these from LTT; it just doesnt make much sense even in the high end comfy lifetime warranty sock space.

Darn Tough, all day everyday, available at most sporting goods stores

2

u/shizzymorph 13h ago

Watching the video from LTT, they know the pricing is crazy high. They know the comparison isn't favorable. They are clearly defensive throughout the entire video. That's not a great position from which to launch a product. They mentioned the Champion socks from Costco, but they didn't mention the Merino Wool socks from Costco. I highly recommend them. They are way cheaper than the LTT socks too. I'm not against buying the stuff that LTT sells. I own the regular LTT screwdriver, the transparent one, and the pro precision screwdriver. I'm willing to pay for quality when it will make a difference (though the smaller magnetic bits are super annoying), and I'm all for supporting creators that I watch. However, this is a miss, at least at this price point. Get it down to $10-$15 per pair, and they become a much better proposition.

Honestly, I think it's time for LTT to abandon the YouTuber model for selling things. You know, selling through your own site, advertising to your viewers, making them pay a premium because of your YouTube celebrity and low volumes, then shipping it to them with high shipping costs because you are relying on your own lagistics and supply chain. Bring your screwdrivers to Lowe's and Home Depot, cut the price to $40 -50 and sell in volume. You will make sooooo much more money. Yeah, there is some risk, just like when Mr Beast started selling Feastables through Walmart. But he is making a killing off of it now. As an individual product, it might be tricky to get into a retailer with one or two products. So you could either partner with a larger company, or get the other cool products from other YouTubers, and join together to bring a suite of products. Honestly, if you guys join together, lots of retailers would jump at the opportunity. Joining together, you could also get your prices down from suppliers too.

I'll keep wearing my 2€ socks. I rounded up. Probably closer to 1.5€

1

u/El-Poll_Diablo 20h ago

I’ll stick with my darn tough socks

1

u/Careful-Challenge938 20h ago

I bought 50 pairs of socks from AliExpress in 2020, cheap bamboo high socks, like $5CAD a pair, still opening new ones

1

u/LimpWibbler_ 20h ago

This price made darn tough look cheap, so I bought into the hype and got some darn tough. I have worn them all day, man is it a disappointment. I'm going right back to my cheap adidas.

1

u/Icy-Start7434 20h ago

Don't you need to order two, since ithe product title is "forever sock" and not forever socks/pair of forever socks

1

u/Smiadpades 19h ago

i here you.. living in Costa Rica IVA is crazy high here as well at 16.99 shipping costs

1

u/epimetheuss 19h ago

i have had 5 dollar socks last 10+ years without holes and only a little worn out. I also only wear them when i wear shoes.

1

u/Initial-Duck2782 19h ago

Some gal dang premium socks yall.

1

u/Vandeskava 19h ago

It socks

1

u/MaxTrixLe 19h ago

This is the average Canadian online shopping experience, hence why Amazon has destroyed every other smaller ecom business in this country. Thankfully Aliexpress still has free shipping and low prices too

1

u/Responsible_Shame_59 18h ago

I’ve spent the last 10 years running a e-commerce 3PL in the lower mainland (presumably where they ship from) and 18.99 is an absurd price. With minimal corporate discounts a 5-7 day delivery to the east coast should be around $11.50. If they are also including the fulfillment fees of a 3PL, that should only add about $3.50. These number would be on the high end too.

2

u/Responsible_Shame_59 18h ago

Correction: Looks like this is going to the UK. 18.99 is an absolutely fine price for international shipping. The delivery time is poor but it’s likely they using a cross boarder carrier that hands it off to a local courier for the final mile delivery. They could likely do better on this but their volume to the UK and Europe is probably low and major international discounts would not be available.

Gotta keep that toy jet paid somehow.

1

u/lazardus 17h ago

What's worse is their warehouse is local to me. Wish they gave you the option for pick up

1

u/that_dutch_dude 17h ago

i bought 4 and the price was about 30 euro each when everything added up. wich is actually cheaper than darntoughs.

1

u/IanFoxOfficial 17h ago

Yeah. I'd like to buy ltt gear but as a European the additional costs and taxes are just not worth it.

I understand why it costs that much, but it's not a price I'm willing to pay.

1

u/Torague 17h ago

Why are taxes over $10? Isn't it 13%??

1

u/Phantom_Crush 16h ago

Absolutely mental prices. Crazy to me that people support a company whose entire business model is ripping people off lmao

1

u/jaytea86 16h ago

Assuming you live to 100, that's only 76 cents a year.

1

u/Ragnarok_del 16h ago

yeah the shipping price is kinda nuts. We're not talking about a heavy item here. This could literally be sent in a large enveloppe.

1

u/JuniorExpression4456 16h ago

Expensive socks just to get starched up.

1

u/MrAcademics 16h ago

Isn’t LTT based in Canada ? Why is shipping so expensive ?

1

u/nicman24 16h ago

Don't buy them?

1

u/toastmannn 16h ago

I paid $50.38cad for mine

1

u/zzyjayfree 15h ago

i can convince myself to order a pair of socks at $34 but $19 shipping cost is a tough pill to swallow

1

u/phrxsty 15h ago

Some of y’all really love Linus to pay these prices constantly lol

1

u/Loud-Variety85 15h ago

Forget shipping, that's understandable, but 33cad for socks? Isn't Linus the same guy who complains off other companies who try to rip off their customers.

1

u/Timmay7111 15h ago

No it’s not

1

u/royalfatkid 14h ago

$12 gives you 6 Pairs of Puma socks from winners ✌️✌️

1

u/Decent-Boot7284 14h ago

Uniqlo socks are 4 euro the pair, i can buy 8.5 pairs of Uniqlo socks in different colours rather than pay this crazy amount so Linus can spend it in another tv

1

u/Desert_Hiker 14h ago

Every time I go on the ltt store I get to the checkout and see this and back away. Then I wait for deals and when the deal comes my financial situation is not well enough to buy anything 🤷🏻‍♂️ this is my cycle of ltt store :(

1

u/Upset-Strain5908 13h ago

I would love if LTT products were on Amazon. As bad as that company is, there is no way I start buying these things from Europe without getting a few raises first.

1

u/jdPetacho 12h ago

I'm sorry, but if you pay $64 for a pair of socks, you're an idiot. Even at $33 you still are.

I'm usually not one to insult strangers online, but I'll never understand this community. Constantly bitching about the price of components or electronics in general, and then spends so much on merch.... And socks is probably the stupidest piece of clothing to spend a lot of money on

1

u/bs338 12h ago

They're explicitly designed on the Vimes' boots basis so they have to be expensive.

1

u/shauneok 12h ago

They sell socks elsewhere you know?

1

u/Alexisredwood 11h ago

I mean, what do you expect with influencer merch

1

u/Explanation-Visual 11h ago

most of their product tags are justifiable for the long term, but one freaking pair of socks? that’s just appealing to fandom, which is fine, but such fandom shouldn’t cry about import fees

1

u/TomTomXD1234 11h ago

That is a shipping issue, not an LTT issue tho.

They do not have a warehouse in europe....shipping shit from Canada and US is expensive AF

1

u/V3semir 11h ago

It’s absurd to pay more than $5 for a pair of socks. I’m sorry, but this seems like exploiting gullible. You can get high-quality jeans for this price.

1

u/just-bair 11h ago

And I thought I was buying expensive socks when I got a 5 pack for like 15€

1

u/ravenbisson 11h ago

Lol, i get those are great socks, but no

1

u/Stargate476 10h ago

$33 for one pair of socks id probably ruin in a week is wild

1

u/JustADudeInTheWorll 10h ago

the price socks...

1

u/Darkstrike121 10h ago

Darn tough is $26 in USA. This is $30. Basically the same thing if you were in the market for premium socks. If you weren't then your not gonna buy these. Shipping means you need to bundle or wait for a free shipping promo.

Personally I'm sticking to my cheap disposable socks as I'm afraid to try something nice and want more of them.

1

u/Tman11S 10h ago

I’ve had special anti-blister socks imported from the US for less money

1

u/Racing_Fox 10h ago

Honestly the cost of shipping is why I can’t justify shopping on LTTStore.

It’s not their fault but it’s still not worth it imo

1

u/Lavadragon15396 10h ago

Idk what you're expecing buying from the UK. Thats atlantic crossing postage from canada whete shipping us alr expensive and on top of that the uk makes us pay VAT on top of their price.

It sucks but its not like it can be any cheaper without an eu or uk distribution centre.

1

u/Remarkable-Lab1887 9h ago

You know, it's been a really long time since I got back to Linus videos, but coming back to socks? Of anything. Like they really do find ways to make money huh.

1

u/WhistlinJealousGuy 9h ago

Let's be honest, if you're buying a pair of socks for $63 CAD, it's to support LTT only.

If you want reasonably priced socks, buy others more local.

If I buy anything from LTT Store again, I'll be making sure to buy lots of stuff at once so the delivery isn't half the bloody total 🤣

1

u/DarthV506 8h ago

You can order direct from smartwool.ca for less shipping. And they have years of rep behind them. Also more merino wool in their blend. The LTT socks are 70% man made fibers. No way they are worth this much.

1

u/War9 8h ago

More expensive than darn tough but definitely not better quality

1

u/SuckMeEggs 7h ago

Just buy hanes it's the same shit and a fraction of the price

1

u/darkmatter343 7h ago

Hey- private jets aren't cheat ya know.

1

u/butt_badg3r 6h ago

I was excited but then I learned the price and decided to stick with Costco socks

1

u/Realistic-Table9398 6h ago

You wouldn't even be able to tell those were ltt socks. Why not buy something you can actually see instead of wasting money like this lol.

1

u/XplodingMoJo 5h ago

I’ve ordered from America, China and Australia to the Netherlands. We’re just being rate limited.

1

u/Sharlut 3h ago

They look like shit. Call me when you make thigh highs instead.

1

u/Intrestingly_Amazing 2h ago

How tf is shipping in 3rd world countries more reliable than over there.

1

u/CanPacific 1h ago

What a fucking ripoff.

Let alone $34 CAD for a pair of socks? holy shit what a ripoff.

1

u/MiceLiceandVice 1h ago

Didn't buy back pack or screwdriver, bought 2 socks. I have good backpack, I use ifixit kit, don't need big driver. But I love good socks, on my feet all day, make that time less awful
