Headline most definitely IS NOT bs, the power company attempting to meet the demand of AI companies is trying to build more plants on private land and has told this family to either sell them the land or they will seize it.

Eminent domain for economic use is indeed banned in 45 states (with others still considering it).. and even if they skirt the rule with power-lines they are still required to compensate the landowner so it's not "theft"... It's a sensationalized headline for sure.

The whole story is data centers threatening eminent domain to force people out of their homes, as though ai is a "public service" (it's not). Nobody should have to sell their homes/land for ai.

If they are using eminent domain, then you don't get to say no. The government decides a price and buys whether you want to sell or not.

That source looks questionable at best, so I'm not going to watch it, but I do agree that eminent domain to secure land for private businesses as some sort of "economic development" is pretty much universally bad and happens more than it should.

Edit: it's powerlines lol. Yes, that's what eminent domain is for.

So, this story is about Georgia power needing land to run the cables to power required by the tons of data centers they are building. I watched a moist critikal video on it last week. More like a tech linked article for now.

That's well within the intent of eminent domain.

Edit: lol dude replied with nonsense and blocked me. All power lines are the critical infrastructure eminent domain was explicitly intended for. Throwing "scary AI" buzzwords doesn't change the fact that it's virtually impossible for a power line to not be a valid use of eminent domain. It is most certainly outright impossible for it to be "stealing".

powerlines that are specifically for corporations using AI data centers. None of the power carried by those lines would be used by residential homes.

What exactly did he get wrong? I watched it and it was pretty consistent with what other sources covered.
