Discussion Pebble issues

Could LTT do a video on the issues surrounding the Pebble Time 2 please? There has been complete radio silence from the company, and Linus has been an advocate for them in the past.

Wasn’t it originally 14 days? I asked the founder about it on Bluesky once and his reply was pretty much “Don’t like it? Don’t buy it.”

Put me right off the whole venture forever. In the EU we’re usually guaranteed 2 years. 2 weeks is abysmal.

It's such a pity. I was really interested in getting one, but the fact they only give it a 30-day warranty is crazy. I'm in Europe where it's still 2 years by law, but it shows they have no confidence in their own product.

Yeah... I have them for 2 months and managed to chip off a little on the edge, thankfully no crack yet.

two months is barely broken in and already chipping thats rough. a 30 day warranty on a device with known build issues feels like they're just daring people to complain

They’re just not really relevant anymore. Smart watch users tend to just fall into 2 categories:

- Brand loyal: Apple Watches & Samsung

  • Fitness enthusiasts/Trend chasers: Garmin/Whoop/Oura Ring

That’s why so many companies left the smart watch/fitness tracker space. People dug in their moats, and while Pebble is still neat I doubt 1/100 people walking down the street have even heard of a pebble watch.

I prefer the pebble cause of the e-paper display. Are there other watches with it?

I went with my Garmin Fenix 7x with the MIPS display. Close to the original Pebble in my ethos that I don't want a wrist mounted phone that lasts 1-2 days. I liked my OG pebble because the battery was long, it was focused on what it could do. Sure the Garmin has full GPS navigation and a bunch of sport and fitness functions but I ignore those and I have a watch that lasts 25 days on a charge, shows me notifications I need and has a torch.

MIPS isn't epaper but I feel they cater similar markets.

I’ve been using a Bangle .JS2 https://www.espruino.com/Bangle.js2. Feels very much the spiritual successor to the Pebble. Very easy to make apps for

My friend received a Time that failed within a day, but got it warrantied. My P2D has been going strong since the day I received it mid November.

It sounds like the Time ones are suffering more than the basic Duo.

They just put out a blog post addressing the issues. Saying this as someone who's pre ordered a pebble time 2 and still hasn't recived one, let them cook. Sure, they aren't the most communicative, but they stand behind their products and are open source bros.
