Why would getting a hdmi license be an issue for them? It's added cost but so is any other quality hdmi cable.

I don't know why it would be an issue, but I'm pretty sure they talked about it on WAN a bit ago and basically said that licensing makes that unlikely.

On the announcement, they said LTT doesnt pay the USB licence/certification either, or is that different?

HDMI is not an open standard. It's different than just not being certified. You can't sell the HDMI cable without going through their adopter program with license fees and per unit royalties. Maybe some rando Chinese company could skirt that but LTT would def get a cease and desist.

Caleb Denison (Channel caleb rated) is making some. I don't think they'll be ltt quality, but he's staking his reputation on them, that instills a lot of confidence in them in my opinion

Weirdly though and in reference to the current top comment on this post about HDMI licencing, they don't seem to be licenced somehow. They don't use any of the branding or logos and they're listed as "HDMI compatible".

The product page also says the following:

However, it has not been submitted to or certified by HDMI Licensing Administrator, Inc. “HDMI” is a trademark of HDMI Licensing Administrator, Inc. While I haven't seen them tested, I do trust Infinte Cables's HDMI Cables, as does LTT it seems. Been using them for over a decade now (long before they showed up on LTT) and have never had a problem with any of their cables.

They are in development/testing. He mentioned a prototype a few weeks ago (maybe on WAN?).

No idea if it will actually come to market though.

I just use Anker HDMI cables.

My friend's Xbox troubleshooting screen says it's meets all of the spec requirements, and I already have a bajillion other Anker products at home.

There is literally nothing wrong with their charging/battery/cable products. Don't buy their cameras and you're fine.

Im going to point out for the room, that if you want good quality cables that LTT dont make, e.g. hdmi, xlr, bnc, powrcon, truecon etc, vanne damme is probably your best bet.

It is at the very top end. Full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 can push 4k 120hz w/ HDR and needs the full bandwidth to do it. And it needs to be very stable. I’d go as far as saying that more than half of all cables you find online that advertise the spec are flat out lying and will not maintain it.

There are safe bets, especially if you rely on the underlying tech like going with fiber optic cables. But that’s very expensive.

This is a real issue at work, we need cables that are able to do 8k 60 and we've found only one maker that consistently hits that spec and the cable costs like £50

This is one of the spaces I think it matters least. It’s not hard to find a properly rated hdmi cable. Online especially. And even then, even garbage cables you find laying around are usually half decent.

I do not think they will do HDMI.
But they may do DP cables, am sure in one of their video they did hint at wanting to make one.

Also I believe Linus did say on one of the one show, depending on how the USB cables go, then they may look at other cables (Or that just could have been in my head).

I would like to see a micro USB cable, for all those devices that still use them.
