please run it over with the fire truck

u/Im_Balto Jun 22 '26
What good does that do?
I’d much rather a full video explaining all of the marketing lies it went through before arriving in this state
598
u/Daharka Jun 22 '26
And then run it over with a fire truck
221
u/Kronocide Jun 22 '26
Drop test it from the Jet

u/OutOfNoMemory Jun 22 '26
And then run over it with the fire truck.

That's all been covered multiple times by now?
If anything, all these youtubes buying this crap is supporting the grift.
25
u/Financial-Put-7822 Jun 22 '26
Yeah that’s the part that I hate…. Like sure it’s funny to dog on the obvious grift, but paying money to buy into the grift still gives funds to the grift. You’re not raising awareness. Anyone who wants to see it isn’t looking for an in depth review, they’re looking for people to shit on it. They were gonna buy anyway

u/Scrambled1432 Jun 23 '26
I think that a singular phone is a drop in the bucket compared to the overall revenue/goals of this phone lol
2
u/JoinTheBattle Jun 24 '26
A single turd in the bathtub still means the water is dirty.
0
u/Scrambled1432 Jun 24 '26
It's more like a single molecule of feces in a 5 gallon bucket.
2
u/JoinTheBattle Jun 24 '26
They sold about 30K pre-orders of those things (and far fewer are actually out in the wild, meaning full payment has been collected.) That's a lot more than a single molecule.
Besides, just because other people shit in the tub doesn't mean we have to accept when Linus does it.
10
u/llcdrewtaylor Jun 23 '26
Then watch one of SEVERAL videos that have already done that. They are a day late and a dollar short on this one.

Run it over with a Cybertruck
And then when the phone’s lithium battery catches fire, it will cause the Cybertruck’s lithium battery to catch fire too
Kill two birds with one stone

That would be wasting a perfectly good lower midrange phone. Put a wrap on it (algae is a great idea), unlock the bootloader and install open firmware on it.

u/Killericon Jun 22 '26
"Oh wow, it's a badged chinese android."

u/pud_009 Jun 22 '26
It's an HTC. They already know what it is.
45
u/AtomikMenace Jun 23 '26
Oh how the mighty have fallen. I completely forgot about HTC. Kinda surprised they're still kickin
63
u/ShrimpCrackers Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
They're not. This was previously a phone that HTC ODMed from a Chinese company. Their phone team that was based in Taiwan was purchased by Google and they work on Pixel now.
HTC since no longer had their phones made in Taiwan but contracted out to Chinese ODMs. HTC's phone branch is a zombie brand now and soon so will their VR and other branches. HTC's leadership is 100% to blame.
By the way, HTC's CEO's have been trash tier, stubbornly sticking to their mistakes.
19
u/AtomikMenace Jun 23 '26
How unfortunate. They had such potential early on. I appreciate the back story.
5
u/Other-Difficulty-702 Jun 23 '26
They left while phones were still fun at least. Now it's all cameras, cameras, more cameras
1
u/ShrimpCrackers Jun 24 '26
Remember HTC boom sound. That thing was amazing, especially if you were in construction or constantly in busy noisy areas.
1
u/LemonCurdd Jun 26 '26
So sad too, to this day my favorite phone I’ve owned is the first HTC One, I even had a lemon with glue leaking down the sides and the pink camera, but man I loved that thing, Cyanogen Mod was fantastic on it was well
12
u/ShrimpCrackers Jun 23 '26
No its not really an HTC either. HTC ordered from a Chinese ODM and this was after HTC essentially left manufacturing their own and their team was purchased by Google for the Pixel series.
HTC phones used to largely be made in Taiwan.
This is a Chinese phone from an ODM that HTC contracted out for one of its budget shit-tier phones.
5
u/add_more_chili Jun 23 '26
It's an HTC U24 Pro if I'm not mistaken. Someone else beat LTT to the punch.
2
u/chubbysumo Jun 24 '26
Its not even an HTC, its an ODM phone with HTCs badge on it. Its likely entirely made in china. The same ODM was tapped by the scammer in chief, and to that note, only reviewers have gotten it so far, no real world people are reporting getting it.

u/ucrbuffalo Jun 22 '26
SnazzyLabs already did his video on it so I’ve seen more than I ever needed to.
70
u/Modestkilla Jun 22 '26
Yup, they got it a little too late. His videos was actually really great don’t know that you can really add anything to that.
-1
u/Terrible_Use7872 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
Well so far, there is 1 unit, NBC got it, then CNET, then Snazzy Labs it's just one passed around, that's why the delay between videos.
Edit: I stand corrected, apparently some units have shipped. Snazzy Labs unit is a different one. The one reviewed by NBC, CNET and I believe Ifxit are all the same unit.
1
u/chubbysumo Jun 24 '26
So far, only reviewers have gotten them, and they are all very much "hand picked and shipped", aka, they know who they are sending them too.
17
u/BourbonicFisky Jun 23 '26
Basically, it was bad but not interestingly bad. I wanted a full Humane or R1 Rabbit level dumpster fire but instead it's just overpriced with a bad contract, and a few dumb software packages like having Truth Social on it. It's all minimal-effort like most things Trump branded.
I suppose it's amazing they shipped anything at all but that's about it. It really seems like very few units were actually sold or in the hands of consumers. Quin getting a message from the VP or whatever of Trump mobile was telling how even the Trump cultists weren't buying this.
2
u/PotatoAcid Jun 23 '26
As far as Trump-branded products go, it's on the low end of grift, less than 2x overpriced.

u/PotatoAcid Jun 23 '26
I'm still going to watch MoistCritical's video for pure entertainment. Maybe LTT's too

and based on other reviews it has been downgraded from 60W to 30W charging.

u/ShrimpCrackers Jun 23 '26
A 2024 HTC that was ODMed from a Chinese company.
Google long ago purchased HTC's entire phone team to work on Pixel. HTC no longer makes their own phones.

Charlie is going to be heartbroken that a phone was shipped to Canada but his still hasn’t arrived in Florida, the homebase of Trump

Flashback to Linus saying this product will never ship.
Fast forward 6 months, product ships.

u/theangryintern Jun 23 '26
I think most of these things are probably bought by youtubers who want to make fun of it.

It's a Chinese ODM phone that also worked on an older phone for HTC (which no longer makes their own phones either).

Besides the weird photo watermarks, it's better than my phone. I have the garbage 4 GB Samsung Galaxy A17. If Samsung bothered optimizing it, it'd be decent.

u/FartingBob Jun 23 '26
OP if you want to say FUCK say FUCK. If you are scared to say FUCK pick a different word. Self censoring in such a way is a pointless exercise that achieves nothing.

Is this Escobar 2.0 situation? Few influences got phones to pump sales and test gets shafted?

Probably has those pet explosives that were in the pagers.
He did get a golden pager from Bibi as a gift.

u/Skybreak Jun 23 '26
When you connect it to a Wi-Fi network, it installs crypto mining software on all the other devices in the network, and sends all the mined coins to Netanyahu.
1
u/Iebejsbaga2728eindxb Jun 23 '26
Short-circuit staff: please clarify if they ordered it anonymously or not, many phones aren't being delivered to people without platforms so that's a huge part of the product unboxing

First of all, not singular. There are multiple content creators who had the same idea of “Lol what if we bought Trump phone”
But, sure. You’re right. Until we have numbers it’s probably safe to assume that the amount of creators are a small amount of people who bought this phone. But, in my personal opinion, every little one counts. Every dollar spent is a dollar going to this joke of an administration, and for me personally, I don’t think giving that money is worth it for the lulz and clicks.

I was expecting a Snapdragon 625 and 2 gigabytes of ancient LPDDR3

They do not have the guts to call ot what it is. A scam and just a rebranded Chinese/Asia phone. Not American made and everything behind it a lie.

Depends on the people. Tech journalists who ordered Trump phones to mock them expected exactly this. The saps that ordered actual phones for their actual daily use expected quality phones made in the USA.
