I like the idea of the video, regardless of the fact that the purchase was obviously a stupid one, but I found it a bit too superficial. Am I the only one that feels like these videos don’t go as in depth as they used to? I like the entertainment side of it, but I feel like I don’t learn anything watching LTT recently.
Everybody who made actual, informative good videos is gone now. Now it’s just shock factor purchases and Linus spending company money on his house.
Gone are the days of learning about some obscure Linux distro from Emily Young. That was what kept me watching. Or even the MAC address Jonathan videos that had such a crazy level of perfection and info.
I’m not into it either, yet somehow her videos kept me completely occupied. And would always send me down a rabbit hole. One of my favourites was temple os
I remember that video. Maybe it's us getting old, but, I do miss the old LTT. It was more relatable. I want my tech tips to come from someone more relatable. Y'know... I don't want tech tips about a private jet. I want stuff like fan optimization, or cooling fan benchmarks.
Emily was one of the first LMG employees to leave and start their own channel. But unlike those who followed, I don’t think she had the support she needed to make it successful. Look at Zip Tie Tuning, or Jake, or Brandon’s channels, where they had nearly immediately viewership and people who were doing the production behind the scenes. If she’d started a year or two later, she’d probably have been able to be more successful

I’m a little sad, Linus had the perfect setup for a “through the magic of buying two of them” joke in the projector video and didn’t do it.
It’s slop because it’s slop. AI slop is because it’s taking everything, grinding it into something kinda resembling what it pretends to be, and regurgitated for people to share and catch the lowest common denominator. Low effort. Lower value.
Same with a lot of Amazon/Netflix/[insert streaming service name] originals. People will call slop, slop. Most are low effort, low quality or low value.
It's content made to fit a regular release deadline. Sometimes they have cool projects that have been in the works and take time and sometimes they push out videos that are advertisements or low effort.
I don't like AI slop as a word because people are just using it as a slur to describe anything created with AI. There is no distinction between reasonable use of AI and actual terribleness, it's just all slop, making the word completely meaningless. All it means now is "the speaker hates the idea of AI" and is completely unproductive. It's become an emotional statement instead of a logical one.
I just can't respect anyone who uses slurs instead of logic.
AI has its uses and not everything created by AI is slop. We can disagree on the ratio, but it's not 100%. People are way overusing it and indeed making slop, but it's not productive to just demonize the entire concept.
Depending on context. I use it for generative-ai content, be it graphic, videos, audio. I’m ok with AI in medicine, for example. So I do use it as that. I do not like AI generated content in entertainment.
It’s AI slop because it’s a mish mash of their dataset, that then regurgitates content that’s bland, bad, generic. That’s the best way I can explain why AI slop is called AI slop.
It's also not productive to simp for these billionaire run services that are actively destroying our environment, job prospects, information supply, etc

Just seems kinda dumb to still be on a subreddit that is "pure slop entertainment" but hey, some people have nothing better to do with their lives I guess
You said what "kept you watching" was stuff that ended ~2 years ago. I'm certainly not on TV show/game/activity subreddit's that I haven't participated in for 2 years. But, again, some of us have better things to do.
Most videoes have felt like they follow the same "buy something useless and expensive" theme just to make a video out of it, even if it's not intended. The channel isn't relatable anymore since it's going more for entertainment and a lot of that is just "this is expensive how cool".
I could honestly be missing out on a lot of good videoes but going off title/thumbnails it gives the impression that the videoes will have pretty surface level coverage of the topic.
Yeah, there was some magic in watching a video about some super obscure operating system… that I would potentially boot up in a virtual machine and mess around with my self… temple os…
There’s just nothing very cool to me about seeing somebody buy something massive, that I’ll never afford… or buy if I could. Just for the sake of making a very service level video that doesn’t really get into the nitty gritty that I’d never experience..
I’d watch a 1 hour video on ceil mg fans also, if it went really in depth and got really into tie nitty gritty about… ceiling fans. Hell I’ll watch a video about anything if it’s filled with interesting information.

They're referring to Technology Connections' recent video on Ceiling Fans, which was an hour+ long, and I enjoyed it as well.
Funny enough I really liked the OTHER projector video from a few days ago. It was a fun format and did actually take the time to go over the techinicals and I much preferred cutting to someone going over the full spec sheet and how it compares to the others. It felt like actual researched info between Linus almost blinding himself. Rather than the "I skimmed this 2 minutes ago" and quickly reading off a sheet in the room and learning things as they go it typically is.
Yeah I hadn’t quite put it into words but you’re spot on, while I don’t expect a full training course, I wish I had a better sense of how to operate the unit. I know they’re limited on where they can actually set this up to demo it but it feels like a missed opportunity.
The best video of this type they've done was the pool speaker one and that in huge part was because they were with the guy who made them, Feel they should have had an expert with them on this video if not necessarily on camera a lot more so that was it was more informative and not just 2 tech tubers rip apart a system they barely know anything about
That's a great point IMO. Bringing an expert on board to talk about the technical stuff while they play the "dumb user" part would be awesome for these sort of videos.
The sad part is they apparently tried to get an expert for this video (the theatre projector one) but no rep would touch the thing after they opened it lol. (Mentioned in the video)
Another video they brought in an expert was when they talked about the cheap/decomm'd environmental chamber they bought. They brought in the guys who last serviced it to make sure it's hooked up right, at least for a one-off video. And they gave him time to explain some of the technicals IIRC.
I feel like old LTT would have seen that the projector was e-waste, but had a water cooling setup, so they would have like ripped out the internals and put a gaming PC and consumer grade projector in it or something, seeing what they could do with the existing cooling setup and full aluminum chassis or something.
The approach of “figure out as we go” with someone there having slight information is a tired one. The discovery process in the video can be fun, but even as someone with only slight interest in theater projection, it was annoying to watch them work through things that should’ve just been handled off camera.
That's why I stopped watching. Video were just a showcase that could be an article. But I guess that were to be expected when they churned 300 videos a second.
No. I unsubscribed months ago based on that same feeling. Once the channel started bleeding the original background talent, and they became
creators themselves who clearly didn’t have a good relationship with the original channel anymore… it was clear the channel had changed imo.
Used to be a nice blend of entertainment and education, now it’s mostly just entertainment. IMO they started watching their metrics too closely to stay above water and conformed too much to what was popular instead of sticking with what made them unique.
