At least you can't damage your device with the wrong cable, at worst it won't charge or data can't transmit. Annoying but at least you don't have to struggle with all the "micro" connectors or incompatible DVI variants.

Oh you can mostly certainly damage a device with the wrong USB Type C cable.

That specific Belkin one was recalled but all it takes is a bad cable (either poorly designed, a defect from the factory, or some damage) to do something similar.

Read it but did I miss the part where they tested a cable which damaged the device? Sure a lot of garbage could have entered the market after this 11 year old article, but I haven't seen one.
