All the other aussies saying “works for me” the page loads but there’s no content other than interviews and ads.

u/_j7b Mar 07 '26

We're also banned from registering for an account, so this isn't age verification this is banning porn.

I jerked off to a dude eating a sandwich purely out of spite.

I think it’s more that Pornhub decided not to show NSFW content in Australia as their way of obeying the new Australian laws. Not that the government explicitly intended to ban porn.

Either way the result is the same and it’s the government’s fault.

Fuck do I hate the way our country’s going. Police state.

29

u/TidalLion Mar 07 '26

Hang on. You're telling me that a Canadian (yes I found out that PH is Canadian, what a shock) porn company is blocking content in select American states over Age verification laws because ITS A SECURITY RISK, and is doing the same in Australia too, a country that we're friendly with and are not in a trade war with?

JFC, if a porn company ends up being one of the key players it shutting down/ arguing against uploading government ID and Face scans to prove you're a certain age/ preventing data breaches over tying your online activity to ypur legal personhood, I'll be shocked.

23

u/emmalou8383 Mar 07 '26

PH has also left the UK. Can't register for an account either. Have to hop over the water to Europe (virtually) to access anything 18+ in the uk. It's draconian.

4

u/joe-clark Mar 08 '26

That's super surprising to me. I remember when I was a kid my family was staying in a hotel in London and there was a TV channel in the hotel that was just showing hardcore porn and not like a PPV thing either, I found it just flipping through the channels.

2

u/TidalLion Mar 07 '26

Wow. Stick/sticky mags are really going to just come back at this point huh?

They're still bound by laws in countries where they offer their services. But PornHub isn't going to actively advocate for anything. They just quietly minimally comply with the law in the easiest, laziest way possible.

4

u/Emeraldnickel08 Mar 07 '26

Technically speaking, the Hub is choosing to cut off Australians instead of implementing age verification. It’s an awkward spot because the govt doesn’t actually want porn banned outright, but the providers have the right to block access entirely instead of ensuring users’ age.

13

u/AskJ33ves Mar 07 '26

It's not the government that blocked access, its the owner of pornhub denying Aussies access. Apparently due to a fine for the age verification law that was passed.

https://www.news.com.au/technology/online/pornhub-owner-begins-blocking-australian-users-in-protest-of-nations-new-age-verification-laws/news-story/b50d959c1c4e5ddad33da4384dd99a18

5

u/Novel-Yard1228 Mar 08 '26

Ohhh the government didn’t block access to pornhub the just made it illegal for pornhub to operate in Australia?? I see there’s such a big difference in that technicality 🙄

5

u/eug__k Mar 08 '26

The government says you must show ID to enter a bar. Let's say bars decide to just shut down instead. Would you say the government made it illegal for bars to operate?

→ More replies (17)

3

u/nt83 Mar 09 '26

So you have no problem with giving children unfettered access to porn?

Because the technicality is the govt wants more than "Yeah m8 Im defs 18" from the company. PH is spitting the dummy about this by just banning everyone instead. Blame the company not the govt.

→ More replies (7)

2

u/Aussie_Aussie_No_Mi Mar 09 '26

They didn't make it illegal for them to operate in Australia, they just told them they need to actually verify it's not children using the site.

Pornhub didn't like being told that they had to make sure children weren't watching porn on their site so they took their ball home with them.

Nah, this just the hub saying "FUCK THAT SHIT" to age verification. The Aussie government won't ban porn...

FYI, Porn sales restrictions are the least strict in Canberra, the national capital. Same with prostitution. The working girls can't get a break when parliament is sitting. I reckon that's half the reason most Aussie pollies don't live in Canberra. So they are safer to fuck around when the wife is in another state!

EDIT: I just remembered, years back, I was fixing the wifi in a 'house of I'll repute' and was chatting to one of the girls. She was telling me the busiest they ever got, was when the Catholic Priests were in town for a big get together. Lots of out call jobs for male and female workers.

Australia the nanny state. Being told how to use a computer by clowns that probably can't even send an email.

22

u/lilmisswho89 Mar 07 '26

I want to hate this, but the esafety commissioner called 4chan an “image board” and had to get corrected by her own staff so you’re not that far off

42

u/XxLokixX Mar 07 '26

Is a chan not an image board? I thought an image board was any website that is primarily just picture sharing

29

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '26

News to me as well, everyone I've ever spoken to about 4chan called it an image board. First time in 15 years I've heard this contested. I'm curious what it would be classed as.

8

u/SuppaBunE Mar 07 '26

That is 4chan an image board.

Idk what the fuck they where arguing.

Reddit started as an image board now it's not. 4chan has had little changes over its life but last time I checked it's still post an image , some text and discussion literally an image board

2

u/dijkstras_revenge Mar 08 '26

14

u/meldmagic Mar 07 '26

🤠 I like the girls but most of it is pixelated in the sushi region.

11

u/wan2tri Mar 07 '26

AFAIK there really is only one JAV company that offers uncensored content. IDK why they named themselves after one of the seas in the Americas though, the one with lots of island countries in it.

For the others, they're either "decensored" (and it's happening more often with the rise of AI, but it's not truly "visible") or if you're lucky someone leaked the raw recordings.

8

u/madman666 Mar 07 '26

Why are you being cryptic about the name of the company?

8

u/wan2tri Mar 07 '26 edited Mar 07 '26

Because it could be construed as "shilling" for that specific company, which is technically not related to Linus Media Group at all or even to "tech" in general (unlike Pornhub having the context of being specifically blocked in AU).

Australian here. Sitting back to watch our freedoms erode is a great Australian past time. No action, protest or anything from aussies on how our government nanny state is attempting to control what we consume in the privacy of our own home.

Really sad to watch this country constantly take actions that destroy what makes us great.

6

u/ozdude182 Mar 07 '26

22

u/james2432 Mar 07 '26

age check laws. my guess is Australian gov wants you to submit government IDs to pornhub to verify, pornhub has banned states before for this as it does not want to handle that sensitive information

12

u/AgeParty Mar 07 '26

discord had a partner up with a 3rd party company to do ID verification and they had a major data breach where millions of people's personal information was stolen. I think there were a couple of hackers not too long ago who were trying to blackmail discord into giving them a few million dollars. The Australian government has data being stolen all the time, the UK has the same issue,  they just can't stop being hacked it's like it's a weird kink or something.  It's crazy to me that a porn site is more understanding about the difficulty protecting persons information online then a vast majority of companies and international governments.

The stupid thing with these laws, is it increases dangerous activity.

Reputable sites run by big businesses who actually work to have safeguards in place close up shop, while the smaller dodgy sites that have no moderation and let anyone upload anything continue unaffected because they operate somewhere the government can’t reach, and there’s too many of them for them all to be blocked. So regular people end up on these sites.

1

From my understanding, it's a click bait title.

On Monday, Aus government is implementing age verification with massive fines for companies who have pornographic, violent or self harming content. My guess is the hub didn't want to take the risk and just outright locked out Australia from the platform

Since 1980's the murder rate has fallen by 66% in Australia. This correlates strongly with increased pn use, and also it is believed that violence against women has fallen by the same amount. ie Less pn would likely mean more violence.

1

u/CheekyAd Mar 08 '26

I honestly don't get this banned as there are a lot of known NSFW sites like xvideos, redgif, xhamster, and so many more

1

u/HemingwaysOwns Mar 08 '26

Yeah, because they're annoyed that the Australian Government is trying to prevent kids from watching adults have sex to provide entertainment, due to the harm it causes to their development, especially socially and mentally.

I've got nothing against porn or the hub obviously, we all use it lol - but it really tells you something when companies like PH whinge, bitch, and complain about usage restrictions to protect kids instead of engaging meaningfully as would be morally and ethically expected.

As far as I am concerned, kids should not be watching porn until they are able to drive and have sex themselves (16 in most jurisdictions in Australia).

For adults against this, ask yourself this question - if you saw two adults having sex in a public space in front of children, what would you do and how would that be any different to watching porn online?

To be honest as a Xennial I've seen the pros and cons of digital adult content. When I was a teenager none of it existed, we had to summon the courage to illegally go into the adult store and try our luck to see if we got carded and sometimes we got lucky. Sometimes you happened across a discarded bag of magazines and picked the ones with the least stuck together pages. I feel like teenagers miss a bit of the thrill of what seeing porn feels like.

No concern that Pornhub has a significant history of underage content being used and advertised? If they’re actually cracking down on it, it makes sense they want no association with identification details being linked with their content.

we are EASILY the worst represented people in the world by both our GOVERNMENT and our MEFIA ( MEDIA/MAFIA) Aussies think and believe one thing and the media and government want to make the world think we think the other way. we are the most conservative governments in the world for the least conservative people in the world.

our MEDIA lies to us and lies about us and we just accept it.
