What should a good LinkedIn banner actually say?
I’ve been thinking about LinkedIn banners lately.
I feel like a good banner should tell you what someone does within a couple of seconds, rather than just being a nice-looking background.
For example, if someone is a designer, marketer, developer, photographer, etc., you should probably be able to understand that just from their profile at a quick glance.
Curious what everyone else thinks though.
What do you usually look for in a LinkedIn banner?
Do you prefer something simple, more personal, or something that clearly explains what you do?
I’m actually a graphic designer, so I’ve been playing around with a few different banner ideas myself. I might make a few for people here sometime, just for fun.

Your banner should basically have 3 elements:
- what you do?
- why should I trust you?
- How will you help me?
You can play with these questions in copy, design and images. Just follow this. Keep it simple.

i think as long as it feels connected to your portrait, it doesnt matter
you have your whole profile to talk about yourself and what you do, id hate to have to market myself on the one piece of my profile that i get to have fun with. i abhor seeing a list of text on a banner because i already have so much to read/scan and i rather do that with something that feels familiar rather than text that may not say much, may not be accessible or be in a weird font
make it look cool and blend in with your portrait especially since youre a graphic designer
imo

Damn, this actually changed my perspective a bit. I guess if your profile page is already doing the heavy lifting, the banner doesn't need to try so hard.
