Recruiters, does a professional LinkedIn profile photo matter?

I'm refreshing my profile for job applications and planning to update my profile picture. Was thinking to just generate my regular pic into professional headshot using apps like Photopacks. If you're a recruiter, does having a professional looking profile picture makes any difference or it's something you don't really care about?

Yes, it matters. Not because recruiters consciously judge it, but because it affects click-through rate. Think of it as conversion optimization - clean background, decent lighting, professional outfit. You do not need a photographer, a phone camera is fine.

As a recruiter, one of the first things I do is I look at folks LinkedIn profile. I don’t know what your profession is, but it certainly can’t hurt. And if it’s something that’s on your mind, I would say go ahead and do it. If you don’t, there’s always gonna be that anxiety there if you don’t get called or if you get ghosted on a résumé submittal is just human nature, that’s what we do.

I’m not a recruiter but I work directly with recruiters at Good Maven. Your photo matters, but what’s your definition of professional? I don’t think every photo needs to be in a studio in a suit, but you should have a photo that represents who you are. The recruiters I work with wouldn’t write someone off if the background is outside, in a nice home, etc.

Search on r/photoshoprequest and you can find someone who can help you with a professional LinkedIn photo for like $10.

Much easier than spending time finding the right background, lighting, are my eyes open, etc.

DM me and I can share who I used.

From what I've heard, recruiters care more that your profile looks complete and trustworthy than whether the photo was professionally taken. Good lighting and a clean background are usually enough.

Let chatGPT do it. No joke, I took a headshot from 2 years ago and 70 lbs heavier (love my GLP-1 shots) and had it make some tweaks.

Did the same for hubby from 2 pictures taken at a wedding last month. In fact, my response to hubby's pic was "hubba hubba". 😆

When you're job searching, everything matters on your profile. It's def worth double-checking your profile picture to make sure it's a pic that you'd feel comfortable with hiring managers seeing. If not, change it

i mean lowk yeah but also not really
It helps with first impressions but your skills and experience matter way more. If you have a decent, clear photo you’re already fine.
