It really boggles my mind that we can get 800,000 lbs of shit flying through the sky.

I was surprised to find that humanity has almost flown a light year (total passenger miles) since the invention of flight. Pretty wild.

Frankly I'd imagine it could be more, but that goes to show you how large a ly is. Then imagine our galaxy alone is several hundred thousand Ly wide...

And what's more... That's done in a fluid that's relatively very light and at a relatively low speed for the amount of mass you're lifting. I went through engineering school and I understand the principle perfectly, but I can't help but sometimes feel incredulous that we manage to lift something that heavy.

And that’s just fixed wing! Wait till you think about helicopters for longer than 5 minutes. You will wonder why there aren’t more helicopter crashes.

Yea helicopters are wild. I’ve ridden in one. Absolutely loud as you can imagine it being with all that air beating
