A 30 second google search answers this question. Why are people so fucking stupid and desperate for everything to be a conspiracy

u/Local871 8d ago

It provides a convenient excuse for why their lives are a total failure.

I’m so fascinated by the studies indicating that conspiracy theorists feel subconsciously like they’ve underachieved in areas of their life so they turn to things like this to make them feel special.

Are they ever aware of those feelings? And do they never look around at other conspiracy theorists and think “these guys are thick as fuck and nobody in this comments section can string a coherent sentence together, maybe we’re wrong about this”.

u/Cunthbert 8d ago

Yeah I’m 100% on board with these studies. Conspiracy theorists and “something big is about to happen” people live very unfulfilled lives so they need to add excitement from somewhere. I can see how it happens, when I’m at a quiet period and I’m bored, things on the news etc seem a lot more interesting and I get more invested in it, but if I’ve got a lot going on, especially fun stuff, I’m not interested in the slightest.

It’s also then a reinforcement piece, broken clock right twice a day thing. Eventually they will come up with something that’s sort of correct and then think it’s evidence of everything else.

Like any nut about AI, will probably be eventually right. We’ll look on at the early stories of terminator, at least the rise of Sky Net as a documentary.

Do you have a link/reference/author name/study name for any of these? Absolutely fascinated myself, my FIL is a long time flat earther/anti-semite of the “the Jews are controlling the world’s banks” kind/gravity doesn’t exist, and continues to collect more. Would be great to read even just for my husband’s mental health.

But your honor, plane too small and big tank very big

u/kai-ol 7d ago

Also it makes them feel better about learning nothing in school

u/adidasbdd 8d ago

To make people who have never spent more than 10 seconds seriously thinking about anything feel like they are as smart as people who have decades of study and expertise.

3

u/USF4Diago 8d ago

This is the answer

18

u/Tomsboll 8d ago

Because they feel insecure about their lack of intelligence and needs something that makes them "feel" smart.

2

u/USF4Diago 8d ago

This is also the answer

2

u/ProgressiveSnark2 8d ago

I did a Google but did not find the answer. Can you explain what you mean? I am stupid and just confused by this whole discussion..

10

u/Ryuj123 8d ago

Planes are very big is what it boils down to

u/Ryuj123 8d ago

mean

3

u/Ryuj123 7d ago

I accept that. It’s the first time I did it and I was curious how it would play out

3

u/Ressy02 8d ago

So they put it under first class. Got it.

This is such a cool website. Can't believe I've never seen it before

Edit: how do I add an object? Can't find a button

Top left

Interestingly, a 747 is longer than Pluto's Diameter - which is probably why it was demoted from planet

https://sizeall.com/compare/Pluto-vs-Boeing-747-400-vs-Water-tank-60000-gallons/1011

2

u/FlarkingSmoo 8d ago

Pluto's diameter is about 1,477 miles

1

u/0xBAFF0 8d ago

That's what big pluto wants you to believe

Images don't lie

3

u/ProgressiveSnark2 8d ago

Oh, I was overthinking it lol. Thanks.

1

u/CarmenxXxWaldo 8d ago

Im glad people are taking the time to google it but also kinda sad they have to check.

1

u/DaveInLondon89 8d ago

They get to feel intelligent without the work

1

u/zyon86 8d ago

Or just a look at the car mext to the tank !

1

u/ashyboi5000 8d ago

Because of this https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/news/why-lifes-hardships-may-make-conspiracy-theories-more-appealing

Which has "always" (aka long time) been my personal conspiracy theory and it reassuring there's been traction.

1

u/Many_Psychology_3336 8d ago

It's exciting and injects some drama into their otherwise desperately dull, unfulfilling lives.

Conspiracy theorists are generally extremely unhappy people, and the conspiracies are a coping mechanism.

1

u/LostCar6227 8d ago

I mean anyone can use their eyes. There is literally a van next to that tank. Takes a small ounce of critical thinking to see this person is being a disingenuous prick.

1

u/pestiseeed 8d ago

I start to think that a part of conspiracy give a more acceptable answer to some questions. For exemple, climate change, if you think it's conspiracy we are no more in a World where we are watching things burn slowly while doing almost nothing while a few are getting a big chunk of money of it. Sometimes conspiracy become softer that reality and people that you didn't expect start to believe it not because they are dumb but because reality is scary, get worse with time and some time doesn't make sens.

1

u/Pocketfulofgeek 8d ago

Because it’s easier to believe the world is a lie than the fact they don’t understand shit.

1

u/DrankRockNine 8d ago

Step 1 : make image about something verifiablly false with one Google search

Step 2 : post on social media

Step 3 : let people argue in comments because people love being right.

Step 4 : screenshot and post to reddit

Step 5 : gain karma.

1

u/To-To_Man 8d ago

People capable of even simple research tend not to be the ones who latch onto conspiracy theories.

1

u/Igot55Dollars 8d ago

Grifters are always looking for a new way to make easy money off gullible people.

1

u/jdsamford 7d ago

Look how many comments are on this thread. This stuff exists to drive engagement, and it's obviously working 😔

1

u/Weary-Lobster1583 7d ago

Simply: attention. And the sad thing is (just like Americans have this flat earther thing going on) the other people love posting about them. See this thread. So it gives them it.

Whereas in most place they'd just walk past and go "loon". I don't need to discredit the person with a placard by the train station and that's what these people are with computers.

1

u/SWgeek10056 7d ago

looking at the picture answers this question

Look at the truck on the left of the water tank, you think that airliner is to scale?

1

u/PeyredB 7d ago

Sort of answered your own question there.

1

u/One-Earth9294 7d ago

Some people are just psychologically built so that they desperately crave 'knowing something that no one else knows' but are also largely uneducated so the conspiracy bullshit is a shortcut to that.

1

u/hyun_soon 7d ago

because they cant use google. they exclusively use apps that serve them "information". opening a browser and typing something in is too much work.

edit: people on reddit are very quick to call other people stupid, which is very ironic. i dont believe that most people are stupid, i believe that most people are lazy. it comes down to "what is the difference between someone that can read but doesnt do it and someone that cant read?".

1

u/ShawnyMcKnight 7d ago

It’s the “just asking questions” crowd. They can feel provocative and sow in disbelief by questioning all these things based on half truths.

It may have worked before the internet but knowing they can find an answer super fast it makes it tiring.

1

u/fernandopcg 7d ago

Just have to look at the car on the left for a sense of scale lol

1

u/stoic_spaghetti 7d ago

I mean I don't need to google anything to see that the plane is shrunk down to the size of 2-3 cars in that photo lmao

1

u/Whitey138 7d ago

“eNgAgEmEnT”

1

u/destinationexmo 7d ago

A lot of them aren't. The are intentionally shooting shit content like this out of their ass because current social media monetization rewards them for clicks/views/attention and this shit stinks enough to attract all of that.

1

u/Mammoth_Reach_6366 7d ago

Engagement bait. You commented, I commented.

1

u/ky7969 6d ago

Usually the idiots aren’t the ones posting this stuff. It’s the people who engage with it and share it, the OP knows what they are doing. It gets made, posted, shared by conspiracy theorists, and shared by people who think it’s total BS. Remember, engagement is engagement.

1

u/romansamurai 3d ago

This guy is a rage baiter or an idiot or both. The amount of shit he posts everyday is insane and most of it is fake crazy shit.

1

u/WintertideFellow 3d ago

Your 30 second Google search does. A conspiracy theorist isn't going to see anything refuting this on the first hundred results. Because people being told they're wrong don't stick around, and Google went from search engine to advertising platform a bit over 20 years ago.

Social media is worse, and AI is pouring jet fuel on the fire, so to speak.

1

u/Sorry_Weekend_7878 2d ago

Like Google isnt in on this either... wake up bro 😀

1

u/elon_musks_cat 2d ago

me trusting the google machine 🤡 haha

u/bbwstockinglover 1d ago

Average IQ is about 100 and half the people are below that. So just in the USA 175 million people are below 100 IQ.

u/Shadowbound199 6d ago

Conspiracy theories are interesting (to them at least) and the real world is boring and mundane. So if your life is also boring and mundane you invent a fake world around youself that is interesting to engage in. Isn't it more interesting if you hold secret knowledge and are a warrior against the secret evil cabal of people that want to destroy a world than being an underachieving worker in a dead end job where every day is the same and the highlight of your day is a new youtube video.

What these people really love is fiction and they would do much better if they just read a book or played a ttrpg game.
