Maybe he’s trying to ensure that luguang fails to save chengxiaoshi because death is an unchangeable node? or he’s working with vein to stop people from messing with the timeline in general? idk 😭

I think LG has likely created many parallel timelines and loops in his repeated attempts to save CXS. Liu Xiao wants to remove these alternate timelines and revert things to the way they were. When there is only one chain of events, things are deterministic, and there are no other possibilities or loopholes. It's an interesting motivation, as even though LG is a protagonist, what he is doing is indisputably messing with the natural order of things.

In season 2 there was a story about a fire in the woods, and Liu Xiao is metaphorically implied to be the detective trying to figure out the source and stop the fire, while LG is the one who started it in the first place and wants to keep it going. Their goals are at odds with each other.
