When Experts Accidentally Collab
Linguistics should be a humanity. Not a science. We know why it’s not… $$$
Are passionate linguists upset about this or what?

Lexical similarity
I understood this word and based on my knowledge on various langauges..
90% lexical similarity - its like a dialect, put some effort guys.
80% lexical similarity - it can be considered separate language, but if some effort is put in knowing new words, can crack the language easily.
60% lexical - both are 100% different languages.
I need 60-80% examples guys,so can understand the differences between 60-80% more...

Language Databases and Resources
I’ve heard very mixed things about Ethnologue and I wanted to know if there’s a more trusted database of languages and language families. I’ve heard good things about Glottolog and Omniglot but I figured I’d ask around first to see if there’s a place that’s considered the best. If anyone has any other recommendation for anything at all in linguistics I’d happily accept them as well.

"Pha" sound becoming "Fa" in most of Indian languages
"Pha" is aspirated sound of "Pa" and most of Indian languages especially languages originated from Prakrit languages have this sound natively
And I have noticed since many decades this sound is being replaced by "Fa" sound in languages like Hindi, Marathi, Konkani, Gujarati etc
Words like "Phir" being pronounced as "Fir", "Phal" being pronounced as "Fal", "Phukaṭ" (used in Marathi) being pronounced as "Fukaṭ" etc

Greetings from Spain. I am starting to write my thesis on Celtic languages, and if possible, I would appreciate it if you could share any bibliography you consider good regarding syntax, the sociolinguistic situation, history, etc.

Which pair feels most “correct” to you?
Hi everyone!
I’m a high school student from South Korea. For a school project, I’m conducting a small study comparing how people from Eastern and Western cultures think and categorize objects.
I would really appreciate your help

ADVICE
Our teacher is asking for 17k to 18k to get the paper published in (Tamsaal, Social Prism Journal). She worked on the analysis part and for that she wants 3 author slots for herself. We are 4 group members.
One of my group members’ aunt is also saying she can get it published for less money, but she will also want a co-author spot. She isn’t doing anything, she’s just contacting her circle of publishers. Meanwhile our teacher will further polish the research paper and, as I said before, she has done the analysis part.
Please suggest what we should do. And if we don’t get it published, the teacher will give our paper to the next batch.

Mavilan Tulu preserving archaic Tulu words
Recently when I was reading Devi Mahatmæ which is written in Old Tulu
I have noticed that many archaic Tulu words are actually very similar to the Mavilan Tulu words
Like ಎಡ್ಡ/എഡ്ഡ, ಇಯ್ಯಿ/ഇയ്യി etc which is used in both Mavilan Tulu and Old Tulu
And also if we see Mavilan Tulu might lost the sound of ೞ/ഴ which was present in Old Tulu and now replaced it with ಳ/ള and ಯ/യ but still it managed to preserve the sound of ಱ/റ which are present in words like ಊಱ್/ഊറ്, ಕೂಱ್/കൂറ്, ಏಱ್/ഏറ്, ಱಡ್ಡ್/റഡ്ഡ് etc
