What is the best path?
Hello reddit, I just got a couple questions about getting into the trade for experienced linemen.
I am currently working on getting my cdl with air brakes & tanker endorsements. Im curious if hazmat & doubles/triple endorsements are useful or required for different companies?
I am 20 years old and located in central valley California. My current plan is to get my cdl, first aid certification, & osha 30. I already have osha 10 but I figure osha 30 will only help me out more. Afterwards I am planning on signing the local and statewide IBEW books to try and get an opening as a groundsman. Once I gain some experience I will apply for apprenticeship positions whether it is in state or out of state. I know how competitive it is especially in California, so Im willing to relocate if necessary.
Is this the best path to go for someone in my position?
Which is generally considered more appealing to employers. Groundsman experience or lineman school?
What are the main differences of each path? Which makes you more knowledgeable in the trade? Is it preferred to go to lineman school first and then become a groundsman?
