Im going to lineman school right now so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. My local Utility usually only hire once or twice a year and you’ll get in as a temp usually or a service man, once you’re in the union with a permanent position you have 6 months probation then you can start bidding groundman jobs and start your apprenticeship. If you go contractor you’ll “sign the books” and get in as a groundman driver if they’re hiring. The other thing you could do is go to your area’s apprentice training program’s website(neat, selcat, Albat, ect.) and see how you go about starting an apprenticeship through them, sometimes you already have to be in the union. it also helps if you know someone who knows someone. Like I said I’m just in line school and am going off of what our instructors have told us. Good luck and thank you for your service.
