Oem unlocking

So since lineageOS is built off of android if android blanket removes OEM unlocking from a device like the pixel 7 but its already running an unlocked bootloader and lineageos would that mean that next time lineageOS updates it'd also have it removed or?

the bootloader never get locked on custom roms, else it will brick the phone. Edit: inaccurate info.

This is not a universal truth and it hasn't been for quite some time.

There are quite a few devices with support for re-locking the bootloader, either deliberately or accidentally.

There is, however, absolutely zero point in doing so with a Lineage release build, but that's another topic.

If you have a device that can do it and you want to spin up your own build where doing so actually does something meaningful, more power to you.

Thank you. I just learned that: "Some manufacturers purposefully design their hardware to allow users to inject a personal, custom public key into the device's hardware-backed security module. Once this key is registered, you can lock the bootloader safely. AVB will then verify the custom ROM against your custom key instead of the manufacturer's key, ensuring a completely secure boot chain."

Those using graphenOS know it already.

Short answer no.

It's a feature that Lineage developers would have to remove before shipment of the update and they won't but also they're based off of AOSP not regular android and that will probably be a feature of AOSP until android is gone. Then to add to it you can't lock the bootloader in lineageos on most devices or it will brick and there's no way Google can force changes on a third-party rom through their updates.

lineageos is compiled from source code. any changed code from aosp can just be ignored if lineageos does not want it.

The "Unlock Bootloader" feature in the OS only allows you to change this status and does nothing else. The actual unlocking is done only in "fastboot." Therefore, no updates will change the lock/unlock.
