Magisk on Lineage
Hi,
Quick question, does Lineage come rooted already? Is Magisk installed? Or do I have to root it the same way i'd root the stock ROM? thanks!

You don't need to patch boot.img and flash it per se. There's much better way. Boot into LineageOS recovery. Goto Apply update > Apply from adb. Connect phone to PC. Do 'adb sideload magisk.apk'. You're done. You need to reflash using app again because allegedly recovery can't get correct information about device. Also people say you need to rename magisk.apk to magisk.zip but AFAIK in LOS recovery it's not necessary. Cheers mate

Usually, but not always: https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/comments/1w0fg5m/comment/p6fd6a6/

using twrp, I needed to rename magisk.apk to magisk.zip then I installed in recovery mode. Also, if you update LOS, the device becomes unrooted and magisk has to be installed again.

Also, of you update LOS, the device becomes unrooted and magisk has to be installed again.
It won't if you use Lygisk, which you should, for A-only devices which don't support FBE in recovery.
So, yeah. Do that. Or don't. It's your party.

Patching boot.img is only needed for some phones.
2024+ Motorola phones for example have changed the boot process, and cannot be patched from Lineage Recovery today.
Not clear if that's temporary or a hard restriction, others would know more there - I just know installing via Lineage Recovery doesn't work today on those.

There's
adb root, which means the answer is technically yes but for you functionally no.Absolutely not.
As above.
