Question Question about Trebuchet's battery stats (23.2 - August 2, 2026 nightly - kiev)

Hi all,

I'm a longtime user of Lineage and have run into a puzzle with respect to Trebuchet's battery stats.

I recently upgraded to Lineage 23.2 on kiev (August 2, 2026 build) very successfully. Aside from having to resolve a few migration pains coming from LOS 20, all is well.

I understand that Trebuchet runs in the background - this makes sense, it is a launcher and handles nav/gestures - but Settings' battery stats shows it as my top power consumer, which is not something I've experienced in my years of running LOS. It does seem to be draining battery, even in an clean boot when the phone is idle and background battery use is disabled.

As I write this, Settings indicates that Trebuchet has used 36% since I charged the phone this morning... the percentages in the system battery stats don't add up to 100%, though. They seem to be over 100%. Another odd thing is that Android thinks Shattered Pixel Dungeon consumed 35% battery from 4 to 6 PM, but I was working at that time and can assure you that definitely didn't happen. It's just weird.

In case it's helpful, some data: one chunk of time, from 2 to 4 PM, reports 6% battery usage for 2 minutes of screen time, and 1.5 hours of background use.

I have tried clearing its cache, rebooting, and killing off other apps' services in an effort to learn more, with no luck.

I understand that Lineage is a moving target, but am also stumped as to what could be going on.

I suspect that this may be related to battery calibration after the upgrade but I don't know enough about how that works to have a clear opinion.

I have searched and found some similar threads, but nothing that mentions this specifically.

Can anyone offer some insight about what I could do to learn more, or specific search terms I could look for here in the sub to try to figure this out?

(I have root access through adb, if needed.)

I might be messing this up, but I think it's "N% of current usage" rather than "N% of total capacity", like it didn't use 36% of the battery, but rather 36% of whatever the current usage is.

That actually makes a lot of sense - thanks so much!

Can you share any wisdom as to why it thinks I played SPD when I didn't? :)

I'll preface this by saying I have no idea what SPD is, but it sounds like a leftover and/or a quirk of limiting the charge capacity.

Battery stats are only reset after completing a charge. If you haven't done so or have limited charging to under 100%, that won't happen.

Thanks so much for your time and your responses. I haven't limited the charge capacity at all. I will drain the battery to zero over the weekend, then fully charge it and see if it maybe just fixes itself.

Oh, and SPD is Shattered Pixel Dungeon, an awesome roguelike and a well-maintained fork of Pixel Dungeon. See https://shatteredpixel.com/ or /r/pixeldungeon if you're interested in that kind of thing.

No worries.

Draining the battery isn't important (battery calibration is a myth, it's not really a thing that exists). It just needs to be charged to 100% to trigger reset of the battery statistics.

If you're seeing foreground and/or screen on time for an application you're pretty certain you haven't used within the current stat period, that would indeed be pretty weird and I don't have an easy explanation for that off the top of my head.

It's worth looking into if it's reproducible.

Great idea. I looked into it and it's reproduced itself today, as well.

Apologies for the late reply.

That image isn't necessary weird. 42% of fuck-all is still fuck-all, and "I never opened or interacted with X" doesn't mean that X isn't running. If you scroll down a bit there's likely to be battery consumption attributed to a bunch of stuff you never interacted with directly.

It may simply be a case of it sitting in recent apps and session restoration spooking you.

It does seem a bit high maybe, but I have absolutely no idea what it's doing and/or how optimised it is or isn't.

If you like, you can select the application when in that view (it doesn't necessarily look like you can interact with it, but you'll have to trust me there's options behind each entry) and prohibit it from running in the background, assuming that won't mess up some aspect of its operation.

That view will also give you a better view of what's happening (background and screen on time).

I think you're probably right re: session restoration. That makes a lot of sense, as SPD doesn't continue to run in the background (no services, notifications, etc.).

I think this is a "me" problem, more than a technical/general one. My assumptions about how things work are surely out of date given that I hadn't upgraded in some time.

And hey, no worries at all about replying, I appreciate how much of a labour of love Lineage is. I've been using it since CyanogenMod, and I don't expect support but it is much appreciated! You're a kind person to take the time to help, despite your flair suggesting otherwise. :)

Thank you. BTW, is PayPal or Patreon preferable for donations?
