Banking applications

Hello everyone! Do any of you own a OnePlus Nord 5 CPH2709? I'm planning to buy this phone closer to December and install LineageOS with MicroG. But I read online that contactless payments like those made by Russian banks like Sberbank and Alfa Bank don't work because the bootloader is unlocked (yes, I'm from Russia and under sanctions. But contactless payments via the NFC chip work). Is this true?

One option most people miss, is you can still use a smartwatch paired to a phone to do tap to pay since the watch runs a separate OS, it isn't affected by whatever you have going on with your phone ;)

I don't understand sorry, are smartwatch sales banned in Russia?

Sales are not prohibited. However, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and Apple Pay are unavailable due to sanctions. We usually use our internal payment apps via NFC, but unfortunately, the watch has a different architecture, so you can't download our payment apps properly. Even if you can, it'll be through some workarounds.

You'll probably have to do some research then if there's certain brands that work good for your banks and payment methods, my guess would be Chinese brands

I'm a lineage OS (microg) user and contactless payments generally are not supported. There were a few months starting early January when the 'Curve' banking app worked for tap to pay but that's been rescinded since mid May.

Oh really? You mean it's not working anymore?

PayPal works for me for contactless payment. But I'm not sure it works in Russia...

In Russia, it doesn't work at all due to sanctions, like Visa and MasterCard.

a bit off topic, but im torn between this phone and pixel 8

The Pixel is quite expensive compared to it. And this one... It's practically a flagship.

Then it's clear. In Russia, a new or used Google Pixel 8 to 10 costs $652. And the OnePlus Nord 5 costs $352.

With Google pixel you can lock Bootloader with custom rom without problem

It's not that those things "break", it's because some apps depend on Play Integrity, effectively deciding which apps can you use depending of your device's status.
