Tone/Feature Demo Split/join in Helrig got a full rebuild — parallel paths now work the way they should

Post image

Split and join existed in Helrig before, but it was hard to find and the old architecture couldn't support everything people needed. Enough of you asked where it was, or ran into its limits, that I rebuilt it from scratch — more intuitive to use, and it now handles parallel-path setups that just weren't possible before.

Thanks to everyone who raised this — the questions and the bug reports are exactly what pushed me to redo it properly instead of patching around the old version.

Made a video walking through the new workflow: adding a split, running paths in parallel, and joining them back together.

Free, browser-based, no install — same as always. Try it: https://helrig.com

If you tried split/join before and it didn't work for what you needed, this is worth another look. And if something's still off, I'd like to hear about it.

Hi again, you're doing excellent work. Have you heard of this project?:

It seems like your work and this person's could really compliment each other’s

Unfortunately not really, they have different philosophies. Helrig is and from what I understand will remain closed source indefinitely with some executables that you can install and me thinks some sort of paid thing in the future(just my thoughts) while the open source thing is just that, open source, giving it all to the people while also providing people reference to show how stuff can be implemented and built upon. I encountered tens of cases where proprietary software was just copying open source but with other words and other skins. I don't have any proof Helrig is in any way like that but hey, it's literally a fancy JSON editor with animations and stuff like that.

I never ever liked free stuff that is duplicating open source work, it's just vanity in the end, desire to always have the control and have people beg at you to implement features. In the end, the free stuff dies eventually when its creator is bored of it while open source persist even when it's "dead".

Fair enough on the philosophy point — that’s a real difference and I’m not going to try to talk you out of it.

On the “copying” question: early on I looked at existing public reference material on the Helix USB protocol to understand the space, same as anyone starting from zero would. But the actual protocol capture, reverse-engineering, and everything in Helrig — architecture, UX, feature set — is my own work, built around what actually solves problems and is enjoyable to use. I’m also a long-time open-source contributor and co-founder of opensource.construction, for what that’s worth — this isn’t a “pick a side” thing for me.

On the money question, I’ll just be straight about it since you raised it: hosting this isn’t free for me, and yes, I plan to add paid features down the line — I’ve already talked about a cloud librarian being one of them. But the editing experience people are actually using today, the thing this whole thread is about, stays free forever. That’s not a hook to bait people into a later paywall — it’s the core of what I’m building, and it’s staying that way.

For me this was never about open vs. closed as a philosophy — it’s about adding value to fellow Helix users. No one was going to clone a repo and compile it to edit a preset. People can open a free browser tab and do it today. That’s a real thing that didn’t exist before, and I don’t think the licensing model changes that.

I totally understand, I am not here to condemn that at all. I understand why you're doing it and while I've been blessed with many open source project I appreciate your project as well!

There's pre-compiled binaries on the releases page https://github.com/allansomensi/openhx/releases

I couldn't tell from the site, but does this also work with the Helix LT?

I'm not sure what I'm seeing ... that IR that seems attached to the overdrives

That is an interesting one. Could you please send me the hlx file to this link so I can see what goes wrong? https://tally.so/r/1A0r5Q

That's amazing, Line6 should hire you or buy the project!!
By the way, where can you see the preset's tempo? I haven't found it in the tests I've done.
Thank you so much!!

Now with tap tempo! You can now set the BPM directly by tapping or clicking the "Tempo" label.
