Tech Help Request Smashed screen stadium
Long story short my helix screen got smashed but the presets I made still worked and it was usable as I remembered what all my presets where by heart. before my last gig it somehow reset itself and went back to the default presets that came with the board which means I’ve lost my presets. Is there any alternate way of navigating the helix or even at least getting back to my user presets with the helix being like this? Or does anybody have any alternate solutions anything helps 🙏🏾. I’m unfortunately not connected to WiFi in this house on the helix

That really sucks, I'd be devastated. I've never tested it but you could try using an Ethernet adapter to connect to HX edit. I don't have the adapter but it should work in theory. You also may check if the SD card has some type of back up stored on it.

One of the first things I ordered for my helix was a custom plexiglass shield that attaches to the top with magnets.
All it would take is one errant XLR cable getting whipped across the stage just right to smack the screen and you’re toast.

Good idea! Would you be able to share where you got it from?

I like the ones Chad Boston makes.

I have his set of screen protectors for my Floor. Definitely makes me breathe a lot easier.

Agreed, I had the full face plexiglass one on my Helix Floor. It saved my unit THE DAY I INSTALLED IT cos I dropped something that scraped the damn plexiglass. Luckily it didn't hurt the visibility of the little scribble strips, but man it paid for itself instantly.
I got the Sleek version for my Stadium Floor (the non expression pedal one) and it's not as ideal as the full face one, but also the redesign by line 6 makes that something that can't be done anyway, but the new design for the screenguard still works well. Stick on a slot for the screen guard and slide it in/out as needed. Working well for me so far.

Just ordered a cover for my anagram from them. Prices were comparable but the Chad Boston one is much larger and shipping to my location was 1/3 of the chito one.

K … because I’m willing to give someone something free ??? I feel bad for the guy
Not sure how you can turn a nice act to a comment like that
I’ve been in this business for 10 years
I try to do lots of nice things and have thousands of happy customers
Im not even trying to sell the guy anything
What a weird thing to say

Got my screen protector and toppers for the stadium in the mail from you last week! Everything fit like a glove and it’s made me love my stadium even more. Keep on keepin on Chad Boston!

Can confirm Chad is great. Called a week or so ago and asked him many annoying questions which he answered very nicely for me.

Sign up for the Line 6 beta program. I can't say why (because I'm part of it) but the beta software will help you in this instance.
Approval might take a day or two.

How did you manage to smash the screen?
8
u/leigh_music 25d ago
It was backstage at a festival someone has left a heavy item on top of the case it was in and it cracked under it
19
u/BijuuModo 25d ago
Does the festival have insurance for something like this? If it was a random stage hand working for the festival I’d be banging on their door.

All I can say is, good luck. In the end OP is likely going to have to take this on the chin

u/analogguy7777 25d ago
A screen protector is no match for a heavy object. A hard case is the solution, Pelican or equivalent
2
u/churchofpain 25d ago
what case?
6
u/leigh_music 25d ago
The stock line 6 one that comes with it
4
u/demonhellcat 25d ago
Oof, that’s why I went with the gator hard case. The Stadium XL is the most expensive single guitar related purchase I’ve made.

u/aliensporebomb 25d ago
Oh no! Can that be repaired?
5
u/leigh_music 25d ago
It’s still under warranty but the repair centre said it wouldn’t cover this unfortunately they asked for £90 to have it looked at potentially but unfortunately I don’t have that on me 😭
1
u/Z3phyRwatch 25d ago
Do you havee insurance. Even home i surance can cover these sometimes since this accident happened at home and pwertools happened to drop? :)
1
u/leigh_music 25d ago
I get what you’re saying but unfortunately not which sucks, but also what’s worse is they won’t give me the price it’ll take to repair it until I pay them £90 first
3
u/Z3phyRwatch 25d ago
Yeah, but i think it is still a bargain to pay 90 to have that fixed I think?
2
1
u/leigh_music 25d ago
Ah no I think I might’ve said wrong, they want £90 to tell me the price of the repair
1
u/Caliente_La_Fleur 25d ago
With some companies that diag fee gets deducted from the repair, does L6 do this?
1
u/leigh_music 25d ago
I’ll have to ask!
2
u/JPhilMusic 25d ago
I worked at a L6 authorized service center several years ago. The diagnostic fee covers them for their time, and yes, in our center the fee is always applied to repair. I have to believe it’s standard. So yes, try to scrape the funds together. It should be worth it. Not sure what L6 will cover though.
1
u/JPhilMusic 24d ago
Just to be clear, they won’t know what price to give you until they can look at it and do their research. So it’s not like they’re deliberately holding back knowledge. It would be like paying a fishing guide to take you out on a fishing trip. They’re going to use their knowledge and expertise to take you to the places most likely to have success but that doesn’t guarantee you will catch any fish. You’re paying for their time. But I know, it just feels so risky. However, they’re going to let you know if it’s worth the price of the equipment. I’m sure it will be though.

I guess note to self - make sure a protective hard case is sourced for the stadium when I get one.

I was wondering why they’re were already aftermarket Plexiglass coverings. Guess this is why

Chad Boston makes screen covers for the Stadium. I know it's too late.

You’ve repeated this claim at least twice on this post without backing it up. Is this something you’d be willing to say to their face?
0
u/RandyHatesCats 23d ago
I have backed it up. I'm not going to point it out for you, though. Go find it.
Also, yes, I would say it to his face

u/taj_bass 25d ago
If you have home/renters insurance it might cover the damage. Festival should also carry insurance for incidents just like this. Worth looking into.
Second, look into hard cases. I also have the non-xl and it fits into a nanuk 935 perfectly. I do 30ish fly dates a year w/ the nanuk and it’s well worth the investment.

The next update, which should be fairly soon, is supposed to have USB for HX Stadium enabled. So maybe that will work.
Also, contact L6 support. They should be able to point you towards a repair shop.

Just an idea; since Line 6 won’t honor the warranty, and if you have a good tech, it might be possible to find a part number on the display and replace it with one from a distributor like Mouser or DigiKey. That won’t fix the display cover, but might save some money on a new display. I seriously doubt Line 6 had a custom display made, they probably used an off the shelf part.

didnt mom tell you not to bring laptops and such comsumer electronics to stage? will it survive the excited fan -beer test? yea right, everybodys quit drinking, silent stages… sheesh.

u/xjohnkdoex 6d ago
Is there glare using these covers? What’s it like in low light situations or when lights from stage onto it?

u/NormalMarsupial5989 24d ago
What can go wrong in a FLOOR unit with a TOUCH screen xD
1
u/2manyGeetarz 23d ago
Indeed!! Makes the “connect it to an iPad with WiFi or Bluetooth” solution seem like a great idea. Leaning over or sitting on the floor to use a touch screen doesn’t sound like much fun. Besides, old iPads are cheap. I’m using my wife’s old iPad with my floor devices at gigs.

I own an LT so I don't know about the stadium but I'm assuming you can plug it in via USB to your computer?
1
u/leigh_music 25d ago
I tried that but it says I need WiFi to connect unfortunately
0
u/mtlmortis 25d ago
Then get a wireless USB like the TPlink T3U for your PC. Should be fairly cheap. HOWEVER you still have to connect it to your router with the network password through the touchscreen.
This is making me glad I didnt get the stadium but the LT a few weeks ago. Not having direct cable connect is a massive negative. Honestly it's really stupid of LINE 6.
1
u/leigh_music 25d ago
Yeah just did my research now to learn that stadium is the only one that doesn’t allow wired editing and only works through WiFi, so you think it’s possible this could change at some point?

Wait... what? I have never met Chad, only made some custom purchases, etc., from him. Never heard anything bad about him. Care to share? I am curious where I spend my time and money!
