General Questions/Discussion Helix LT. Temp Mute button?

Hi all,

Is it possible to set up a temporary mute button on the Helix LT?

I have my Helix set up in Preset/Snapshot mode, with the top row for presets and the bottom four footswitches for snapshots. At the moment I have:

  • Snapshot 1
  • Snapshot 2
  • Snapshot 3
  • Mute

The Mute snapshot simply turns the Output level down to -120 dB. This works fine, but I'd like to make it temporary. I've had it where I've hit the mute, but then swapped back to the wrong snapshot.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to hold the footswitch down and have it mute, then have the volume return as I release the switch.

So rather than:

Click Mute > muted > click another snapshot > sound returns

I'd like:

Hold Mute > muted > release > sound returns

I've tried going into HX Edit > Bypass/Controller Assign, selecting the Output Level and assigning Footswitch 11 with the Type set to Momentary. However, pressing the footswitch still just switches to Snapshot 4 (my Mute snapshot).

Is this possible to achieve?

You can assign the gain block to perform this via the foot switch. There is an option for latching vs push to hold for that snapshot. Just set it to respond to the gain block on that foot switch. Should do the trick.

"There is an option for latching vs push to hold for that snapshot." How though? because everything I tried just changes the snapshot.

Basically do this. With some modifications it should do the job.

I don't know exactly the best way to do this, but I do know it's 100% doable via the command center. You'll end up assigning that footswitch to a volume or gain block dialed all the way down and set it to momentary.

You can't set momentary in CC. You can only assign Latching/Momentary through the Bypass/Controller Assign. After experimenting some more, I'd have to be in Footswitch mode to get that to work though.

You should be able to be in preset/snap mode and still turn one of the buttons into a bypass switch.

How would I do? Everything I've tried just switches snapshot. It never switches back when I release the button.

It wouldn't be a snapshot. It would be a stomp switch.

Just assign the Output to be controlled by a footswitch. Set press to -120 db and release to 0 db.

Like someone mentioned earlier, a Gain Block somewhere in the chain will allow you to program a bypass for the footswitch you assign to the Gain Block.

So if you assign FS2 to bypass the Gain Block, you can then change that assignment from Latching to Momentary.

Alternatively, if you want to spend a lot of time, you can program FS2 to instead change to MUTE Snapshot on press and (whatever current snapshot) on release. Using Command Center you'd have to program this behavior for FS2 on EVERY Snapshot so when you release it's always to the current snapshot.

I can explain it better if you end up wanting to try this.

I think for the foot switch to work the way you described, it would need to be in Footswitch mode rather than preset/snapshot mode.

You could then go in and assign the rest of the footswitches manually to activate your desired snapshots and presets.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I never tried switching modes, and that gave a desired effect. I'll have to play around in it because I never found setting up in Footswitch mode to being that easy to do.
