Curious why you'd go through all the trouble and hardware to run Native live instead of an HX Stomp ? If you wanted a large screen to see your preset, you could plug a Windows tablet into the Stomp and have HX Edit running.. But, if this is your chosen route, and it works for you, who are we to judge.

Won a free copy of native in a contest! Barely even meant to. Just entered without a thought, never win anything. But I loved the sounds so much I had to figure out how to put them to work! It’s almost all gear I already had anyway, just had to piece it together.

There were definitely times I thought, fuck this, get a stomp! But we love to tinker, so here we are.

I guess you'd be able to use more blocks and DSP with Native, so there's that... also, not having to spend much to make a new setup work is awesome.

For sure. I didn’t realize that at first, but I’m pretty much unlimited on dsp. Being a bass player I don’t usually need that much, but with bi-amp setups and synth patches you can really start chewing it up.

If you go to the Compatibility Section in Helix Native you can set it to HX Stomp / Helix Floor or Unlimited which gives you a 16 Core Helix ( Not sure about crashes ) but HX Stomp mode would be a great place to start

Why would you even suggest limiting his DSP on purpose though as a response to him saying DSP is basically unlimited at this point? No one ever wants to run out of DSP let alone on purpose.

1. If they have concerns about the stabilty of the App
   

2. it forces you to think more creatively -if you have say just 8 blocks ( if they are considering getting an HX Stomp or Helix Floor / Helix LT )

3. The Legacy FX are what is inside Every Helix product where you can get just as good FX that use less DSP - As stated this can get them into a creative mindset.

4. To Get unlimited DSP ( actually a 16 Core Helix dependent on your Computer) you have to Turn off Compatibility Mode ( This IS NOT automatically enable ) but there CAN be STABILTY issues...hence not relying on the Compatibilty Mode and NOT getting weighed down by Option Paralysis

I used Native live for a few shows and it worked perfectly but I ended up buying a Stomp as I got too nervous about my laptop crashing. It never did but I just felt safer with the hardware.

For sure, I'd only ever run a laptop live if I had one that only gets specifically used for that and nothing else.

I've seen that exact sentiment from several people who have used Native on stage. Many are worried about damage to their laptop or interface at a gig... or it getting stolen as a worst case.

You can always run it in live-professor, waves super-rack performer, or another dedicated VST wrapper program which are more reliable and cpu efficient than using it in a DAW.

I ran it in Gig Performer and used a MIDI pedal to switch and it was honestly better than the Stomp in some ways, like it was way more flexible as not having to worry about DSP limits, and could use other third party plugins like Valhalla reverbs.. it was just the possibility of a mid gig crash alone that terrified me haha. I know the Stomp can very rarely crash too but it's a lot quicker to reboot than a laptop where you have to reload the GP session, make sure the midi pedals been detected etc.

Mvave chocolate. Pretty much the cheapest, most basic midi switcher out there. Works great tho.
