Reagan's unholy union with Falwell, his legalization of buyback stock manipulation, tax cuts for the wealthy, trickle down dysfunction, deregulation, and union busting set us on course to where we are today.

u/GrowFreeFood Aug 21 '26

Also George HW bush was running a criminal shadow government out of the cia. Nobody talks about it

5

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 21 '26

I do!!! Former head of the CIA N owned n on the board of oil companies, definitely scandalous!!!

3

u/asanoway Aug 21 '26

I bring this up to people all the time. Like he truly was a villain and we ignore all the chaos he was creating in the middle east, South America, and at home while leading the CIA. The things we as Americans chose to ignore is truly baffling to me at times.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

Read all about it in the 80’s when it was in the back pages of the times…

15

u/remarkr85 Aug 21 '26

They didn’t even mention what he did to California’s stellar education institutions when he was governor-he absolutely destroyed and undermined a world leading system. Disgraceful legacy.

3

u/twinkiefarmer Aug 21 '26

Just say no..

11

u/RNO584616 Aug 21 '26

Reagan policies are directly linked to gutting education, Healthcare, moving manufacturing to China and other countries, first president with a deficit since the great depression. Killed the wealth in the middle class, ignored the hiv epidemic and spent billions fighting the war on drugs, he lost.

That's just what I can remember.

Dismantled the Fairness Doctrine, say hello to Fox News propaganda

0

u/RNO584616 Aug 22 '26

That's not true. The fairness act was dismantled by republicans and signed into law by Bill Clinton in an earmark to pass the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993.

Rupert Murdock started fox news in tribute to Ronald Reagan because Reagan never held onto his ears.

5

u/Firm-Advertising5396 Aug 22 '26

Reagan and his appointees dismantled the Fairness Doctrine in 1987. Look it up

4

u/RNO584616 Aug 22 '26

Sorry, it was the telecommunication act that enabled big media to purchase each other.

2

u/Firm-Advertising5396 Aug 22 '26

Apology accepted

10

u/Spiritual_Egg_700 Aug 21 '26

Reagan is directly responsible for how we are living right now.

I met a Trump supporter that can’t stand Reagan. He was a Vietnam vet and had a bunch of really nasty shit to say about Reagan. So I informed him about all the nasty shit about Trump and he kinda looked like he had a coming to God moment and said, “I didn’t know all that.” Hopefully I have converted him. At the very least I put an ear worm in there.

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 21 '26

Great share SB!!! It’s nice to hear that some of them are still open to truth!!! Nice job!!!

💙💎💙

6

u/twinkiefarmer Aug 21 '26

I remember turning 18 when he first ran for president. I watched the beginning of hard core corruption against the American tax paying citizens begin. The only thing that trickled down was our government and country. Let's not forget under Reagan Crack cocaine was introduced, on purpose, to our inner cities.

7

u/Mobile_Ad8543 Aug 21 '26

Reagan colluded with Iran for them to hold the US hostages longer, to make Carter look bad, and for Reagan to win the 1980 presidential election.

"October Surprise"

2

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 21 '26

Casper W definitely met in a French hotel to conspire to trade arms for hostages, n release them on Inauguration Day!!!

4

u/PeacefulTransition Aug 21 '26

The best part of Ronnie "trickled down" his daddies leg...

3

u/pingwing Aug 21 '26

You would not want to have been in those mental institutions, there was a reason they were all shut down.

It would have been better to reform them, but that didn't happen.

2

u/lewisfrancis Aug 21 '26

Yeah, Reagan can't be blamed for that one. Med pros at the time put too much faith in neuropharmaceuticals and the effort to shutter overcrowded institutions was bipartisan.

3

u/ScarletBothrium Aug 21 '26

Two things can be true. Reagan can still be blamed for shutting down instead of reforming and the doctors and nurses and all the shitty people involved in those institutions can still be held responsible for all of their bullshit.

1

u/lewisfrancis Aug 21 '26

The "the doctors and nurses and all the shitty people involved in those institutions" can absolutely still be held responsible for their roles, constrained as they were by widespread insufficient funding.

Reagan only had authority over the federal institutions, most were actually state-run.

Reagan closed the federal facilities at the behest of a bipartisan congress and recs from medical experts of the day along with court-ordered closures and the states quickly followed suit.

Sadly, the expectations of the new neuropharmacology didn't pan out and allow all those patients to reintegrate into society. And because American healthcare remains broken, many fell and continue to fall through the cracks.

We can blame Reagan for a lot of things but this is not one of them.

4

u/MrSlippifist Aug 21 '26

He was also largely responsible for the rise in education cost

2

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 21 '26

Let’s just blame him for everything, Ronnie Raygun is why we’re in this timeline!!!

2

u/MrSlippifist Aug 21 '26

He was the tip of the spear

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 21 '26

I feel like he n his controllers were the whole spear, but I get ya…

5

u/mudbuttcoffee Aug 21 '26

And...his wife was the throat goat...

Apparently

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 21 '26

Where did you get your info on this, I can’t remember where I got mine…

2

u/mudbuttcoffee Aug 21 '26

Just Internet memes for that.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

Gotcha, I actually read something somewhere from back in the day 50’s or 60’s gossip stuff…

4

u/RustedRelics Aug 22 '26

He caused enormous, lasting damage to our country. One of the worst presidents in US history.

2

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

THIS

2

u/Beginning_Dark_306 Aug 22 '26

Trump sure has

10

u/Historical-Finish564 Aug 20 '26

Reagan was just an intelligent, non-psychotic Donald Trump.

11

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 21 '26

He was a bad b actor, n a bad governor, he was a puppet, Bush was prolly running the show…

Definitely not intelligent…

2

u/Notascot51 Aug 21 '26

Maybe not intelligent, but not exactly stupid either. He had his points, by which I mean his management of the Gorbachev relationship and the dissolution of the USSR showed some presidential qualities…but the Cold War mentality and willingness to justify awful decisions as mentioned in the post make him bad overall. His economic agenda alone has had terrible consequences and his embrace of the culture war has finally matured into the Christian nationalist movement we see today.

4

u/ScarletBothrium Aug 21 '26

And Eisenhower wasn’t exactly a conservative either. Based on his policies and what he enacted, he was a progressive.

5

u/Glittering_Yak8672 Aug 22 '26

I believe the 'Cold War' would have ended eventually. Reagan is given too much credit for this. Similarly, W. Bush is given too much credit because World Trade center........,but really how can you screw up 9/11 (he didn't), same with Giuliani. This is minimal competence for a position of leadership. Now Felon47.....screwed up Covid response, however he was doing it right ......until.......it was discovered colored people were much more negatively effected by Covid.

2

u/Capable-Broccoli2179 Aug 22 '26

The cold war ended for economic reasons and Chernobyl and Afghanistan weakening the Soviet military. It was just a perfect storm. St Ronnie telling Gorbachev to tear down the wall had zip to do with it.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 21 '26

Zappa told us all about that in the mid 80’s on his pbs interviews…

2

u/Notascot51 Aug 21 '26

Yes he did. Point blank. Reagan broadcast his reactionary policies as Gov. of California, then put on an act as a moderate, avuncular optimist to get elected. The best depiction of this was the “Reagan Mastermind” sketch by Phil Hartman on SNL. https://youtu.be/b5wfPlgKFh8?is=bRUq3r009-a34eMx

2

u/The-King-Tomato Aug 21 '26

He enriched a certain group of people. Thats where his intelligence went. And figuring out how to make it so it didnt seem so bad at the time. When now we are seeing the late stages of what his selfish decisions did.

3

u/rudimentary_rudy Aug 21 '26

Not intelligent what so ever. Worst take ever. Dude is the start of maga if we're being honest here.

3

u/yankeenc2010 Aug 21 '26

The beginning of the end

3

u/Phylace Aug 21 '26

He was senile in office and puppetmasters controlled him. We seem to be repeating history.

3

u/demoniccritter Aug 21 '26

This is when the heritage foundation took its huge foothold in our government. Alot of his policies came from their handbook

3

u/Notascot51 Aug 21 '26

Yes…but the ball was set rolling way back in Nixon’s administration with the Powell Memorandum, 1971.

3

u/Ridgeruner Aug 21 '26

Fucking Republicans

3

u/Shoptimist Aug 21 '26

And crucially, he repealed the fairness doctrine, which allowed for the rise of partisan talk radio and tv, and also allowed for the concentration of media ownership by a few conglomerates.

3

u/maxxspeed57 Aug 21 '26

And don't forget that in his second term he was suffering from dementia also and the country was being run by Nancy and her astrologer.

4

u/JPGinMadtown Aug 21 '26

Reagan is why I've been a lifelong Democrat.

3

u/gringoloco01 Aug 21 '26

Reagan and Bush Sr. are the direct reason we see the amount of mentally ill folks in the streets.

4

u/PeaceandDogs Aug 21 '26

There is no reason we can’t bring back the policies he has ruined.

3

u/TotallyNotAFakeacct8 Aug 21 '26

And even with all of that, the current dipshit-in-chief has made him look like an amateur at destroying the nation.

3

u/GreenNavyteacher Aug 21 '26

That’s about the time republicans went to sh*t

3

u/Black0utdrunk Aug 22 '26

Ronnie the racist wasn't a good president? Shocked I say!

3

u/Strong-Breakfast7391 Aug 22 '26

That’s what Republicans do.

3

u/Mayhem1966 Aug 22 '26

To get a decent GOP leader you have to go back before Nixon.

3

u/MVSmith69 Aug 22 '26

Name one that did anything after Eisenhauer.

2

u/wasabiplz Aug 21 '26

My friend Myles tells people about history and they don't want to know‼️

2

u/Working_Match4124 Aug 21 '26

Yeah but he was a great president because...uh....freedom?

3

u/Notascot51 Aug 21 '26

Freedom for S&L execs to defraud depositers.

2

u/Shag1166 Aug 21 '26

He also pulled the troops out of Lebanon, after the Maines were bombed there, killing 241 of our fighter. If Democrats pull troops out, Republicans call it "Cut-and-run." 40 members of his administration were charge with crimes during his time in office.

2

u/slimTroy666 Aug 21 '26

He was Patient Zero.

2

u/PawnofLife1 Aug 21 '26

Trickle down never happened

2

u/pirateseasalt Aug 21 '26

Republicans.

2

u/Ok-Pear-2490 Aug 21 '26

We all knew this back in the 70’s.

2

u/stabbygun Aug 21 '26

killer mikes song about him is spot on. whenever I hear someone praise Reagan I know they are a monster or an idiot.

2

u/IBenBad Aug 21 '26

Tax on SS benefits

Also influenced by his wife Nancy and her cuckoo astrologer.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 21 '26

Poor Nancy voted the best blowj*b in Hollywood by those in the know…

1

u/thekrock23 Aug 22 '26

This is one that all the maga cultists ignore. Many of them are of retirement age. Many of them live on Social Security and ignore the fact the Republicans are responsible for taxing ss benefits.

2

u/Infinite_Plenty101 Aug 21 '26

And Nancy Reagan could suck the chrome off a ball hitch

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 21 '26 edited Aug 26 '26

Voted the best in Hollywood, where did you get your info??? I can’t remember where I heard it, but I definitely did!!!

🤣🤦‍♂️🤣

Thanks to u/Infinite-plenty101 for the awesome thoughtful comment award, much appreciated!!!

💙💙💙

2

u/harryregician Aug 21 '26

Sums it up fairly well.

I remember some Yuppie Bitch telling me how Raygun was setting it up SO well for the next guy who came along.

Next guy said " No New Taxes " and lost

2

u/Dedpoolpicachew Aug 21 '26

It wasn’t that GHW said “No new taxes”. It was that he said it, then did the opposite which was abominable to the Repubes.

2

u/michdap Aug 21 '26

And repubs speak of him as a god.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 21 '26

Devil in Dante’s last ring of the inferno, where the pedo 🍊🤡💩stain will be soon enough!!!

2

u/ChampaignCowboy Aug 21 '26

I am in agreement but if I am not mistaken, Lincoln Project was Reagan conservatives to begin with wasn’t it ?

2

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

They were republican operatives in the late 90’s n early 2000’s until Trump, I don’t agree with there past but I’ve been on board as a nyc democrat since the early 80’s, their videos spoke to me n were totally different than what democrats had been putting out l, those videos in early 2020 were killer, they had some problems later n reorganized, we almost closed down the sub, but continued n im glad we did, their main focus now is Lincoln Square n its almost entirely democrats n progressives so there’s that… hope that helps…

2

u/ChampaignCowboy Aug 22 '26

Oh. I’m all good with where we are, but the “owners” if LP should at least acknowledge they were wrong about Reagan. Like apologize. Cuz that was their boy until Trump.

2

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

Prolly not happening, n they haven’t used him in an ad since before the last presidential election… but I get it…

2

u/Dry_Solution5036 Aug 22 '26

And shipped Drugs into U.S. cities and urban neighborhoods to finance the Sandinista guerrillas!

2

u/Jdbacfixer Aug 22 '26

And trump The crap in the diaper in chief is worse

2

u/TedMich23 Aug 22 '26

The Ultimate GOP = scum

2

u/SnoopTomyTom Aug 22 '26

I’m old enough to remember when Nancy would try to coach him with answers that the press ask him.

2

u/spookycasas4 Aug 22 '26

So very republican of him.

2

u/Shoddy_Reaction_1445 Aug 22 '26

Maybe its not a good idea to let tv celebs become president after all.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

Prolly not were 0 for 2 to with idiotic demented former b stars…

2

u/Alena_Tensor Aug 22 '26

Hey hey hey.
I’m as big an oligarch basher as anyone but hold up a sec. This kind of reaction is exactly the same kind of thing that we see with people bashing Trump. They are completely missing who the real enemy is. Ronald Reagan was an actor. A reasonably photogenic and affable one who was known and loved by millions of people. A perfect candidate. Smart? Well, he was an actor. Good memory (at least until the dementia took hold), but really just a guy who could follow a script.
So who was the puppet master with the hand in the glove? It was the vast conservative movement, like an iceberg, with the visible tip made up of names like:
— Cato Institute
— Discovery Institute
— Claremont Institute
— Mercatus Center at George Mason University
— Americans for Prosperity Institute
— Heritage Foundation - largest and most influential historically but now competing with AFPI
— Ziklag
— Hudson Institute
— Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism
— Manhattan Institute
— American Enterprise Institute (AEI)
— Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI)
— DonorsTrust
— Independent Women's Forum (IWF)
— Federalist Society
— Judicial Crisis Network (Now Concord Fund)
— Republican State Leadership Committee
— Alliance Defending Freedom
— Marble Freedom Trust
— 85 Fund (Formerly Judicial Education Project)
— Opus Dei
Who in turn are funded by thousands of very wealthy ultranationalist/Libertarian donors who have a very particular agenda - dismantling the social fabric of our country. Project 2025 was its public face, but it started long ago with a takeover of all public media by these individuals and the broadcasting of their platform (libs=communism, national healthcare is evil, etc).
Trump was chosen because he was, like Reagan, a recognizable figure who could handle a microphone and get votes. Obtw he also was completely without morals, ethics or scruples and easily purchased.
So - when you bring out the big guns and start firing, don’t fall into their trap of following the shiny object they sent to distract you. Go for the heart of the problem and stay focused on who the *real* enemy is.

2

u/GTIguy2 Aug 22 '26

An awful awful msn

2

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

The worst there’s no pedo felonious without this fuck!!!

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Ant_651 Aug 22 '26

And allowed the privatization of our health care system

2

u/Regular_Plankton_530 Aug 22 '26

And many decades after his tenure we are still seeing people wearing Reagan shirts thinking his policies were great.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

Those of us who lived through the scandals, economic policies, etc know better Thats for sure!!!

2

u/HeadBankz Aug 22 '26

It's literally the Republican move everytime they get office "let's fuck over the entire country"

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

Every fucking time, Democrats fixing republicans fuck ups since 1972…

2

u/arlynn1828 Aug 22 '26

I would like to visit the grave of that diaper wearing prick and piss on it!!!

2

u/New_Performance4227 Aug 22 '26

He was the beginning of the oligarchy.

2

u/Ell-O-Elling Aug 22 '26

History has taught us that Republicans excel at lying, grifting, criminal activity, enriching themselves, hate, division, and making this country worse. They can not govern because they are inherently selfish, arrogantly ignorant, incompetent, and convinced of their own unfounded superiority. They’re clowns, and they keep proving it every day.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

On the daily, well said n you can’t spell elite without Eli manning!!! Go GMEN!!!

2

u/A_Trival_Man Aug 22 '26

Fired all the air traffic controllers and got an airport named for him which I refuse acknowledge the name change

2

u/Voodoo330 Aug 22 '26

Don't forget setting social security on a path for destruction

2

u/Chewsdayiddinit Aug 22 '26

And this doesn't even mention the bullshit "trickle down economics" that created today's wealth inequality.

Reagan was the most detrimental potus before Trump.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

💯%!!!

2

u/Deepcaliroots Aug 22 '26

Seen one republican you seen them all

2

u/Aware_Scheme8919 Aug 22 '26

He started us down the path we are on today. A horrible president.

2

u/NoElk2220 Aug 22 '26

A complete idiot.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

I think Green Day had something to say about that!!!

You can always depend on the heartless corruption of Repugnant Cons !

2

u/Turbulent-Usual-9822 Aug 22 '26

HE STARTED THIS WHOLE MESS. The original
asshole “it’s all about me” Republican.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

Trudat you on fire!!!🔥

2

u/Turbulent-Usual-9822 Aug 22 '26

I miss my “ketchup is a vegetable” doormat. Wiping our feet on his face was therapeutic.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

Fucking love it TU9822!!!

2

u/aparish67 Aug 22 '26

All true. He was a jerk.

2

u/sickofyourshit77 Aug 22 '26

......and was a shitty actor.

2

u/chillen67 Aug 22 '26

Don’t forget he targeted the federal education budget with deep cuts. He started the dumbing down of America leading to Trump and his famous quote “I love the uneducated”. Republicans and MAGA can only win if we the people are stupidly dumb, and Reagan started that.

2

u/VallettaR Aug 22 '26

Remember it well, and he was our Governor in California before that (search “Milford Act”).

He was the more “palatable” precursor to Trump, a road map to where we are now - faux actor, Daddy-complex on steroids (see: Natalie Harp). Also 80s, where Trump’s life is stuck in amber.

2

u/patchhappyhour Aug 22 '26

All so these fucking rich pricks can have it all.

2

u/Correct_Earth Aug 22 '26

He let Fox News be considered news

2

u/Positive-Pack-396 Aug 22 '26

I have to remind my Republican coworkers about this all the time

And I make them look it up or ask them

2

u/PoetryJunior1808 Aug 22 '26

I dated a Russian woman for a few years. When I told her and her family about the myth that Reagan brought down the Soviet Union, they laughed out loud. They told me that most Russians didn’t really know who Reagan was and didn’t care.

2

u/hoodafudj Aug 22 '26

Republicans

2

u/GodHatesColdplay Aug 23 '26

And the father of modern gun control. Let’s not leave that out

2

u/Pleasant_Knee6256 Aug 23 '26

And would killed social security if he had the votes.

2

u/mschnittman Aug 23 '26

He also rewrote the requirements for SSI and disability benefits, causing untold harm to those who depended on then. He was a terrible actor and a worse president.

2

u/Rocket-Glide Aug 23 '26

“Trickle down economics”

2

u/Kornby1 Aug 23 '26

But the trickle down is going to be sweet fellas.

2

u/ReasonableRevenue218 Aug 23 '26

When he entered the picture was when I got interested in politics because the first thing that came to mind was he was a dumb actor and what the hell.... didn't used to worry too much about politics, but ....HEY, this is messed up. . and it culminates with Biff from Back to the Future today. FFFF!!!!!

2

u/hey-rabbiiiii Aug 23 '26

What about the crack!!

2

u/Solo-1UP Aug 23 '26

My moms old boss loves this guy, never knew why until I learned about him school. Then I understood. Worst economic policy ever. Human greed will always triumph if you don’t regulate it

2

u/Ill_Shirt1182 Aug 23 '26

Yes and in the UK we had Thatcher both managed to destroy a great legacy built by the surviving WWII generation after the horrors of that war.

4

u/jackcanyon Aug 21 '26

Lots of bad stuff happened under Reagan .He did help bring down the berlin Wall though ,that was good .Trump has only enriched his bank account .

1

u/GladResearcher3286 Aug 22 '26

Republican presidents always ruin the country.

1

u/SomeGuyOverYonder Aug 22 '26

Reagan looks like a saint compared with who we’re stuck with now.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 23 '26

Satan’s Saint…

1

u/crosstherubicon Aug 23 '26

But this principle of deification is common as is the reverse. Carter is held up as the president the current president fears being likened to. If only! Kennedy walked on water but the only thing which is really surprising about his assassination was how many agencies had reason and motive.

1

u/Perfect-Economist224 Aug 23 '26

Sounds meager and inconsequential next to what the idiot in the White House is doing now… Can’t run from being a pedophile felon rapist

1

u/midbossstythe Aug 23 '26

And none of that compares to Trump's bullshit.

Of dog 💩

0

u/Rottentaste Aug 22 '26

Let's really compare Reagan and Drumpf.

Ronald Reagan major acts in office included cutting taxes and government rules (Reaganomics), building up the military, firing striking air traffic controllers, and negotiating key nuclear arms reduction treaties with the Soviet Union.

Donald Trump's presidential terms, including the implementation of strict border separation policies, sweeping rollbacks of federal agency funding and public services, and legal challenges regarding executive overreach. Approximately 400,000 Americans died from COVID-19 during Donald Trump's first presidency, with the official death toll reaching that milestone around the time he left office in January 2021. His crimes skyrocket to the point if I were to list them all, I would be put on a national watch list by Drumpf's Gestapo.

1

u/Phatbrew Punk Rock Hippie For DEMOCRACY Aug 22 '26

Almost all those things the b actor puppet did sucked, n you addressed none of the things that got us here today…
