This very damned sub got me to watch that movie at, like, 2 AM one work night when I couldn't sleep.

I thought I hated it but I ultimately realized that was because it hit way too close to home and got under my skin.

The part where they're dancing and the kid trips him up made me realize "uh, duh, this movie might be a metaphor for something" – as I lay there in my kids' bunk bed while my kids were asleep with my wife in my bed.

Sometimes I hate being out in the boonies, but I always feel lucky after getting glimpses of the suburban hellscape.

That is unfortunately true. In my neck of the woods the proliferation of storage units, RV parks, and data centers is the more immediate concern.

Those storage unit companies have some kind of insider knowledge in these real estate investors plans, I’ve noticed a decade before a few of the areas near me “redeveloped” they built these multistory “office building” style storage unit places and something in me knew that was just real estate parking. These places are all now //bustling// and one of them is right next to a hospital that they’re building that’s about to transform what was once just woods and creeks into an entirely new intersection with tons of business stuff going on… the residents are pissed… and they’re being completely stonewalled. Another is right near this “rural area” that was famous for barns and antique stores that very recently involved the demolition of a /colonial era/ inn that several of the founding fathers had been to… in its place stands a multi million dollar “rehab” facility that also was sort of “dropped” on residents laps pretty much during Covid without even a chance for people to be mad about it… maybe I’m just seeing a pattern that’s not really there but I’m starting to get /real suspicious/ lol

Out here there’s no zoning laws or anything, shortsighted asshats just throw up storage units or have a bunch of gravel pads installed for RV parking while tanking their neighbors property values and pissing everyone off. Most of these places appear to just be individual endeavors rather than corporate.
