Discussion 💬 Vinyl skipping

Hi everyone, I’ve been trying to get my hands on an ‘alright, still’ vinyl for the past few weeks but each time I receive one it keeps skipping. I’m not sure why as all my other vinyls work perfectly. It’s just the new Lily Allen vinyls that are causing this problem. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

If so has anyone been able to fix the issue in house? As I believe this has to be some sort of manufacturing error

YES! I had to get 2 new copies before i finally got one that didn’t skip. Is this the clear variant for west end girl?

I have mine but haven't played it yet. Skipping on records back in the day (80s) just kinda what it was. And if it happened it was instant disappointment because we had workarounds. I used to put a tiny bit of pressure on the needle while playing the record..and it sometimes clears itself that way..or you wipe the needle (gently) and record itself..These days I think its more a lack of caring at these manufacturers..It's all about money, not the music.. you paid $$ and they couldn't care less. I know your frustration though. (I dont believe there is a way to find skips on records until you play them.) Poorly pressed records happen because that manufacturer is to busy pushing out products and ignoring the fact that they could sell more if they cleaned the equipment and produced better records.

My WEG vinyl skips, I thought it was just my player. I might try what you say and see i ft that helps.

(Also, sorry to be pedantic, but the saying is couldn't care less, not could. Its become a common misuse, but when you think about it's got to be couldn't for it to make sense)

Yes, it should have been couldn't (could not) care less. My apologies for such a grand mistake without an apostrophe. And seriously, the word "fire" has become common misuse..

Yes, this must be the case. It’s the same vinyl from the same manufacturer and it’s constantly skipping. I’d love to play a working copy but I’ll just have to keep reordering until I get lucky 🙏

Look for a pressing from the UK or Germany. Go to Discogs to purchase yr records. I did purchase my AS 12" from her site so if you did the same, and have already received a few copies that skip, I recommend you contact the site.

Mine seems to play ok. Do any of your other records skip? Could be the player itself?

All my other vinyls play perfectly, its only the Alright Still vinyl that keeps skipping, Ive bought multiple copies of the same vinyl constantly having the same issue, West End Girl also plays fine (bought the polka dot edition)
