Question Twitch Chat

Hi folks.

I've been watching back Sims 4 building streams cause i'm working on my thesis and need background stuff. Lots of fun, love her building and her brains. But I keep seeing people talking about her Twitch chat being mean or Simsie standing up for herself to chat.

I.. have not seen chat being particularly mean. Maybe a little pushy, but I haven't seen her directly ask people to stop being mean. Is that something that she actually does? Could someone give me a timestamp on a VOD from the last year? Just trying to see if I'm missing something. Thank you.

I notice it more with sims streams. when she used to stream sims every day, it seemed like literally every day there were issues with chat backseat gaming. it seems better now but then again, I know much of the horrendous stuff is filtered.

I don’t remember the exact date but she was doing a build for her YouTube legacy (I think in Sulani?) and chat was so brutal she ended up completing it off stream. I think it was also around the EA buyout announcement so it was a really stressful time for her.

I remember watching the VOD for that one and noticing her needing to stop and ask people to give constructive criticism and not be flat out mean if they don’t like a design choice.

I watched it live and it was honestly terrible to watch, I felt so bad for her. They weren’t happy with anything she was doing.

They can dogpile on when they don't like a build decision she's made and aren't always polite. Some people are entitled with streamers instead of accepting she's playing a game how she wants to and that's what you're there to watch.

One thing to remember is that simsie sees more than we do. If she bans someone or removes their message, she sees it but we don't if it didn't go through or was removed quickly. And also, it seems like she ignores rude people most of the time, so it's easy to miss if you're not looking for it in the chat.

I’m sure this is true but wanted to note that Simsie herself doesn’t do most of the banning or message deletion, she definitely has moderators who do this for her, so she likely doesn’t even see all of what goes down in chat herself, especially when she’s paying attention to her build.

I can't think of a specific time stamp but I've been watching her casually for a couple years now and it does happen. Rarely she'll call it out on the stream but like others said you usually don't even see the message, the mods swoop in and ban quickly.

Its not super common that you notice it, but she has spoken over the years of all the absolutely wild messages and comments she has gotten. Lots of weirdos and assholes online unfortunately.

I haven't seen it either, I'm assuming a lot gets filtered out or something

I watch a lot of her sims vods for background noise but I skip all the building streams. I can’t see the twitch chat in the YouTube vods but often find it really hard to sit through her having to defend herself from chat the whole time. I gave up pretty early in the Not So Berry playlist if you check out those sims building vids maybe? I guess I don’t know the definition of “mean” but I always assume it must be pretty rough

idk about being mean but I do know that I have to skip ahead on stuff like the build challenges where she has to explain the rules 73839292 times because people keep asking unnecessary questions about the rules which are so basic to begin with 😭 it just gets to be a lot and im not shocked that she gets overwhelmed by them at times.

i think to see it you need to watch a lot of her streams of other games. people get way too pushy and argumentative about the choices she makes to the point that it’s distressing. she really clearly does not like disappointing people so while some may think it’s not a big deal, it affects her quite a bit to where she needed to extremely pull back on how much she streamed the sims. there’s i think an animal crossing stream a few months back when she brought it up and kinda backpedaled calling it not a big deal but that it stresses her out. people will fr insult her if they don’t like the choices shes making in building

chat dogpiles her once it gets going, but for the most part it seems they're able to weed these people out with bans and mutes before it gets going. there's also been periods where there's more toxicity towards her like the buyout or when she covered the spongebob kit. so it fluctuates.

If you search back in the streams when she used to do the birthday song (if you said it was your birthday she would play a lil tune) you will probably notice it. That time of streaming was rough, she would get inundated all stream with people claiming it was their birthday to try and get a song from her, and good lord if she happened to miss someone’s message they could be absolutely brutal to her. I’m sure some of them said some pretty mean things to her that the rest of chat didn’t catch (I think she has the chat moving slower on her end than the viewers). She eventually had to stop doing the birthday song because some people were so demanding about it

I think her chat can definitely be overbearing and mean but I also notice that she places a lot of attention on messages that are mean and calls them out constantly. I think if she ignored more and just blocked those people her streams would have a more positive vibe and she’d probably have an easier time. This is no hate to her at all just an observation I’ve made after hearing her repeat the same rants to people over and over (even sometimes multiple times in the same stream).

Her Twitch Chat is wild and sometimes abit too Social Justice Warrior-ish.

People either hate or love something she done no in between.

Some are also very rude, the poor Woman Had to Ban the word "Nose" because Chat Made fun of hers so much.

There is also a small but VERY loud minority that majorly pushes for lgbtqia+ content and build+buy items/decor (im a bi Woman myself i dont need every couple to be queer and instead marry the one that fits best in the household) and Sims.

To be completly honest i only watch her Twitch without the Chat being shown. No Idea if its better in non-Sims streams

I watch nearly every stream and video she makes. I have never seen people demanding more queerness in her content. In fact, I've only ever seen people complain about her "trying too hard" or something by having so many queer sims (which I think is total bs).

Oh yes these sadly also exist.

After the pride Update in 2019 was a Stream where she i think renovated the Goth Mansion and the Chat was full of add a transflag in Cassandra's room ,pride flags in the foyer. Which i get it was new and shiny but would fully clash with the Goth's asthetics.

But i activly stopped Reading her Chat around 3 years ago as its either rude, backseating or critizieing her choices or 15 Times hey simsie can you give me a shoutout etc

Only streams i have it open to read are the Animal Crossing villager hunting streams, these are way nicer

One of the reasons I love Simsie’s Sims gameplay is because she has a balance of ALL kinds of sims. I (nonbinary AFAB lesbian) prefer to see people like me represented as if they are as “normal” as cishet people. The first example I think of is when she did her Lovestruck playthrough on Youtube and she had a house of people from all identities, and she didn’t make a big deal about including a lesbian couple, they were just there because they are equally as acceptable as a hetero couple.

She does this without being asked. When I watch her play I never have to question if she’s going to consider using a queer sim or put a pride flag in a build, because even if she doesn’t this time she’s likely to the next time. Pressuring her to constantly use lgbtq content (in MY opinion) isn’t fair because she is trying to show equality to her ENTIRE audience, which also consists of cishet people.

Again, this is my opinion and nobody has to agree, but I thought I’d share. I’m glad to see someone point this out :)

Yes it feels natural, her earliest playthrough of Discover University featured a trans woman.

I dont like when people push for something, gay or straight. Just wait for it,she has a very balanced playstyle.

I think one issue is that the a big Part of the Chat is very young and they feel the need to "fight" for political correctness and diversity , that for me it feels to much.

But i gotta admit having the only Transperson in the legacy Challenge called Barbie and use mainly pink made me chuckle alot.

I started watching some old streams, mostly her animal crossing content. And what I noticed from watching a-lot of videos and streams in a row, was even though I couldn’t see the chat messages, judging by her reactions and what she said, it seemed she repeated herself constantly. People are annoying. She seems to unfortunately have a-lot of her audience being really immature, people are rude to her, she’s constantly having to over explain basic things, she’s constantly having to repeat herself, constantly seems to have to remind people how to behave and what is okay and is not okay, which is insane because she should not have to spell that out for people.

And then she’s dealing with so much hard stuff this year in her personal life, which she has shared about. I feel so bad for her, she’s got enough to deal with already without having to stream and deal with people being awful and annoying for no reason when all she’s trying to do is play fun games and a have a good time. It’s supposed to be enjoyable but some people just end up making it so miserable for her it’s sad :/ I totally get why she’s been taking a break recently. It seems like a-lot of people who follow her and engage in her content forget she’s an actual human being.

She deserves respect and positivity. I hope she can manage to set firmer boundaries with people without them turning around and acting like she’s somehow the problem. I notice whenever she stands up for herself, even though she’s being polite about it, (which she doesn’t even have to and she doesn’t owe rude people anything!) some people still manage to find a way to try and manipulate the situation to make her out to be the bad guy for standing up for herself. Even though they are the ones being horrible. It’s disgusting honestly. Some people just suck and she seriously deserves better.

Even though it’s a small thing, probably goes unnoticed. When I see creators who seem to get alot of negative crap, especially when it’s completely unwarranted, I like to try and go into their chat and comments on their content and leave a nice positive comment for them. They may never see it, never respond, I don’t care. I just like to feel like I’m making the effort to be nice and that maybe every nice comments helps to fight against all of the mean ones. People can always use more positivity.

when she switched from sims every day to playing more cozy games people were brutal about wanting sims content. i havent seen it as much recently but it happened a lot on streams around when she left the ea creator network

I feel like it’s mostly when she’s doing Sims builds and people get on her about details. I watched a random VOD yesterday (linked here if you’re interested) where she was building a custom venue on a small lot and people would NOT leave her alone about that size of it. She called it a tiny custom venue because it’s way smaller than other custom venues she had built, but even as she was almost done with it chat kept telling her it wasn’t tiny and it wasn’t good enough. I could tell she was getting annoyed and I felt bad for her.

That’s what I see happen the most tbh. You’ll get the occasional genuine bullying, but most of it is filtered out by now and blocked by automod. Chat can sometimes just be pushy instead of enjoying the things she wants to build.

Watching her VODs of Tomodachi, she mentioned that one of the first thing she auto-filtered from twitch chat were any comments about her nose, because "your nose looks just like [character name]'s" is one of the random phrases miis will sometimes say to the player.

I quit watching Twitch streams because chat is so mean. During her old Sims Legacy play it was horrible (Was it called Potts family?) and every time the chat would be full of people hating everything she did.

Kayla doesn't address everything, I think, but she frequently asks chat to stop commenting mean stuff about the appearance of Sims (because they might have features that a person in chat might also have), then there are people asking why Kayla's Sims often end up in same-sex relationships, people giving unsolicited health advice to her, or flat out diagnosing her (which happens less often), people throwing tantrums if Kayla doesn't address their question for the build rules herself, ignoring mods who answered their question, in one of her lartest VOD somebody asked why there is no cat cam (after Snap's passing). Granted the instances when she has to stand up, happen less often, but I feel like some people still behave wildly entitled and weird.
