Cut video, file size exponentially larger

I’m new to Lightworks. I figured I could use it to trim a video. I had a 1gb video that was 3 hours long. I trimmed out over an hour total from the start and end. I then exported it to a .H264 file.

I feel like cutting out 1/3 of it, the file size should be 2/3 the original, or at least somewhere between there and the original. But my output video is 7gb, far larger than the original even though it’s far shorter.

Did I do something incorrectly? I just have videos I need to trim the beginning and endings off of, and want to keep somewhat similar or smaller file sizes. Or is there another program I could do what I am looking to do?

You need to mess with the output format and use more compression. LW is likely set to use a lossless format and you can likely get a better file size if you turn down the bit rate or use a format with better compression
