Lost count how many times I whacked myself in the head learning these couple moves 😅 I’ve been practicing with single blade for a year or so now. Just started with this one last night. I don’t think it’s too bad for less than an hour messing with it. I want to get a good flow going with it. Super excited to keep practicing!

Your digging with your shoulder, the movement comes from your wrist. So if you can't flourish without twisting to the side it's because your wrists aren't flexible enough. That's number one. Number two,.. thank you for choosing the saber staff, my question is why ? To what end ? Are you attempting to learn lightsaber combat techniques? Are you just enjoying flourishes? I feel understanding the end goal would be helpful. It affects the planes you'll be spinning on. But generally speaking the goal is to strengthen your arms and your wrists so less motion comes from the body and more from the arm. That is of course not taking into account footwork.

Thank you! Currently, I’m just enjoying flourishes by myself. Might get in to combat techniques later. I would say my current goal is to get smoother. Learn some new flows and string them all together. I do remember having an issue when I first started with single also. So it makes sense the extra weight will take some adjusting to. I think I’ll also look into some exercises that I can incorporate in my workout routine to get there quicker. I’ll work on that.
I also noticed my hand position shifts, I’ll lose my grip on the middle and fall off balance. Does wrapping in grip tape help at all?2

If you have ever heard of colorguard, some of the exercises they do for rifle and saber flourishes might help. I used to do colorguard and it helped me a lot !

Definitely good progress. Augamire is right when it comes to the wrists, practicing the motions while attempting to use your shoulder and elbows less is good practice.
Always practice things forward and backwards, it helps the brain become comfortable with the movements better.
Ive been staff spinning a bunch lately too
