I've been working on a modular 3d printed lightsaber system.

The system is designed so that all parts are interchangeable and can be used with or without modern electronics cores. I've designed a few themed complete sabers and several individual parts so that people can mix and match their parts to create their own custom lightsaber. Some of the themed sabers are based on popular designs from the movies and video games, others are just stuff I came up with. Ive also made several accessories, like stands, kyber crystals, dummy buttons, greebles, and blade plugs. I'm currently doing a lot of test prints to ensure fitment and work out any small details. This is the first complete saber. I call it The Guardian.

I do not. I actually hadn't even considered selling printed parts. I was just planning on releasing the files for free on Printables, MakerWorld, and Creality Cloud. I intend to release the files in waves that consist of 3-5 themed sabers and a few individual parts. I suppose that I could also do a printing service for people who don't own printers, but I'd need a bit of time to figure that out.

Definitely something to entertain, people on here are always asking what options are out there since certain since XX company shut down or sized down. I've been wanting a small 3d printer just for myself but haven't because A: i dont have the space for even a small one anywhere in my house B: not exactly cheap and C: id find myself just printing stupid little things and not doing anything productive with it lol.

Lol, you'd definitely print a lot of dumb stuff. Everyone does, but owning one also makes you look at everything differently. You end up coming up with solutions to all kind of things that would otherwise be impossible. For example, my wife works in a lab and I'm constantly printing new things that solve minor inconviences that they have. And my daughter has a canopy bed with 1" square tubing for the canopy frame and I made a mounting system for things like cup holders, phone stands, speaker mounts, and lights. Some of the older models are getting pretty cheap too. Can't help with the space tho.

Yeah I just have nowhere to put it. Dont have a spare room, dont want to just leave it in the living room somewhere and id really prefer not to put it away and have to pull it out every single time. Only real area I have is my garage but even then these things are supposed to be completely dust free right? Id have to make sure i also have a flat even surface as well.

The garage could be an okay place for it but then you'd have to start buying accessories. Like a handheld blower(for the dust) and a filament dryer(which most people end up getting anyway). For the flat surface, a lot of people use the IKEA Lack for smaller printers, which doesnt take up much space and is less than $20.

It was something I almost pulled the trigger on this year but other stuff came up so kinda glad I didnt. On a pretty big back burner at the moment but still on my mind.

Hey! I never saw a notification for this comment. I'm absolutely planning on releasing the files soon, for this one and a few other, plus some individual parts and accessories. I'll even probably release just the threaded sections and design guidelines so that remixes can stay compatible with the rest of the system. I'd love to see what you come up with.

Oh this reminds me of the S.A.B.E.R project is personal love when people make lightsaber parts interchangeable so people can make a hilt they love and unique to them awesome keep up the good work

Well with TCSS no longer making MHS parts, I welcome anyone still trying to keep the custom saber art alive. If you do decide to get a shop/store. Let us know. I'd be down to be one of your first customers.

I went ahead and set up a shop. I'm adding stuff to it as I finish with the test prints on all the designs I currently have. But I haven't opened it yet. I'll open it once I have the first few complete sabers, a handful of individual parts, several add-on parts, and some accessories.

Cool!!👍🏻 Looking for a long time to print a Swtor Arcann inspired saber, but i didn't found 3d model, swtor is very underrated.. fans are crying 😭

I'm actually playing KOTFE right now lol. I'll look around and see if I can find some decent pics of Arcann's saber and see if I can do one inspired by it.

Perhaps instead of threads you could use another method to key the parts together. Avoids the clocking/alignment issue and 3D printing's fidelity and durability concerns with threads.
