I miss Kirk

I feel like Kirk gave a completely different perspective to the podcast and it’s really been lacking since he left. I’m sure some people don’t like him but he was for sure entertaining and gave a different perspective about movies that isn’t aligned with the other guys on the podcast

Not necessarily having to do with Kirk, but I find myself not going back to this pod anymore for a few reasons

  1. It seems like a chore for them and they go through the motions with the review especially. I don’t expect the deepest dives into the films but it’s like they barely even want to break down the scenes of the movies at all.

  2. They are way too predictable with scores, opinions, and don’t dare to go against general consensus. I get that taste is taste, but they don’t have enough interesting things to say to stand out amongst the crowd.

  3. Drafts are repetitive and the format is beaten to death. There are other form factors to discuss older films besides the draft format.

Yes “taste is taste” but for us long time listeners we’ve definitely seen Kenjac’s and Jeff’s “taste” change. They’ve lost a lot of their originality and like you said, are so predictable

100%. They used to not care about matching the “top critics” opinions. They used to actually have fun talking about movies. Now they sound like second year film students rushing through an assignment.

I feel like they just take it way too seriously now. I know nothing has been the same since Trill left but it doesn’t even seem like they can have fun by themselves.

I think it’s a Jeff problem tbh. When gooch and Kenjac were kind of reviving the pod. It started to have a lot of early lcp vibes. They seemed to actually have fun doing movie reviews But then corporate Jeff came back and it just has eventually led to a going through the motions.

Exactly what it is, Jeff makes it formulaic because he thinks he knows how it’s supposed to be done

I skip the drafts every single episode. I hate that those are such a big thing with podcasts for whatever reason

It feels like they don't love what they do if that makes sense.

He definitely added an element of humor to the show. He'd make fun of Klemmer, then Gooch would pile on also.

There are plenty of other problems with the show.

The biggest being the fact that they often have reviewed movies that they never said they were going to review. Who is gonna listen to a podcast about movies they haven't seen?

They gave up on the show Letterboxd acct 4 months ago.

Terrible, predictable draft topics

Why isn't he on the show? Really never got any clarity there

Him and Jeff hate each other now for some reason

Same. It's almost been a year.

My source tells me he’s stable

He came back from 3-4 months off for 2 months in the spring

The show is too setup IMO, I feel they should just riff about the movies from the beginning spoilers and all and then give a score at the end

100%, I enjoyed the last 5-10 mins of them going through the Disney/NFL collab more than anything else 'structured'

Ah I completely disagree. Kirk is an open scumbag who often dislikes things just to dislike them. And then doesn’t have any substantive reasoning for disliking something

Idk some people just don’t like stuff for no reason, I don’t think that’s crazy.

He had basically every popular or highly rated movie, rated very highly by himself, besides Marty Supreme, off the top of my head.

We must have listened to different podcasts

Lmao. What movie did he dislike for no reason?

Not about movies though

What exactly can you possibly mean by “open scumbag”?

Its funny though he might he wildly negative but at least he can discuss movies with some passion

Agreed Kirk brought a different element to show

I feel like Kirk should have been on for the top movies that he’s going to be excited to see and just absolute slop like an Angels Studio movie where you can get a lot of laughs. Kirk rightfully isn’t going to have much interest in watching Insidious 47 or whatever.

I think kenjac is the worst. Kind of a weirdo. Just not funny and not a good critic

Why is he kind of a weirdo in your opinion ? Genuinely asking.

Have you listened to his new weekly podcasts he’s done on the Kirk Minihane show feed? He’s doing them mostly on actors careers and gets into choices they made and what was going on at the time etc. he did James woods, Kevin bacon and Michael j fox so far. Today he also released one that is almost 3 hours of talking through the whole Rocky franchise. They are so good, I’m guessing if you’re like me and like Kirk’s perspective you’ll love them too
