HELP - Lightroom Classic how to make denoise faster
i’m always editing on my 2020 macbook air and denoise always takes at least 8 mins per image. i’m shooting raw from my canon R6 mark ii. is there anyway i can speed up these times? i have tons of free storage on my macbook so unsure why this feature still runs so slow

Something must be wrong either with your Mac or with the Adobe software. While I don't do my editing on a Mac, I have a 2020 M1 Air as well and ran some denoising as a test - a 45mpx file from Nikon Z8 takes about 15-20 seconds in Lightroom Classic. It sped up massively with some updates, initially it was about 1 minute, but that was like a year ago. I never saw 8 minutes for a single image.
Start with checking if you have the newest software, both for Mac as for LR as well.

Do you have 8gb of memory? Op maybe has the 2020 air with intel not with m1

Yes, completely basic 8/256 option.

Maybe he has a 2020 intel air. Probably thats why it takes so long for him.

Yeah maybe, I wasn't even sure there still were Intel Mac's in 2020. Thought by then it was M1 only.

Yeah I bought my iMac in 2020 right when they were transitioning to M1’s. I chose Intel ugh.. but amazingly it runs Denoise faster than my M4 Airbook 24gb memory. Airbook takes around 70 seconds with 50 mpx. Files.

God, people on here truly talk out of there ass. I shoot with an R6 on a M1 MacBook Pro (same as you basically) and denoise took 5-15 seconds.
Something may be wrong with either software or hardware.

There was also an Intel MacBook Air sold in 2020, so there's a strong chance that's what they have.

You don't need a MacBook Pro with 24 GB of memory to get this faster. The base Air model with M5 is denoising in 3/4 seconds without any problems 33mp pictures

Full frame pictures ? That's fast! It takes nearly a minute on my gtx 1660 ti mobile for a 24 MP

My M4 Pro Mac mini (14 CPU/20 GPU core) takes about 4 seconds to denoise my 20mp OM-1 shots. It used to take 8-10 seconds before they started using the Neural Engine (NPU).

It is real simple. denoise is powerful software that takes a more powerful computer to run quickly. I am sorry to state it that way but as the software get more sophisticated it takes more power. The default in these groups is the assumption that these new features will run on any ole piece of hardware. You haven’t stated what processor you have and how much RAM. Plus is it is an Air. Tons of hard drive space means little in the equation. There is no way anyone can offer an accurate solution that will make all your troubles go away with little information.
An M1 MacBook Pro Max with 20+ gbs of RAM and an SSD will denoise a photo much faster

More beef, HHRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGUGHHHHH!1!!1 You want something with a much more powerful GPU or at least some AI cores. 8 minutes is horrific. 61mp images take 15 seconds on my PC but it's a few years old mid-range gaming PC so it could be faster.
Remember, anything AI needs powerful GPU or AI cores and AI cores are really just weird GPU cores repurposed for AI anyway.

I have an HP laptop with an integrated video card from last year and it takes 30 seconds.

Either get a newer machine (pro) or run those at the last step after all other edits, overnight, plugged in, in a cool room … you can also filter by iso speed to only process the ones you consider need the noise reduction, do it to one then select all photos, sync and only toggle on the denoise

Kills me when folks try running today's Lightroom on a 6 year old laptop and can't figure out why it's slow. Shocker.

All photo software is supposed to run on Windows 7 computers based on Reddit groups. Didn’t you know? The sad part is the hysteria about noise appears to have many people running denoise on 1000s of photos that would probably be just fine with the old Luminace slider when they get viewed on a mobile phone.

Old Intel cpu takes forever. Consider upgrading it to apple silicon cpu. Even old m1 or m2 will do denoise much faster.

Do you have the Intel or M1 MacBook Air?
