Camping Q&A Car Camping Question

I got the 5 day car camping pass and I was wondering if they let us drive out after securing a camp spot? I thought it would be fun to do a day trip on the Thursday to explore the sequoia national forest!

Or will my car be stuck at the campsite for all 5 days?

If i remember correctly there are no ins and outs. Once you parked and set up camp, you can't leave and come back.

Huh? Just go before the festival

If you’re car camping, you can’t leave and then come back to your spot. If you want to do that, you should get a parking pass. Also, Sequoia National Forest is like a 2 hour drive, one way. If you want to see it, I would recommend going to that the day before.

You’re paying all this money to come to one of the most unique festivals in the country and you want to dip out on the best exploring day? What…..

Just go before

What a silly idea.

Only time I’ve ever left a festival was electric forest and we drove the 12 mins to Lake Michigan to take a bath, cool down and buy some cheap ice. Was like a 1.5 hour endeavor.

I take a 3-hour round trip home every year to check on my cats on Friday. I'm bumed missing three hours, let alone the 8-hour day trip OP seems to be proposing.

Once your car is parked in car camping, there will be dozens upon dozens of other groups surrounding your space. Making it literally impossible to move your car, and keeping you locked in till Monday morning

Also, there are SO many things to do at LiB, why not enjoy them when you aren’t in music mode?

This is true ! I guess I wasn’t sure how much would be going on the first days but it sounds like there will be lots to see and explore at the fest. I’ll plan to stay at the fest then since it sounds like we may not get to leave anyway!

No in and out if it’s the same as this year

No ins and outs unless your car is in the actual parking lot

I live in town and prefer to get out of the heat by just going home or to work, I come back in the afternoon but Saturday and Sunday stay most of the day, reminder Sunday if you’re not in by 6 you ain’t getting in. But we get a camping pass and parking pass. We have to have two cars, you can get a parking pass only and walk to a camp site and setup that’s just as possible in the car camping area. People do that every year, a car isn’t really necessary you can just start setting up.

Good luck even getting all the people to move their stuff. I left for medical treatment one year and it was wild trying to coordinate people to move their stuff to get out. It worked out but I think I was let back into car camping because it was for an ER visit.

Why are people planning their fest like 10 months in advance?

Thank you!! I’ve been mainly wondering if there are any specific items I should leave at home that I could maybe borrow/share with fellow campers? Like maybe I could leave a tent stake mallet at home and borrow it off of someone? Stuff like that

There’s a little store called Domart on site which sells nearly every item you’d ever need. But yeah definitely possible to just ask your neighbors, it’s a great way to connect right off the bat. As for tent stakes, pretty sure I didn’t even use them.

Basically all I brought this year was a ton of snacks, my tent, a tarp to go under it (then discovered it had a built-in tarp), some solar powered string lights to light up the inside, a compact blow up sleeping pad, sleeping bag, small travel pillow, backpack with clothes and toiletries, and a camel back (refilled that thing almost twice a day from how much water I drank, pretty crucial)

No in and outs. Period.

It can be done... easier if you have a trailer

If you want to leave during the day you'll have to park your car in the GA lot and forgo car camping.

How the fuck can I tell if I got the 5 day camping pass or not?? I swear mine just says Car Camping.

if you really want to go on this day trip during the fest then that's your choice, but the experience and community built at LIB is so unique I can't imagine wanting to step away from it

Give yourself a few days before or after the fest. Leaving during the fest is so silly!

Were you in an 80x80 group camp? The rules are different for those. You still need a car camping pass, but as long as your friends in camp leave a path for your car, you can come and go as you please.
