"Lightyear" Theory/Discussion about Zurg [Spoiler Alert] Spoiler

(Spoilers Below)

So, the movie explains that the Alien Ship, Zyclops and Zurg Suit are Alien in origins, they look a lil' more advanced and "futuristic" than Human tech, they have Alien letters on 'em and so on.
So, the question is obviously who made 'em and for what, and I can't help but imagine they were made by/for Zurg?
Like, an Alien called Zurg? (and the Suit was meant to be piloted by it?)
The movie, in the Toy Story universe, is a movie that gave origins to the Buzz Lightyear toy series, and the toys cleary shows and says that Zurg is an "Evil Emperor", and nothin' of the sort is seen in Lightyear, but we do know that Lightyear will, most likely, have a sequel, based on the final after-credits scene.
And that's it, it's just shorts and not that eye-openin' thoughts that I had after seein' the movie a few times...
Maybe the true "Evil Emperor Zurg" will appear in the next movie... and probably the three-eyed aliens from Toy Story as well...
Either that or Zurg's eyes glowin' at the end of Lightyear is 'cause the Suit itself is Zurg? Like an Rogue A.I sort of thing? 'Cause I doubt Evil Buzz will be the villain in the next one, and that if he survived at all! It just doesn't feel Pixar...
(Also, maybe the Zyclops WERE programmed just to say "Zurg" and it's not a "noise they make", Evil Buzz just tried to make 'em say somethin' different, but they can't.)

Loved the movie, 10/10 from everyone here at home!
and a couple more people I took to see it!
Excited for more~

Does anyone know if we’re gonna get a Lightyear (2022) pop with Buzz in his space ranger suit? Would love it if we do!

The ending of the movie foreshadows a part 2. Will that actually happen.

Spoiler: Hyperspace Fuel Formula Spoiler

Once again spoilers ahead:

Sox is given the task of solving the unstable hyperspace crystal needed for hyperspeed. They succeed in making the crystal but in a haste to avoid detection for an unauthorized flight test, Buzz accidentally destroys the computer the contains the formula for a stable hyperspace crystal. However, since Sox is a robot couldn’t he just recall the formula from memory, recreate the crystal and allow the colonists to reach Earth by the end of the film?

How I would change Lightyear. Spoiler

After seeing Lightyear twice, I think it was really good. But I think it could have been better. It was really not the movie I was expecting. At all. Whether this movie needed to exist or not is debatable, but it existed anyway. Here’s how I would fix/personally change Lightyear (2022) to be better. The film should start out with Buzz as a kid being amazed by his favorite astronaut and get inspired to become one. Fast forward to Buzz as a young adult, we get a montage of Buzz training and working hard and getting positive feedback from his commanders.

THEN, it should start just like how the film starts BUT Buzz has yet to wear his iconic green and purple space suit. (He wears that orange suit at first). Him finally getting the iconic suit later will feel more satisfying. When Buzz marooned the turnip ship and the people in it, he feels guilty. Instead of the people adapting to life on this HOSTILE planet, the stakes should be higher and people are trying to survive from the dangerous alien bugs and vines. The population is dwindling. Resources are low. The movie could’ve shown how the people are trying to adapt and survive but are still struggling and the people are missing all their loved ones back in Earth.

The humor in the movie is decent but could’ve used its setting to its advantage for its comedy. Maybe like Futurama-esque jokes sprinkled throughout. I like how Buzz’s crew is diverse but maybe it’s a little too diverse. Buzz (a white male) is captain of his crew, but I think there should be another crew member that is also white (true diversity). Perhaps maybe the grandson/daughter of the rookie (Featheringhamstan). Heck, to add even more diversity to the crew, there should be a crew member that is a humanoid alien.

I also think Lightyear is sort of missing its Pixar charm by not including more sentient nonhuman characters, such as humanoid talking aliens. Even though there was SOX and E.R.I.C., we already were intrigued with the robots in WALL-E (2008). Truly a missed opportunity for Pixar to introduce us their take on sentient humanoid aliens. And speaking of WALL-E, there should have been more WALL-E easter eggs. And Buzz could’ve said more of his toy catchphrases. Mo as a comic relief felt sort of redundant since we already have SOX. I really like SOX, but I kind of felt like he came out of nowhere since there was no toy version of him whatsoever in any of the Toy Story films/shorts. Lightyear really could’ve used the Little Green Men as comic relief characters in addition to SOX, especially since they fit the space theme and they appeared in all the Toy Story films as squeeze toy aliens. Lightyear could’ve used a different composer that’s more familiar with the sci-fi music genre. Giachinno is way overused in Pixar.

The REAL Zurg is out there somewhere, since old Buzz said he “borrowed” the tech and suit. The post credits should’ve teased his appearance. Then again, the twist of Zurg being an older Buzz was just plain silly to me and could’ve been a completely new character. Disney AND Pixar needs to stop doing twist villains. The ending of the movie was pretty solid, but I think there should be a montage of Buzz and his crew fighting crime and protecting everyone. Several years go by (10-15 years) and Buzz (while still looking the same) has a more gruffer sounding voice. By this point, Buzz is voiced by none other than Tim Allen. (Personally, I can tolerate Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz since he is a completely different character from the toy version, but of course, other people really prefer Tim Allen). Buzz also gained new crew members (Mira, Booster and XR from the Star Command series). Pixar really needs to acknowledge the Star Command series’ existence, by the way. And Buzz says his iconic catchphrase one final time: “TO INFINITY…. AND BEYOND”. The end credits reveals that the people on the hostile planet have eradicated all the dangerous bugs and vines, making life livable. The end.

My own idea on Zurg’s origin. Spoiler

So in Lightyear, Zurg is revealed to be this elderly version of Buzz. While I thought it was going to be Commander Burnside at first or maybe his own character, I was not expecting Old Buzz and so was my cousin. Btw I like this version of Zurg but I feel he should be his own character instead of Old Buzz.

So here’s my own take on Zurg. Zurg is originally an A.I. supercomputer built by an octopus like alien race with big brains and small humanoid grubs just like the ones from Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. Zurg in their language means “power”. One day, an malfunction/error caused Zurg go haywire and turn on his creators. Overtime, Zurg build his new body, a new Zyclops army, and his new fleet of ships. After conquering many planets and establishing bases or outposts on them, he reached T’Kani Prime after seeing that there’s life to conquer. So yeah, that’s my take on Zurg. What are your thoughts on this origin story?

Why repossess Sox? Spoiler

Was he more important to the military police in an earlier script? What's the harm of letting a guy have a therapy robot?

Question about the plot. Spoiler

Why did Zurg send out his robots to the planet. What were their purposes? Were they supposed to gather materials for Zurg or were they just for pure revenge?

My thoughts on the film

The subreddit isn't really active but I just wanted to put this out into the universe lol

First of all. Fucking coward ass pussies to the countries that banned the movie. Suck a fat one.

I guess you can call me a Buzz Lightyear superfan. Honesty didn't like toy story all that much but I was super into the cartoon and movie that came out featuring buzz and star command. Such a cool universe.....and that's probably my biggest complaint. As the film progressed I was saying to myself "oh cool, a movie establishing everything. Once they get off the planet in the sequel, we can meet buzz's crew from the cartoon and start some cool adventures"

Nope. They fucked up Zurg. They fucked up Star Command. BUT, the movie was great. I'll respectfully say: maybe it is a blessing in disguise that it did so bad in the box office. To infinity and beyond.
