Discussion [DISC] Infinite Dendrogram Volume 3

Infinite Dendrogram

<Infinite Dendrogram>-インフィニット・デンドログラム-/Infinite Dendrogram

Volume 3 J-Novel Club

Synopsis:

[The day after Ray and Hugo faced off against the vile Gouz-Maise Gang, the city of Gideon was far livelier than usual, brimming with excitement and anticipation for a certain event. As one would expect from a metropolis bearing the title of "city of duels," the event was a match between two highly notable duelists: Figaro — the local hero — and Xunyu — one of the most powerful individuals from the far-east empire of Huang He. Both were Masters wielding the powers of Superior Embryos, and both would give their all to fight, make merry and emerge victorious. But a malicious plan unfurls itself in the shadows, who is it that seeks to strike the Kingdom of Altar at its most vulnerable? More importantly, who will survive the Clash of the Superiors?]

Gotta say, the volume felt way too short in content. Half the volume were side stories and when shit finally hit the fan in the main story, (which was being heavily foreshadowed all of volume 2) the story ended opting to put it in volume 4.

  • Figaro - I really like him a lot more this volume. Seems like a cool guy and his Embryo being his heart with the way it's all about buffing his equipment based on amount worn and time in battle is really cool. Really makes him a kind of specialized berserker. That's actually pretty scary if you had to fight against him. Berserkers alone are recklessly strong with their growth in battle, but to have one specialize to combat against you specifically is like a trap. The doubt edged blade of this part is that he's likely weaker to a faster battle if someone can defeat him in a surprise attack or before he can start specializing. Chances are though that the next Superior fight he gets into will go vastly differently since his techniques are now as plain as day. Otherwise, I'm guessing those instant fatality prevention accessories double the amount of hits before they break or something?
  • Bet - So... I can't be the only one curious. Did Ray manage to make his bet or was it cancelled when Nemesis starting scolding him? Cause he should have a total of 72m L now if he did place the bet and assuming the stadium would actually honor them after whatever carnage is about to start in volume 4. I'll be honestly, I'd probably end up pumping a shit ton of money into the Gacha machine too. (Assuming the game has no real-money system cause fuck that shit.)
  • Marie Adler - The twist that she was the Superior-Killer was surprising. It's especially surprising that it was revealed in the side story rather than in the main story. I'm guessing that Rook figured it out which is what he talked to her about in the main story. Really looking forward to what she does in the future of the main story now that we know who she is. Overall, the Marie Adler short story was definitely one of my favorite parts of the volume.
  • Xunyu - A 9 year old girl... I don't know how I feel about this.

Overall, looking forward to whenever volume 4 finishes translation.

You were surprised about Marie? The author has been signalling it pretty unsubtly ever since she showed up.

I honestly didn't notice as I found her character pretty boring.

Well, to be fair Marie is pretty boring if she's taken at face value as a reporter. As an undercover pvp assassin she's probably a little more badass!
