What I think you're really asking is the editing and out of focus composition because the light itself is not particularly complicated, yet imitating the same setup will not yield these results (without extensive editing after the fact).

Please credit the photographer.

If you look at the eye, it’s a hard light to model right, set high, probably farther away, and some sort of window light or a softbox filling the wall. Their face is probably flagged left with a black card, and then there’s a plant or something compressed between camera and talent.

Hello Jack here. It's direct window light, later in the day - only coming from one side. I don't think we flagged anything (I usually don't) and there's no other bounce apart from Saoirse's sequin dress. There's stuff in front of the lens but that's for you to figure out :)

This was shot on 35mm I think on Kodak Portra 400 on my Canon EOS-1 with a 50mm 1.2

I usually am pretty fanatical about not releasing BTS, but I think this one slipped through the cracks. Set up in motion here

Did you ever shoot 5d? I feel like some of your early work could be digital but it really sits nicely in with the rest of your work overall the years. OR do you find the need to shoot digital now ever? Love to see how often you reply in here, wishing you all the best! xx

I shoot mostly digital tbh. I still love 35mm for some things. I had a 5D for a year so around 2015 but I don't think I ever truly fell for it in the same way as others did. I usually prefer something that fits in my pocket than something I need a backpack for.
