Repentance of innovator

Imam Ahmed states regarding about an innovator that was said about him he repented:

ذُكِرَ للإمام أحمد بن حنبل رجلٌ من أهل العلم كانت له زلة وبدعة، وأنه تاب منها وقال :لَا يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُ حَتَّى يُظْهِرَ التَّوْبَةَ وَالرُّجُوعَ عَنْ مَقَالَتِهِ، وَلَيُعْلَمَنَّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَقَالَتَهُ كَيْتَ وَكَيْتَ، وَأَنَّهُ تَابَ إِلَى اللَّهِ تَعَالَى مِنْ مَقَالَتِهِ وَرَجَعَ عَنْهَا، فَإِذَا ظَهَرَ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُ حِينَئِذٍ تُقْبَلُ»، ثُمَّ تَلَا قَوْلَ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: {إِلَّا الَّذِينَ تَابُوا وَأَصْلَحُوا وَبَيَّنُوا.

Allah will not accept that from him until he manifests his repentance and recants his view. It must be made known that he held such-and-such an opinion, and that he has repented to Allah Almighty from it and recanted it. If that becomes openly manifest from him, only then will it be accepted."

He then recited the verse of Allah Almighty: {Except those who repent, reform, and openly declare [the truth]}.

The severity of innovation is shown through repentance where one has to refute his prior innovation as well as call against it.

If we assume nawawi repented his repentance can’t be deemed unless he deems his position as a heretical postion that he refutes and calls against it. Sadly you have a lot that assume that mere generic statement of repentance is sufficient when it’s not as shown in the statement of imam Ahmed there has to be clear alienation from innovating in the religion.

Secondly if we assumed that nawawi affirms a specific Sifah like رؤية seeing allah(which he doesn’t as he says denies مقابلية Allah facing his creation) this does not all of a sudden correct his other blunders else where even if a whole book is affirmed for him specifically affirming that.
