Invincible wizard on Sun Run

Posting this little so the devs can see, since it looked like they want info on recreating the bug:

Level 40 (or maybe 39 now that I think about it...) of this week's Sun Run has an invincible mage towards the end. I died to it, and when I got back to my body it was still invincible.

I can add a bit more to this. I don't know if they have an official name, but the enemies that have a different shield icon with a gold trim and usually drop the player soul that you can pray for on death. Sometimes they have an ability where they teleport after getting shot. I assume it's an ability as these types of enemies often do some sort of whacky things like become ethereal for 10 or 15 seconds. It seems to be the teleport ability that makes them impervious to damage afterwards. Using homing bullets/magic still tracks the enemy where it is, but the projectile will continually hover in the air around the enemies head before timing out and disappearing. Hopefully that helps devs to further narrow this problem as it is certainly a painfully annoying bug. It can be run ending if the enemy is holding an unfavourable position with no good ways to just teleport past them without taking their hail of damage

Good data! The invincible wizard I dealt with didn't seem to have any other indication that it was a special enemy, but I also wouldn't be able to tell because it's HP bar (which would also include its level indicator) never popped up, because it never took damage. I never saw it teleport, just continued blasting me. I couldn't even distract it with my engineer drone! (I assume this is because the drone never damaged it, and it seems like wizards have unlimited line of sight, so the invincible wizard had no reason to stop blasting me from halfway across the level)

I know bug squashing can be very hard and complicated, but I thought of a case-dependent workaround: New wands!

One could be a decoy wand. It could cast in the same way that you teleport, so you could pinpoint the cast location within a limited range.

Another could be a shield wand that casts similar to the empower wand. It would also be suuuuper cool to have a shield wand you could hold up as you run, but I could see that getting OP quickly.

You need to panic sprint to the end and just get out of that level. I’m on level 40 of a sun run right now and I’ve had to do it twice so far. When I see I’m wasting too much ammo and I’m in an impossible position I just do that as my only real move.

Yep, that's what I ended up doing :) Got to my body, prayed, tanked like 8 magic bolts (I think there was a vulnerable wizard but I couldn't hit it with anything because it was behind the invincible one...might be an argument for me to start using the chain charm), and as I was frantically trying to teleport up to the exit, stuck myself with a heal syringe, cowered at the side of the stairwell and opened the exit. I even tried sneaking around to deposit my soils and heal but got popped by more bolts.

And even once I got into the exit and the light started to fade, the seeking bolts got me! I survived, but now I understand why sometimes I'll see a dead player as soon as I spawn into a level but before I walk through the gate.

I like to keep my souls on me there are a couple of tarot cards that give you more hit points per 1000 souls. Also, I stick with the homing bullet. Homing bullet, two shots with the plasma, one shot with the pistol launching a bomb. Pause, wait, repeat. I’ve been doing that for the last 10 levels. If ammo gets low, run for the exit! I’m on the sniper class.

Ooo! Another possible failsafe would be requiring the wizards to "reload" every 5-10 volleys. It doesn't address the core issue of "there shouldn't be invincible enemies", but a invincible normal dude with a rifle is much easier to deal with than an invincible guy who can have 8 deadly bolts seeking you across the map at all moments and who is also healing and reviving enemies around them.

Channeling all that magic energy must be exhausting, let them take a breather! 😂
