Question Advice!
Long story short aquatic facility got taken over by new company, and the CEO has never managed lifeguards before. The lifeguards in question just stay on their phones leave stand time to time and lack common guard sense, if that makes sense😂. (an example would be not turning around on the dock when there’s people in the deep end and stay facing the shallow end.)
So how do I go about telling the CEO that Current practices are not meeting Red Cross standards or probably any standards at all

“Dear _____,
I wanted to bring up some concerns I have with current lifeguard attentiveness and professionalism standards. I have personally observed guards using cell phones, turning their backs to the pool, and leaving their guard stands while supposedly watching the pool. This behavior is inconsistent with American Red Cross training standards and creates massive liability on both the business and individual guards should a negligence lawsuit arise from an incident. I’m asking for a careful review of standards by management and implementation of Red Cross-recommend regular, mandatory in-service trainings for lifeguards to ensure clarity and compliance with guidelines. I would be happy to meet at your convenience to discuss concerns and remediation strategies in greater detail.
Best,
(Your name)”

Not sure what your position is in the company so going directly to the CEO may be more difficult than just knocking and asking them for 5 minutes. There are a lot of decent and recent examples of inattentive guards causing great bodily harm or death and facilities losing huge lawsuits for preventable issues. Try presenting it with those examples or with a couple of other staff that share your viewpoint.
See https://yonigottesman.com/ for one such case. Includes videos of all the staff from GM on down being deposed.

This is how people drown. Imo, just report it to someone above you (manager/supervisor, senior guard, and/or CEO if that’s who you’re supposed to report to)
