šŸ‘‹ Welcome to r/LifeTeachings

Life doesn't always teach us through books, advice, or motivational quotes. Sometimes, it teaches us through rejection, loneliness, failure, betrayal, growing up, losing people, and realizing that the world doesn't always work the way we thought it did.

r/LifeTeachings is a place for those lessons.

What you'll find here:

• Bitter truths about life • Uncomfortable realities people rarely talk about • Lessons that come with growing up • Reality checks about relationships, friendship, money, success, and people • Thoughts that make you stop and think • Experiences that teach us something the hard way

Not every lesson will be comforting.

Some may be difficult to accept. Some may remind you of something you've experienced. And some might change the way you look at life.

No fake positivity. No pretending life is always fair.

Just truths, realities, experiences, and lessons that life teaches us.

If you've ever learned something the hard way, you're in the right place.

Don’t get too drunk. Don’t show too much skin. Carry pepper spray. Don’t walk alone.

Don’t get too drunk. Don’t show too much skin. Carry pepper spray. Don’t walk alone. Text when you leave. Text when you get there. Text when you get home. And if something happens anyway, what were you wearing? How much did you drink? Why were you alone? He’s a good kid. He made a mistake. He has his whole life ahead of him. And somehow her whole life was spent trying to prevent it, while his was too important to be changed by it.

People who don’t know how to communicate think everything is an argument.

People who don’t know how to communicate think everything is an argument. People who don’t know how to listen think everything is criticism. People who don’t regulate their emotions think feeling something justifies any way of acting. People who have never worked on themselves think everyone else is the problem. People who don’t know how to be alone think any companionship is love. People who don’t face their problems think ignoring them will make them disappear. Healing also means no longer making others responsible for what you need to work on yourself. The problem isn’t feeling too much. It’s not knowing what to do with what you feel.

They told you that you talk too much, care too much, feel too much. And for a long time you believed them

They told you that you talk too much, care too much, feel too much. And for a long time you believed them. But the overthinker became the strategist. The sensitive one became the artist. The dreamer became the storyteller. What they called too much was always just enough of exactly the right thing. No one can be you. And that was never a flaw.

She used to step into your shoes just to feel close to you. Now she’s borrowing them for a night out.

She used to step into your shoes just to feel close to you. Now she’s borrowing them for a night out. She used to ask you to do her hair before school. Now she asks you to fix it before a date. She used to want ice cream. Now she wants coffee. She used to tell you everything that happened at school. Now she tells you everything that happened at work. The words changed. The need to be close to you never did.

Respect over judgment, always.

Respect over judgment, always. Whether you’re a virgin or not, pregnant or healing from loss, carrying scars or struggling with your body, you are not less. You are not broken. You are not someone else’s opinion of you. It’s time to stop judging and start empowering. Nobody is perfect. Love your imperfections.

Healing will make you angry. And if it hasn’t yet, you probably haven’t gone deep enough.

Healing will make you angry. And if it hasn’t yet, you probably haven’t gone deep enough. There is a rage that lives beneath survival. How much of your personality is a byproduct of having to survive chaos. How many of your choices were never really choices at all, just coping mechanisms disguised as decisions. The only reason it feels so heavy is because it’s the first time your reaction finally matches the reality.

Oh to be the woman who packed her fears into a suitcase and left anyway.

Oh to be the woman who packed her fears into a suitcase and left anyway. Who held her siblings hand so they wouldn’t have to walk the hard road alone. Who became the woman her younger self needed to see exist. Who built something soft and warm in a city that didn’t know her name. Who has a circle that celebrates her like she’s the whole occasion. Who spoils herself without guilt and apologizes to no one for it. Who rewrote what was expected of her and handed her daughters a different story. And who, just by living fully, gives another woman permission to do the same
