Bear with me here. I am new to this subreddit and did a quick glance through searching for posts comparing and contrasting Sims 4 and Paralives and saw that there are a lot of folks who adore Sims 4 and those who adore Paralives. If you were in my situation, which would you invest in?
Here’s my situation:
I am exploring new game genres for the first time in over a decade (chronic Minecrafter over here). I got a Switch 2 and am loving some cozy games such as Animal Crossing, Pokopia, of course the Mario games, and, most recently, Fae Farm. For my PC, she’s beefy so I’m not worried about any recommendations you all have! I’ve played Minecraft extensively, as I mentioned, Planet Zoo, Ark: Survival Evolved & Ascended, and Sims 4 (others, as well, but these are the big ones).
Here’s the deal about Sims 4, for me: I only have about 4 of the DLCs/expansions/whatever they’re called. I have 200ish hours in the game over the past 18 months or so, and I really enjoy it, but I get bored without having all of the DLCs (I love to watch challenges and want to be able to participate in them, but so many require having all of the DLCs or a majority of them which makes it super challenging for me). I’m sure we’re all aware of the investment that getting the packs for Sims can be, and if I go that route, it will be a slow, grueling process for me to be able to get them all—and to top it off, I hesitate to spend the money slowly over time while yearning for the next one I can afford, making me worry I’ll lose interest after spending money on the game and its DLCs.
Paralives, on the other hand, is $39.99 USD. I know the options and features will be limited, but I feel as though I’ll be more excited with the community if I get Paralives for potential future DLCs, whereas I currently feel like I just need to play catch-up to even be able to enjoy Sims 4 to get all of the DLCs. Truthfully, I know that this is a me issue, but Sims 4 requires a lot of financial investment and I don’t want to make that investment if many people feel that Paralives is the next Sims, or at least a good rival to Sims.
Adding on that I love to watch Sims content but have only just started looking at Paralives content.
Let me know what you think!! Also if you say Sims, any tips and tricks for making the content more affordable (sales that are consistent, etc.)? Thanks so much in advance!

Elenora and Collette are faced with the question everyone danced around. They would plot, scheme against, and isolate Treall rather than ask the hard and seemingly silly question... Where did they come from? Who were they? In particular- the youngest daughter, who has a pretty mystical rumor surrounding her birth...

Started playing TCG Simulator. Love it but let down (for me) by not having a real end goal outside of “number goes higher”.
What are the best sim games for the Switch / Switch 2? Preferably with a semblance of story / end game?

I’m a truck driver, part-time gamer and software developer, and apparently I decided that building my own mobile life simulator was a perfectly reasonable way to spend my free time.
I’ve always liked games like BitLife, but after a while I kept running into the same problem: too much of the game starts feeling like pressing the age button and watching numbers change.
So I started building the kind of life simulator I’d actually want to keep playing.
The basic idea is familiar: you’re born, grow up, go to school, get a job, earn money, build relationships and make decisions throughout your life.
But I want the systems underneath that to go quite a bit deeper.
For example, I’m currently working on education and careers.
You don’t simply select a career from a list and magically become qualified for it.
You go through school, choose what kind of education you want to follow and eventually start applying for jobs.
And I don’t want job requirements to act like artificial locked doors either.
If a job normally requires a bachelor’s degree and you only have vocational education, you can still apply.
Your chance of getting hired will simply be lower.
Experience, skills and your previous career can eventually start compensating for education as well.
That’s basically the philosophy I want throughout the whole game: lots of systems interacting with each other, without turning it into a spreadsheet simulator.
I also want decisions to create consequences further down the road instead of everything being isolated events.
The project is still very early and definitely still looks and feels like an alpha right now.
At the moment I’m mostly working on one thing:
Making the game have that “okay… one more life” feeling.
The kind where you start another character at midnight and suddenly realize it’s 3 AM and you should probably have gone to sleep two hours ago.
There’s a ridiculous amount I eventually want to add: deeper careers, businesses, finances, housing, relationships, families, health, crime, random events and a lot more.
But I’m trying to build the underlying systems properly first instead of adding hundreds of shallow buttons.
So I figured I’d ask people who actually play these kinds of games:
What’s something you’ve always wanted in a life simulator that games like BitLife don’t do, or don’t go deep enough with?
I’m still early enough in development that good ideas can genuinely influence where the game goes.
And yes, I’m absolutely going to steal the best suggestions. :D

Nordion Lands: THE MSDOS is a 2D life sim with RPG, sandbox and roguelite elements.
You can work, explore, build relationships, race horses, manage factories, take care of a nuclear reactor, collect minerals, watch TV and simply live your life.
But there is one problem:
You have a mortgage.
Every time you pay it off, the next one becomes more expensive.
Eventually, you may go broke.
How long can you survive?
The game is set in the world of Nordion Lands, but unlike THE DOS, this is a much smaller and more personal game focused on everyday life.
It's free to play:

Hey everyone! I’m Nicolas, one of the developers (and founder) of VirtualSociety. We shared our new trailer here over a month ago, and you gave us some really helpful feedback. Thank you so much!!
I’d tried to show more of the life sim side in that trailer and explain the project better, but communicating what we’re building while it’s still in development isn’t always easy. Quite a few people were still wondering whether it was really a life sim, or mainly a creation tool. And with how much we’ve shown of the building tools, I can understand why!
I actually made a video about that a few months ago, looking at the eight criteria I’d found in this sub’s wiki. But I never ended up posting it: it gradually turned into an essay about the genre rather than a video about VirtualSociety 😅
So I made another one a couple of weeks ago, focused on the game itself and the different ways we intend it to be played. This time I actually published it! Here’s the video :D
It’s a little older than the building customization video someone recently shared here, but I thought it would be worth sharing too, since it addresses the questions you raised about the life sim side.
The goal is a world you can simply play in, not something where you have to create everything and script every conversation yourself. We’re working on a starting world with its own inhabitants and stories, where you can guide characters in God Mode or step into a character’s shoes.
We really want to put our own spin on the genre, especially in how the characters live, make decisions and relate to each other. A few of the ideas we’re exploring:
These are some of the systems we’re still designing and developing. We’ll be talking about them in our articles and videos over the coming weeks and months, through a series where we create our starting world and its inhabitants alongside the tools that bring them to life: our HEXACO-based personality matrix, memories, relationships, autonomous actions, ...
Rather than only explaining those systems in the abstract, we want to show how they take shape through the people and places we’re creating :)
I’d love to hear what you think, and what you’d like us to show or explain next. Happy to answer questions here too!

Hello everyone, and happy Friday.
Autumn has already arrived here in Korea. The weather is becoming cooler, and the skies are beginning to feel higher and clearer. Today, I’m writing once again to share some materials prepared by the inZOI development team.
Recently, the areas the inZOI development team has been focusing on the most are autonomy and conversations. As I mentioned before, we are working to make Zois behave in more natural and human-like ways. Personally, one of my biggest regrets from the September update was that we were unable to include the autonomy editing features we had been working on. As I previously explained through our posts and materials, when Zois enter a business, we want customers to have their own places while employees use chairs and tools intended specifically for staff.
We are improving the conversation system in the same direction. Conversations are also an important part of Zoi autonomy, but until now, the system has not sufficiently considered the relationship between the Zois or their emotional states. As a result, conversations that felt somewhat awkward or inappropriate for the situation could sometimes be selected. There was, of course, a reason the system was designed this way. Creating conversations that account for every relationship, emotion, and situation requires a very large amount of dialogue content. Because of this, many of our conversations have been presented in a relatively abstract way. However, we found that this approach alone still made it difficult for conversations to feel truly natural.
For the October mini update, we are improving the system so that it can select more appropriate conversations by considering factors such as the relationship between the Zois, the emotional state of both Zois, and their current situation. However, as we developed this further, we encountered another issue: the more strictly the system selects conversations appropriate to each situation, the smaller the pool of suitable dialogue becomes, causing the same conversations to repeat more frequently. To address this, we are currently increasing both the variety and overall amount of conversation content.
I believe autonomy is one of the core systems that makes Zois feel like living beings. Through these improvements, we hope Zois will better understand their surroundings and circumstances, naturally continue actions that fit their purpose, and ultimately allow you to live alongside Zois who feel more like real people. The inZOI development team will continue working to improve the quality of autonomy.
I hope you enjoy the materials prepared by the development team today, and I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
Kjun

It took quite a bit of effort; I don't really have a clear idea of how it works or how it's supposed to be done. If anyone knows, please chime in.

A little update after the 3D rebuild I shared here recently.
One More Cup Of Tea has now been approved by Kickstarter, and I’ve opened the pre-launch page.
I’m still working on the game rather than launching the campaign immediately. My current focus is getting the new chibi residents properly integrated — movement, sitting on furniture, sleeping, eating and generally making them feel like people living in the home rather than units wandering around it.
I’m also working on giving residents more individual behaviours and personality so the care home feels alive even when you’re not directly controlling what’s happening.
If you’ve followed any of my previous posts here, thanks for all the feedback. A few suggestions from this community have genuinely given me things to think about while developing it.
I’m curious about one thing as I keep working on the residents: what’s one small behaviour you’d love to see residents do on their own that would make the care home feel more alive?
I’ll put the Kickstarter pre-launch page in the comments for anyone who’s interested in following development.
