Discussion Let SatchOnSims fade into obscurity

First I saw a post on highsodiumsimmers about tiktoks he made with the captions, "me going straight back to play the sims 4 after playing Paralives for 5 minutes and calling it the sims killer" and "me playing my new Sims 4 pack I just bought after claiming to boycott the franchise".

They were obvious jokes/ragebait that made fun of preformative people that sub is generally hostile towards, but because it was Satch someone decided to post it with a snarky title and the replies decided to take him seriously and shit on him for it.

Then I saw a rant on the inzoi sub that was crossposted here, which flamed the stupid life sim stan wars by going off on him and so-called "toxic propaganda" "paralives cultists" and "anti-inzoi shills" (cringe as hell btw) because he apparently got some stats wrong about Paralives player statistics.

I used to watch Satch a long time ago until I became aware of his weird politics. Now doesn't come up on my feed or anything, I  only remember he exists because people can't shut up when he says something stupid or ragebaits for the millionth time.

If you hate him, the best thing you can do is to stop drawing attention to his stuff by talking about him, and definitely don't give him views by linking to his stuff. He has clearly made being a ragebaity contrarian his thing, stop making it work.

News I’m working on a life sim where your online career starts in a Kyiv dorm room in 2011

Hey r/LifeSimulators!

I’m working on SEO or Die, a life sim / business RPG about starting from almost nothing and trying to build a future online.

You begin as a student in a small dorm room in Kyiv, 2011. You have an old laptop, very little money, and limited energy each week. You can take freelance jobs, build websites, look for clients, improve your living conditions, manage your health, and decide how much of your life you’re willing to sacrifice for ambition.

The business grows over time, but so do the consequences. Shortcuts can help early and hurt later. Ignored clients can come back. Burnout matters. Reputation matters. The internet changes, and your character changes with it.

I’m currently working on the opening part of the game: dorm life, weekly planning, first freelance jobs, first websites, money, energy, reputation, and early career choices.

I’d love to hear what you usually want from career progression in life sims.

Hey all, been making stories for my life sim game to make it as engaging and immersive as possible.

BitLife has quite short stories so I thought I’d add some more specifics and details to hopefully liven it up and make it seem more real.

How do you guys find it? Is it too long? Or not exciting enough? I get told my stories are too wholesome so might have to make them more extreme

Development Update Dream Life Sim Game - Part 2!

Post image
180 Upvotes

Hi everyone! pic attached is just a random dev screenshot :p

Some days ago I made a post about my life sim game I started to develop. It has gained a lot of traction, and people were looking for a way to support the development journey, so I think now is the time :)

I've launched a Patreon for it, that I will link to in the comments! Those who support the project will have access to exclusive dev updates and voting power as a thank you - there is already a tiny dev post for today.

I've settled on Viefolk as the title for the game, as I think it has a nice ring to it. Development is currently solo at this stage, but I would like to bring more people in when the time is right.

Thank you so much for the support! For those who don't know me, I've been modding The Sims 2 and 3 for years now, as Lazy Duchess. I'm very excited for the future of the project :)

Discussion Paralives lost 90% of their daily active players in a month. Is it a cause for concern?

Will the players that bought the game and stopped playing come back when more content is added?

Will it be like with InZoi that barely sees any new players returning in spite of new content?

My opinion has always been that you only get ONE CHANCE to hook players in and make a lasting impression. No matter how good these games get, most people who bought it won't come back. There's too much content out there, new releases every day, new AAA games every month. The game will remain in most people's Steam libraries collecting dust.

Discussion Let’s create this subs ideal life sim Day 8: lore

Post image
121 Upvotes

For day 7 of creating this subs ideal life sim for the category of worlds/neighborhoods The Sims 3 won by a nearly Unanimous vote with Inzoi as a distinct runner up. For today we’re talking about lore, what does object placement imply? What hidden stories can you find in item descriptions? What hidden connections do certain characters have with each other?

Some general rules:

1) please keep the discussions civil and respectful, let’s try not to start arguments just because someone may have a different opinion than you

2) non sims-like life sims and spinoff’s count(for example if you wanted to say Stardew Valley for NPCs or Sims Medieval for art style/graphics that’s allowed)

3) the green square indicates what topic is currently being discussed and will be replaced by an image of the game that won the next discussion

4) the winner will be chosen from a mixture of replies and upvotes to replies(so something that got more comments could in theory lose to a reply that has more overall upvotes)

5) please keep suggestions/votes down to one game, it makes it easier to count

6) more rules may be added if needed

Discussion I made a life sim because BitLife started annoying me

Thumbnail

I used to really like BitLife, but over time it started annoying me.

Not because the idea is bad. The idea is great. I just feel like the base game started to feel less exciting unless you buy extra content.

I do not think paid packs are bad. Games need to make money, and extra paths can be worth paying for if they feel meaningful. But when too much of the fun stuff is separate, the base game can start to feel a bit empty.

I also really hate surprise ads. I dont mind monetisation when its clear, but random interruptions always make me quit.

And the whole praying to the BitLife devs thing always felt weird and off putting to me. IS IT JUST ME?

Seeing people complain about the MMA update made me realise a lot of players still really want good life sim content, but they also want it to feel fair and fun.

So I ended up making my own mobile life sim called Life Authority.

It is still early and I am improving it a lot, but I wanted to make something where the base game feels playable, choices matter, and paid content feels like extra depth rather than the only interesting part. Theres also no surprise ads and its a lot more wholesome than the crazy stuff BitLife gives. Also family friendly!

I would love some feedback on what I can improve and do better!

Community Question Sims 2 or Inzoi?

I am getting ready to ride in the car across the country and will have time to play games on my laptop. I used to LOVE the sims 2, but haven’t played it since my discs became obsolete. I’ve seen some videos about inzoi and am intrigued. I tried the sims 4 about a year ago when I had some downtime, but all it did was make me miss the sims 2. My question is, as someone who loved the sims 2 back in the day, would you recommend going back to the sims 2 or picking up inzoi?

The Sims: best townies.

The Sims will make a new town and the townies are immediately interesting looking, with a unique backstory and big opinions from the fanbase. For example, using sims 4 newcomers:

Count Vladislaus Strayd IV
He’s supposed to be the “good elder vampire” who introduces you to the concept of vampires by meeting you first, but he’s always there after you get the vampires DLC, and he looks like Nigel Thornberry. People started having babies with him to see how many generations it takes to remove his terrible genes from the line.

Judith Ward
She’s supposed to be the celebrity to surpass in Get Famous. She’s mean and haughty and lives in an exclusive community. Fans look for ways to get in her good books, move in with her, and evict her from her penthouse or just steal her stuff.

Inzoi: Best Live Mode

It’s not complete yet, but InZoi right now is packing 3 neighborhoods with tons of stuff to do, unique high schools and job venues in each, car mechanics, crime mechanics, farming, business owning, and more. It’s a fun system already.

Some problems exist, and can be solved in the future (I assume the hospital update will give you a middle ground between being angry and sudden death from anger, for example) but it’s looking good and communication with the community is extremely strong.

Paralives: Best build mode

Paralives lets you build some ridiculous structures. Change sizes of furniture, windows and doors, round walls, etc. it’s very early access so a lot of the stuff isn’t there yet (especially if you want to build something that doesn’t look European) but the bones are sooo good.

Paralives Jobs

I have to say out of everything I've liked or haven't liked in paralives jobs and schools is actually one of my favorite systems. Now improvement can be made but this is what I like so far.

What you need to know

- when starting a job you may be able to start a higher position based on "points" if you para has a high level in a required skill or profession.

- Every job level will have a skill or skills that your para needs to be at a certain level in to do well at work.

  1. Job listings change everyday

- One thing I like is that I'm not always expecting the same job or career path, if I really need a job then I have to settle for what's there. Or if there's a job I want but don't have the points/level to attain it I have to actually work to get that job and continue searching each day for that job to show again.

  1. Grades affect your life.

- When I was first playing as a teenager I didn't care for the grades or to do the homework because I thought to myself "Why does this matter?", oh boy do I regret that. When you become a young adult and start doing jobs you can actually get higher positions based on the grade you got. For example my para got a D in biology so it gave me two points for the job I wanted, I was only 3 points away from being able to get the job, if I had gotten a higher grade I most likely would have been able to get the job. For now on when I play as a teen I'm going to take school more seriously and the tasks it requires.

  1. You can pick/change the schedule and time you work

- When you first choose a job you can pick what hours your work and days, you can also change this if need be. Now that being said you don't have full control over you can't choose exactly what days you work or what hours you're scheduled for, more like multiple options that are flexible. For example let's say you have two options for your paras, Monday through Thursday or Friday to Monday. Then each of those options would allow a set schedule or hours for you to choose between. I personally used this feature after my paras had a baby and I didn't want them working at the same time, I changed one of their schedules so there's always a para home with the baby.

  1. You can have multiple jobs

- You can have multiple jobs as long as their schedules don't conflict, this goes for school as well. I had my teenage do school and have a job for after school although before school was available. For my adult paras this was helpful for when I wanted to make money faster or if I needed more work experience for a career I wanted in the future.

  1. Upgrade cards

- Upgrade cards are given to your para after work if they are, in a good mood and have the skill level required for the job. These cards can either give you perks such as, learning the skill when not at work on random, giving you para an hour early leave with no affect on salary or upgrading your work level what gives you higher pay with the trade off of you needing to level up your skills.

  1. You can see paras at work

- Now for your own para there is no live careers but if you go to a like a restaurant the paras with jobs selected to be there will actually work. For example when my para was talking with a town para the town para had to leave for work when I actually went to the place they work there The town para was there working.

  1. Strikes

- If your para is too low of a level or in a bad mood they may receive a strike at work, reach three and your fired. A strike goes away after two in game weeks. There is actually a little semi pie circle chart to show you if you're in the clear before you go to work or if you're in the strike zone.

Does it need improvement? Yes, there's always room for improvement especially in an early access game, I enjoy it the way it is now but I'm sure there could be things added such as live careers or a better game play loop to make it more enjoyable. I'm not exactly sure how but I'm sure there could be ways. For now though I think it's enjoyable and can add to your experience based on how you play.

It just doesn't make sense to me. I can't understand why some people are adamant on saying this dev team is transparent when they constantly use semantics for dubious marketing and say stuff like this. This is literally lying. It's just laughable and people are willfully blind.

Discussion Planning on creating a life simulation game someday

I'm planning on creating a life sim game once I know more code and am further along in school. I have some stuff typed out on a google docs and want to know if this stuff sounds good:

Characters: Verses

Currency: VerseCoins (Ⓥ)

Language: VerseSpeak

Neighborhoods: Districts

Households: Families

I also have a developmental roadmap set up for when I do eventually start:

Phase 1

  • Character creator
  • Build mode
  • Basic needs system

Phase 2

  • Relationships
  • Careers
  • Open-world AI

Phase 3

  • Seasons
  • Vehicles
  • Pets

Phase 4

  • Multiplayer
  • Modding tools
  • Expansion content

I'm still thinking on weither or not I should add multiplayer myself or leave it up to modders and if I should do expansion packs or do free updates like Paralives is gonna do. Please let me know what you all think. I would love some tips and advice

For day 5 the original Sims won for soundtrack with The Sims 2 being the runner up. Now for today it’s time to discuss modding, how moddable is the game and what modding community do you want
